Hyundai IONIQ 5 N

When Hyundai's high-performance N division said they would brace electrification, they really meant it, shocking the entire world by storm. After years of waiting since the launch of IONIQ 5, the first-ever electrified N car has arrived and it's time to get too jealous about it.

Welcome to the Hyundai IONIQ 5 N, the high-performance version of the award-winning IONIQ 5 electric crossover that signals the start of N's electrified route, like it or not. It costs 76,000,000 Korean Won plus additional costs and from every angle, this commoner's EV gets Physical. Physical: N, of course.

Although it looks vaguely similar to the normal IONIQ 5, this beefed-up version features signature N elements, a sporty exterior design, an N Steering Wheel with N-specific functions, and a specific center console with race-specific features fit for your track day use in Inje, among many others. It's hard to say if the IONIQ 5 N is a classified sleeper car because it looks pretty much like the normal one but...who knows. It's going to be a long day.

Armed with an 84kWh Li-ion battery pack and two electric motors powering the front and rear wheels, making it a punchy 4WD prized fighter, the IONIQ 5 N produces a default 609PS of power and 740Nm of torque, more powerful than the Kia EV6 GT. However, with the N Grin Boost engaged for ten seconds, the power gets bumped to 650PS, and with N Launch Control in play, it's capable of a 0-100kph time of 3.4 seconds and a top speed of 260kph, faster than a luxury German saloon. As for the driving range, it's good for 351km on one full charge.

Just like the normal IONIQ 5, it supports V2L capability, meaning you can use some of its juice to charge your phones, your laptop, heck, you can even plug in your TV sets and binge-watch some K-dramas while in the middle of a tailgating party with your pals.

Being a 4WD electric street fighter, the IONIQ 5 N is armed with an e-LSD at the rear axle as well as N Torque Distribution with 11 levels of adjustment and by surprise, an N Drift Optimiser. Although it feels bulky to drive as expected for an electric car, its N characteristics made it damn-straight addictive everywhere. You can really forget about your thoughts while trying to wrestle this car like a Ssireum match.

Although controversial, the IONIQ 5 N features numerous gimmicks such as the N e-shift system where a virtual 8-speed DCT comes out for the play and with the manual mode set, it shifts like you were in a video game, and the ultra-flashy N Active Sound+ where two external speakers and eight internal speakers can imitate engine noises including the jet-inspired Supersonic sound effect.

Like the normal IONIQ 5, the N features a host of safety features such as Remote Smart Parking Assist, Surround View Monitor, and Hyundai SmartSense, among many others.

So, what can I say about the IONIQ 5 N? While the virtual gear shifting and the virtual sound effects are flashy enough to be taunted by speedo boys as a poser machine, not to mention the quirky and bulky handling feel that feels like you're in a Ssireum match, the IONIQ 5 N is one of the many reasons that electric cars are getting manly and dangerous at the same time. Mixing subtlety and obviousness is one thing but with the IONIQ 5 N, we're experiencing burning jealousy right now, wishing we wanted to drive one someday.

Toyota Century (SUV) GRG75

Since 1967, the Century has been the pinnacle of the Toyota heritage as it was made in honor of the centennial birth of its founder, Sakichi Toyoda. For over five-and-a-half decades and three generations of the flagship saloon, the Century ultimately represents Japanese culture from the halfway point of the Showa era to the dark ages of the Reiwa era. A new era demands a new kind of Century.

In addition to the flagship saloon, Toyota launched the crossover spin-off of the Century lineage, turning the Century marque into a sub-brand under Toyota's wing. The Mark of Suzaku continues to shine now with two wings beyond the skies.

Starting at 25,000,000 Japanese Yen (about 250,000 US Dollars) plus additional costs, the SUV version of the Toyota Century is considered the least costly alternative to its main rival, the Rolls-Royce Cullinan but because this is nearly five times the price of the Land Cruiser 300, the SUV version of the Century has unanimously dethroned the Land Cruiser as the flagship SUV of Toyota but don't count on it just yet because while the Land Cruiser is known for taking on the beaten path, the SUV version of the Century is made to cater the most prolific VIPs, especially Japanese politicians, with its legendary comfort and luxury inherited from its sedan counterpart.

While the styling is heavily mistaken for the Cullinan, the familiar Century elements are implemented including its signature phoenix badge at the front. Because the SUV version of the Century is genuinely bespoke, clients can personalize it any way they want as well as choose their own doors, either traditional or sliding doors. Yes, really. Such bespoke personalizations are possible at select Toyota dealerships that are certified "Century Meister".

Checking the handcrafted interior, Toyota wasted none of its precious time and resources tailoring the insides from top to bottom until it reached its desired client wishing it was his or her kind of Century before setting off. Onto the driver's side, the functionality works like today's Toyota Crown, meaning it has a 12.3-inch TFT instrumental panel, a Display Audio Plus with smartphone connectivity, heated steering wheel, HUD, digital rearview mirror, wireless charging port, USB-C ports, and others.

The passenger side is where the out-on-a-limo experience comes into fruition as the VIP can take advantage of its ultra-luxurious features, including the world premiere of the rear full-flat mode exclusively on the Century SUV, letting the crocodiles sleep while their drivers are driving them back to their fancy mansions. Long day, isn't it. And that's not all, with the special devices mounted on the rear seats as well as the rear entertainment system and other ultra-luxurious goodies, including a mini-refrigerator to cool their drinks, this is a first-class crossover fit for high-rollers and right-wing politicians alike.

Space-wise, the SUV version of the Century is good for up to 340 liters of boot space, making it good for dealing with nearly all walks of life the rich and powerful can't get enough of.

Unlike its sedan counterpart which is basically a glorified version of the previous-generation Lexus LS, the SUV version runs on the same GA-K platform as the Crown crossover, and because comfort is the strength of the Century, it's been given comfort-oriented dynamics to make it smooth sailing. Although not as good as the Cullinan, it's more than enough to deliver the out-on-a-limo experience the big bosses can't get enough of. It also comes with spring damping control, NAVI-AI-AVS, and DRS (no, not the F1 kind of DRS). The DRS suppresses sudden changes in vehicle behavior by enabling seamless and natural handling by controlling the direction of the rear wheels in the opposite direction (out-of-phase) or the same direction (in-phase) as the front wheels, depending on vehicle speed, and reduces the minimum turning radius at low speeds (5.5m). Good enough.

Thanks to its 4WD system, the Century SUV is a decent all-rounder on and off the road, be it tarmac, gravel, or even snow. Not as good as a Land Cruiser but it's still cozy enough for a long drive to Hokkaido on a Sunday morning, going fishing.

Speaking of comfort, the SUV version of the Century runs on a PHEV powertrain where the 262PS 3.5L V6 engine is bolted to two electric motors and a Li-ion battery, not to mention it was mated to a CVT gearbox. It delivers 14.2km/L of combined fuel economy based on WLTC Mode standards and while running on electric power alone, it's good for up to 69km of driving range.

The SUV version of the Century is prepared with Toyota Safety Sense featuring a Pre-Crash Safety system, Lane Departure Alert, Radar Cruise Control, Adaptive High-beam System, Blind Spot Monitor, Parking Support Alert, and many others. It even comes with Toyota Teammate Advanced Park as well as other safety features.

In terms of safety, the Century features Toyota Safety Sense and Toyota Teammate Advanced Park among other safety features offered on this ultra-luxury crossover.

The new body type of the Toyota Century may be deemed controversial but with the SUV version joining alongside the existing sedan type, the Mark of Suzaku continues to shine now with two wings beyond the skies. The Century lineage is now a class on its own and this time, they are the ones that rose to the top of the Toyota hierarchy. Welcome to the new world order.

Chevrolet Corvette C8 E-Ray

To the eyes of purists, the Chevrolet Corvette C8 is treason to its heritage because of its mid-engine layout and to add more salt to the wounds, the first-ever hybrid Corvette comes to life. A fitting upset to the Corvette's seven-decade history.

Starting at an epically expensive 102,900 US Dollars plus additional costs, the first-ever Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray, in coupe and convertible forms, is by no means the biggest treason to the Corvette's seven-decade heritage because this is the first time a Corvette's been hybridized and the first to have AWD a la Honda NSX.

While the styling is more of a toned version of the Z06 while the interior works and feels just like most of the C8 Corvette lineup, the E-Ray's hybrid powertrain is the most controversial feature worth noting. The 6.2L LT2 V8 engine is mated to an electric drive unit, producing a total power output of 655HP. Although awfully close to the Z06, it's more powerful than the now-defunct Honda NSX, in Type S form. Unlike the NSX, the E-Ray is one gear short, 8 vs. 9.

Thanks to its electric drive unit, drivers can engage Stealth Mode to run on electric power only for up to four miles at 45mph. Handy if you want to quietly leave your home for a little night out at the pub with your friends. That's the element of surprise, the Corvette way. 

Because this is the first Corvette in history to have AWD, it has a 0-60mph time of 2.5 seconds and a quarter-mile time of 10.5 seconds. Whilst the added punching power, the AWD system made the Corvette E-Ray capable of going places that no supercars can't and thanks to its all-season tires, there's no need to wait for summer to let it loose in the wilderness. 

You can really take it to the track even when the weather has a gloomy outlook, although you may need to wait for another summer vacation to unleash its full potential when you have the ZER Performance Package which comes with high-performance Michelin® Pilot Sport 4 S ZP summer-only tires as well as chassis tuning and other performance enhancements. Bummer but not as bummer as the fact that most Corvette clubs actually ban the E-Ray for racing on track days due to fire concerns.

Yes, the Corvette E-Ray is no doubt the most controversial Corvette ever made because of its hybrid powertrain and all-wheel-drive but despite being a treason to the Corvette heritage, this is the ideal substitute for the now-defunct Honda NSX. In fact, jealousy is an out-of-issue for the Corvette E-Ray because this car is making its appearance in the new Forza Motorsport game and it's going to be as awesome as most supercars can get.

Love it or hate it, the Corvette E-Ray is ready to strike first and ask questions never. Be prepared to want one.

Hyundai Santa Fe MX5 vs Kia EV9

Box-shaped cars never go out of style even in the age of the new normal and Hyundai has decided to think outside the box with their all-new, fifth-generation Santa Fe which is now, you guessed it, a boxy crossover.

Starting at 35,460,000 Korean Won plus additional costs, the all-new Hyundai Santa Fe is no longer the Santa Fe that millennials remembered because it went through a radically different approach but it promises to behave like most crossovers should. So, what's it all about the Santa Fe MX5?

Ditching the sleek silhouettes of its predecessors, the Santa Fe MX5 features a boxy shape that can be awkwardly mistaken for either a Range Rover or a Ford Flex. Either way, Roblox jokes aside, it's not just limited to its cube looks because the headlamps, the front bumper, and the rear lamps are marked with the letter H because...it's Hyundai's kind of fetish.

If you had enough of staring at its Roblox-ish looks, take a look at the interior. Thanks to its squarish design, it's roomier compared to its TM predecessor although the dashboard feels like it's straight out of Grandeur because of the Grandeur-sourced steering wheel and the gear lever positioned behind it. It now boasts a long monitor where the first half is for the instrumental panel while the second half is for the touchscreen. Minimalism aside, there are knobs for the radio and the aircon, which are rather useful indeed. In expensive variants, you can wirelessly charge up to two smartphones just in case as well as the digital key feature where you will let your gadgets do the unlocking, the digital rearview mirror, and the rather controversial fingerprint authentication system.

Although it only has room for six to seven passengers, depending on the variant, the Santa Fe MX5 is roomier than its TM predecessor. Boot space is decent for a boxy SUV like this, making it more than enough to flex its daily conveniences as an all-rounder.

Believe it or not, the Santa Fe MX5 runs on the same bits and bobs as the Kia Sorento MQ4, meaning it behaves just like its compatriot. Although a lot different to drive compared to its predecessor, the HTRAC all-wheel-drive system with rough road driving modes made it capable through tarmac, gravel, and snow, good enough for a weekend picnic at Hannibal's. Dynamics aside, the available Alcon monobloc brakes deliver a dramatic braking feel unheard of in a Korean SUV.

Because the Santa Fe MX5 is built for the new normal, there is no diesel powertrain offered. Only a choice of a 1.6L turbo-hybrid powertrain with a total power output of 235PS mated to a 6-speed AT, and a powerful Smartstream G2.5T-GDi mated to an 8-speed AT, producing 281PS of power and a combined 10.1km/L of fuel economy. 

The Santa Fe MX5 marks the first time a Hyundai vehicle has a hybrid variant mated with the all-wheel-drive system. That's something that should have been done a long time ago.

Back to the new normal, the Santa Fe MX5 features an improved Hyundai SmartSense with Highway Driving Assist 2, navigation-based smart cruise control, blind spot collision avoidance assist, forward collision avoidance assist, rear parking collision avoidance assist, and Lane Keeping Assist 2. Coupled with the multiple anti-collision automatic braking systems, advanced rear passenger notification, reverse guiding lamp, and 10 airbags, it really is the safest Santa Fe ever made.

The fifth-generation Hyundai Santa Fe is no longer the Santa Fe that millennials remembered because of its Roblox-ish exterior design that intrigues insiders everywhere but with its spacious interior, turbocharged performance, HTRAC, and tech, it has progressed into utilitarian status. It truly is innovation in motion for the new model.

However, if you're unhappy about the Santa Fe MX5's squarish looks and because this is the new normal, here comes the more expensive alternative that makes the all-new Santa Fe look like Oxford, the Korean Lego of course.

This is the first-ever Kia EV9 electric full-size crossover SUV. With prices starting at 77,280,000 Korean Won plus additional costs, it is the most expensive in the Kia SUV lineup, although it's less expensive than the BMW iX3, a meager bargain of the season.

With styling that stays true to its concept car roots, the EV9 signals a new design approach for Kia recreational vehicles in the future, meaning the styling will heavily influence the fate of upcoming people movers from the said brand. Apart from its Mohave-sized proportions and the side view reminiscent of the Infiniti QX80, the EV9 has a surprising show-off feature when you switch the front lights on as the hidden parts lurking around the grille-less front view light up like a Rina-chan board. Get it?

Although the exterior design has some cyber vibes to it, the interior is all about first-class comfort in every way. On the driver's side, you will be greeted with the steering wheel emblem lighting, a column-type shift lever positioned behind the wheel, a panoramic wide display where the first half is for the instrumental panel while the second half is for the touchscreen, dual color ambient lighting, and the available Meridian Premium Sound System. The GT-Line variant adds digital side mirrors, a digital rearview mirror, and a hidden touch button on the console, among others.

Inside, the full-sized EV9 can accommodate six or seven passengers and has decent boot space not bad for a full-size electric SUV but the six-seater variant has a party piece no luxury people mover has, not even today's Toyota Alphard; swiveling second-row seats. When coupled with the Lounge Package, you get yourself a luxury cruiser fit for taking high-rollers from Seoul to Busan.

Speaking of Seoul to Busan, the electric powertrain is capable of up to 501km of range for rear-wheel-drive variants while 4WD variants, especially the GT-Line, are good for around 454km, but driving conditions can vary. Running on a 100kWh Li-ion battery pack and the Electric Global Modular platform, rear-wheel-drive variants produce 150kw of power while 4WD variants produce a powerful 283kw of power. That's 385PS to you and me.

Although the driving feel is nothing compared to the Mohave or today's Santa Fe mentioned above, the EV9, even in 4WD GT-Line guise, feels like driving a Toyota Alphard in different directions and because of its electric drivetrain, it's surprisingly quiet as well. It even packs a wide array of safety features such as high beam assist, Highway Driving Assist 2, navigation-based smart cruise control, Remote Smart Parking Assist 2, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Keeping Assist 2, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist, and Rear Parking Collision Avoidance Assist, among others.

Which would you go for? The Roblox-esque Hyundai Santa Fe MX5 or the heavyweight ultra-luxurious Kia EV9 with a front view that makes the Rina-chan board look like...Tobot Big Boss? It's an interesting question because even though they behave differently, they look futuristic in every way but in every way, it's hard to pick the definitive winner in this round of Unanswered Questions. Only time will tell.

MG MG4 XPOWER

The MG4 is proven to be a hit on British roads and because it's more fun and more affordable to own than the Nissan Leaf, it really is the biggest upset in the electric car market. Such upset prompted MG to create their first-ever electric hot hatch; the MG4 XPOWER.

Starting at 36,495 British Pounds plus additional costs, the first-ever MG4 XPOWER brings performance back to MG in the age of the new normal and such pricing means it's more affordable than the Civic Type R. It's the high-performance bargain of the decade.

At first glance, it looks and works just like a normal MG4 judging by its sharp-looking exterior design, 10.25-inch touch screen with smartphone connectivity, Rotary Gear Selector, wireless charging pad, heated front seats, and steering wheel, among many others. However, the only way to differentiate the XPOWER from the normal MG4 is the XPOWER badge behind as well as the 18" Cyclone alloy wheels with orange calipers, and the added Track Mode display on the touchscreen.

Unlike the normal MG4, which is rear-wheel-drive only, the MG4 XPOWER is the first MG car to be all-wheel-drive, meaning there should be an additional motor somewhere. Anyway, because of its AWD layout and the 64kWh battery, the power output got juiced up to produce 435PS of power output and 600Nm of torque. 

Because being the first MG car to have launch control, the MG4 XPOWER has a 0-60mph time of 3.7 seconds and a top speed of 124mph. You can kiss your Nissan Leaf NISMO goodbye with this one.

In terms of range, the MG4 XPOWER is good for 239 miles combined based on the WLTP scale and it takes up to 35 minutes to charge the batteries from 10% to 80% is 35 minutes when charged at the 150kW public rapid charger, the length of watching an episode of your favorite cartoon and some Hail Marys to spare. At home, it takes 5.1 hours to charge the batteries from 10% to 100%.

Of course, being AWD, the 1800kg kerb weight spells more weight compared to the normal MG4, meaning it feels somewhat mild and tangy to drive even on the track. Arm-breaking is such when you try to turn sharp and thanks to its sport-tuned brakes, it feels dramatic when you hit the brakes.

Like the normal MG4, the XPOWER is nothing short of safety features including the MG Pilot Advanced Driver Assistance System.

The MG4 XPOWER signals MG's return to the performance business and because of its pricing that's cheaper to own than the Civic Type R, the performance to devour the Leaf NISMO, and the AWD system unheard of for an MG car, this juiced up electric hatchback is ready for prime time.

Maserati GranTurismo (AM189)

The Maserati GranTurismo is all-new from the ground up and this is no longer the grand tourer millennials are familiar with because this is a different kind of GranTurismo you will be meeting on the road and you'll be expecting some burning jealousy upon seeing this.

Starting at an ultra-expensive 182,000 Euros plus additional costs, the all-new, second-generation, Maserati GranTurismo is the evolution of the definitive Italian grand tourer that is primed and ready to tackle through the new normal with its quintessential style and dramatic performance you can expect in a Maserati.

Starting with the design, the previous Pininfarina-styled shape is gone and replaced by an MC20-inspired one penned by Maserati themselves. Although it bears similarities to its predecessor, the new shape adds drama and valor to this grand tourer, giving observers a whole new meaning of passion at first sight. Bet no one's prepared for this encounter.

Inside, the new model is display overload behind the wheel because you will be greeted by not one, not two, but five displays such as the 12.2-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch satnav, 8.8-inch climate control touch panel, a heads-up display, and a digital clock that dramatically displays the Maserati logo when you start it up. 

Like the previous model, it's a 2+2 set up but you can only fit through the front because the rear seats are rather small, meaning you'll have to fit your poodle behind you as well as your designer handbags in case you couldn't find more room in the 310L boot capacity because of so much luxury goods stuffed.

At launch, the all-new GranTurismo is powered by a 3.0L twin-turbo Nettuno V6 engine derived from the MC20. In the Trofeo version, it produces 550hp of power and 650Nm of torque. With the 8-speed automatic gearbox and 4WD, a first for a Maserati grand tourer, it does 0-100kph in 3.5 seconds and flat out in 320kph, faster than the previous GranTurismo. 

If that wasn't enough, Maserati is preparing an all-electric Folgore model that packs 761PS of total power output through all four wheels and can last over 400km of driving range on one full charge. Silent but deadly, of course.

Despite being a 4WD grand tourer, the all-new GranTurismo is downright addictive behind the wheel because of its rear self-locking differential (mechanical in the Modena and electronic in the Trofeo) as well as sport-tuned dynamics underneath. It even features four driving modes with the last one being the most enjoyable of all; Corsa. Flip this car into Corsa mode and the all-new GranTurismo comes alive as a blown-out sportscar that can dance through the bends in a wild but formal kind of manner. The same goes for the Folgore variant.

Although controversial for Maserati fanatics, the all-new GranTurismo is fitted with a range of driver assistance features such as Maserati Active Driving Assist providing autonomous emergency braking, active lane assist, emergency lane keeping, Dynamic Road View, rear emergency braking, and a surround-view camera. Welcome to the new normal.

The all-new GranTurismo by Maserati rewrote the rules of what an Italian grand tourer should be and judging by its dramatic style, interior, performance, technology, not to mention the controversial electric variant that promises to be as fun as a Formula E racer. With such evolution, this is the GranTurismo the world deserves to be seen and it's something to aspire to. This is Maserati, reloaded.

Mercedes-AMG C63 S E Performance (W206)

The all-new Mercedes-AMG C63 range, which is based on the W206 Mercedes-Benz C-Class, signals the beginning of the era of the subtler AMG machines because the newest AMG machines are no longer the monster machines of the past because, being built for the new normal, they have sacrificed its monstrous selves for the sake of subtler, more powerful forms. In short, they're no longer as loud as they used to be.

Starting at an estimated 115K Euros plus additional costs, the all-new Mercedes-AMG C63 S E Performance, in sedan and estate forms, is no longer the C63 the world remembers because despite being a W206 C-Class on steroids, what's underneath is not what you call a treat because we live in the new normal and for this new model, electrification is a sin the new model has committed.

Although it looks similar to its lesser brother, the C43, with some minor alternations to its detailing to differentiate it from the lesser one, as well as the same C-Class interior that can be fitted with optional Performance Seats, the C63 S E Performance's powertrain is not a pleasant sight for speedo boys behind the wheel because, under the hood, the previous model's V8 engine has been thrown away sadly and replaced by the same 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine as the A45 but it's been added with the new electric drive unit, AMG High-Performance Battery, belt-driven starter-alternator, and electric exhaust-gas turbocharger, creating a P3 Hybrid layout that produces 680PS of power output and 1,020Nm of torque, more than the previous model it replaces.

Mated to an AMG Speedshift MCT 9G, the super saloon gone commando has a 0-100kph time of 3.4 seconds and with an optional extra, 280kph flat-out. 270kph if you're in the estate version.

Although the P3 Hybrid powertrain is deemed controversial for AMG fanatics, the C63 S E Performance drives like a sports car as expected. By playing around with the AMG Dynamic Select system with seven driving modes and a customizable Individual mode, you can experiment with various ways and means to get yourself addicted to this car. Running on Electric mode, it's good for up to 125kph of top speed while the Battery Hold mode keeps the battery state of charge constant. 

Plunging into Race mode, the C63 S E Performance is ready to unleash mayhem on the track. Taking advantage of its AMG Ride Control steel-spring suspension with Adaptive Damping System, three-stage variable steering, rear axle steering, ESP, and its AMG high-performance composite brake system, this 4WD executive car on steroids can dance despite the bulk of its PHEV powertrain. Although less noisy than its V8-powered predecessor, it can surely make a mess out of it.

While the PHEV powertrain is an absolute turn-off compared to the old V8-powered model, the all-new C63 S E Performance is like an upper-class sewer rodent pampered with style. Despite its quiet behavior, it can surely be an aggressive schizophrenic when the opportunity arises. The world's getting jealous about this high-performance PHEV super saloon right about now because, with such power despite its controversial powertrain, you can really kiss your ugly-looking BMW M3 goodbye.

Nissan GT-R (2024MY Minor Change)

The Nissan GT-R continues to age in its half-decade tenure but there's no sign of slowing things down even in the midst of the new normal as the 2024 model year showcased the peak of Japan's motoring superpower.

Priced at 13,750,000 Japanese Yen plus additional costs, the Nissan GT-R R35 has gained another minor change for the 2024 model year, and this latest minor change showcased the prime of its legendary tenure since its 2007 launch.

Beginning with the exterior design, the front view ditched the previous facelift's V-motion grille in favor of a much smaller front grille as well as a boxy air intake to give the latest facelift a sharper presence in its fit of peak. It also sports new foglamps that are shaped like the Arena logo, similar to the ones found on the current Toyota Noah and the Kia K8. At the back, it gained a revised rear bumper as well.

The interior is pretty much the same as the previous facelift so there's not much of a surprise behind the wheel.

The engine specs remained the same. In the normal GT-R, the VR38DETT 3.8L Twin Turbo V6 engine produces 570PS of power and 637Nm of torque while mated to a 6-speed double-clutch gearbox. Fuel economy is still 7.8km/L.

In what was known to be the "King of GT-Rs", the GT-R NISMO, meanwhile, the same engine, upgraded by NISMO, produces 600PS of power.

The dynamics have been slightly improved for the recent facelift with the normal GT-R features improved downforce, cooling, and drag reduction while the NISMO version benefits from its racy dynamics from its motorsport knowhow while gaining a new front LSD to improve its handling ability, not to mention the extensive use of carbon-fiber materials. 

The NISMO version gets even better with the Special Edition packed with a carbon fiber bonnet and 20-inch RAYS wheels to slightly enhance its dynamics. Either way, they're still standard-issue to drive on the road and track.

The Nissan GT-R has reached the peak of its tenure and with this latest minor change, it's a clear sign that says "It ain't over until it's really over". That's it and that's all. 

This is the big score and whether you're on the subtle GT-R or the obvious GT-R NISMO, this could be your last chance to wield Japan's motoring superpower in the midst of the new normal.

Toyota Alphard and Vellfire (H40W)

For over two decades, the Toyota Alphard served as the flagship of Toyota's minivan lineup and it has been a favorite for VIPs of the East. In its all-new form, the Alphard and its sporty equivalent, the Vellfire, are ready to tackle the new normal while doing what these minivans do best; the premium combination of style, luxury, practicality, and comfort fit for royalties.

The Toyota Alphard and Vellfire minivans are now on their H40W spec and because they're all-new from scratch, they are no longer the luxury minivans the Easterlies are familiar with. These minivans have turned pure alpha and they're ready to strut the road in style and comfort, no doubt.

Beginning with the styling, the all-new Alphard's front view features a mammoth T-shaped grille that can embarrass today's BMW designs and for the first time, the Alphard badging has been replaced by the Toyota logo on it, a move similar to today's Harrier and Noah. Do not worry, the Alphard emblem is now located on the side view packed with sharp-looking windows. As for the rearview, it can be somewhat reminiscent of last decade's Crown.

The Vellfire, meanwhile, features the same shape as the Alphard but with a front view that says "Honey, I grew the Roomy" and a rearview reminiscent of the Hyundai Grandeur TG, adding some dramatic flair to it, if you catch my drift.

Both the Alphard and the Vellfire are packed with an all-new interior which is slightly longer than the previous models while maintaining the same width and wheelbase as their predecessors. They're all offered as seven-seaters with ultra-luxurious second-row seats, a prized hallmark for these minivans.

On the driver's side, it features a 12.3-inch TFT color meter with a multi-information display, color HUD, a 14-inch sat-nav, a new digital rear-view mirror, and others. The passenger side, meanwhile, features a host of luxury amenities including Toyota firsts such as the super-long overhead console, power side sunshade for rear seats, universal steps positioned at the sliding doors for easy access, one-touch seesaw switch on the sliding doors, and the world's first 5:5 split two-position space-up seats where the third-row seats can be flipped up for extra space.

As expected, all variants have four-cylinder engines and no V6 in them. That's it and that's all. Speaking of which, in order to differentiate the Alphard and the Vellfire, the petrol variants have been specified for each minivan. 

The Alphard Z variant is powered by a 2.5L 2AR-FE engine that produces 182PS of power, and 235Nm of torque. Mated with the Super CVT-i, it has a fuel economy of up to 10.6km/l for FF variants.

The Vellfire Z Premier, meanwhile, is powered by the turbocharged 2.4L T24A-FTS engine that produces 279PS of power and 430Nm of torque. Mated to a Direct Shift-8AT, it has 10.3km/L of fuel economy for FF variants.

Both the hybrid variants of the Alphard and the Vellfire are powered by a 2.5L A25A-FXS petrol-hybrid powerplant bolted to an electric motor (two electric motors if you're on the e-Four variant), a nickel battery, and CVT. With this powertrain, fuel economy is up to 17.7km/L for FF variants while e-Four variants get up to 16.7km/L.

Running on the TNGA platform, front MacPherson struts, rear double wishbones, and ventilated disc brakes, both the all-new Alphard and the all-new Vellfire behave like luxury cars with their refined silence and comfort that can please VIPs from the hot seat. In addition, both are packed with Toyota Safety Sense and Toyota Teammate for safer driving and worry-free parking worth noticing. Don't ask your boss about these gizmos.

The Alphard starts at 5.4 million Japanese Yen while the Vellfire starts at 6.55 million Japanese Yen plus additional costs.

With the all-new Toyota Alphard and the all-new Toyota Vellfire making the rounds, high rollers of the Far East are ready to double down on these new versions because of the style, luxury, practicality, and comfort worth their trip, not to mention the tech involved. Because both minivans are powered by four-cylinder engines only with the Vellfire at the top of the pack with its turbocharged 4-pot, there's no idea how to explain these minivans to the boys and girls at Okada, Newport World Resorts, Solaire, City of Dreams, Hann, or whatever casino-resorts these minivans served.

KG Mobility Tivoli - 2024 minor change

Having been on the lineup for eight years running, the Tivoli lineup has received another minor change and things get a little interesting for KG Mobility's baby-SUV range.

The Tivoli and its longer Tivoli Air have received another minor change for the 2024 model year, keeping the entry-level SUV lineup from KG Mobility (formerly Ssangyong) ready for more when the opportunity arises.

The most noticeable change for this updated version is the front view and it now dons a styling similar to a Toyota PPV I can't mention here due to search query reasons. This new front view gives the Tivoli a sporty feel on the go and apart from that, a new set of wheels and a mildly revised rear view truly made a statement.

The interior is heavily revised for this latest facelift with the air vents positioned above the dashboard, a new climate control, a new 10.25-inch digital cluster, and a new touch screen with smartphone connectivity and INFOCONN service. While the dashboard layout's new, the comfort for five people and spacing still remains with the Air the most spacious of the Tivoli range.

Both the new Tivoli and the Tivoli Air remained the 1.5L GDi turbo engine mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission with the shorter one offered with the 1.6L petrol engine. Sticking to the turbo one, it produces 163PS of power and 26.5kg-m of torque. Fuel economy is good for a combined 12kmpl for FF models.

The shorter Tivoli is only offered with the optional 4WD system that allows this crossover to go everywhere when needed.

In terms of safety, both the new Tivoli and the new Tivoli Air are offered with a DeepControl suite of advanced safety features, seven airbags, 79% rigidity, an Electronic Stability Program, an Anti-Rollover Protection, a Brake Assist System, an Emergency Stop Signal, Hill Descent Control, and Hill Start Assist, among many others.

For a limited time, the Tivoli is priced at 22,090,000 Korean Won while the Tivoli Air is priced at 22,940,000 Korean Won plus taxes and fees.

The recently facelifted Tivoli range shows that they're still on the go for eight years running, like it or not. The improved looks and interior are a sign of things to come for the Tivoli range under the hands of KG Mobility. That's common sense to you.

Mercedes-AMG S63 E Performance (W223)

The all-new Mercedes-AMG S63 E Performance ushers to the age of the new normal because of the electrified performance inspired by the Mercedes-AMG GT63 E Performance, the king of AMG saloons. The unrivaled high-performance premium flagship sedan has gone to the dark side, literally.

With prices starting at nearly 210K euros plus additional costs, the Mercedes-AMG S63 E Performance is no longer the AMG flagship we're fond of because it has gone through the dark side of electrification, thank you New Normal. Anyway, what's it all about the new S63 E Performance?

For starters, it looks and feels like a normal S-Class judging by its looks, the massive touchscreen that adds irritation to speedo boys behind the wheel, the MBUX user interface, the long wheelbase, and tons of high-tech safety features loaded to it. Since this is the AMG model, the S63 features signature AMG elements on the exterior, carbon fiber panels on the dashboard, and a choice of two interior colors; Peak Performer and Luxurious Athlete, each with fine AMG stitching in the seats. With the AMG treatment in the bay, you can rest assured that this is a premium flagship sedan on steroids.

Under the hood, the S63 E Performance runs on the same plug-in hybrid setup as the GT63 E Performance; meaning you can expect the same 4.0L V8 BiTurbo engine bolted to a high-performance electric motor. However, it's been toned down to produce 802PS of power and 1430Nm of torque. Mated to a 9-speed SPEEDSHIFT MCT, it does 0-100kph in 3.3 seconds and has an electronically-limited top speed of 250kph. That's all.

Asked about fuel economy, it's good for 4.4L/100km combined based on the WLTP scale.

In terms of dynamics, the S63 E Performance is a challenging feat because of its titanic weight but once you get hooked with its AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive, AMG RIDE CONTROL+ suspension, rear-axle steering, and the AMG DYNAMIC SELECT, you'll find plenty of reasons to enjoy this monster saloon that doesn't sound monstrous but behaves like one spectacularly.

Although less powerful than the king of AMG saloons, the GT63 E Performance, the all-new S63 E Performance is what happens when you inject a gentleman's limousine with anabolic steroids and show off its beastly side, not in a furry kind of way but in a furious way. As the unrivaled high-performance flagship saloon no one dared to challenge, the all-new S63 surely knows who's in control and such power deserves respect because respect is everything with this.

Ferrari Purosangue

A long time ago, Ferrari said they will never ever make a family car because it would just spoil the looks. Sadly, with most of the world's greatest sports car makers granted an SUV such as the Porsche Cayenne, Lamborghini Urus, the Aston Martin DBX, and the Lotus Eletre, Ferrari surrendered to the SUV bandwagon and came up with this; the first-ever Purosangue.

Priced at the 400K euro mark plus additional costs, the Purosangue is what purists called a treason to the Ferrari heritage because this is the first time Ferrari made a family car with five doors but it's more than that because this is really the world's first Super-SUV ever made.

So, what makes the Purosangue the Super SUV that shocked the motoring world? Beginning with the exterior, the Purosangue is highly reminiscent of Toyota's Crown Sport crossover because of the SF90-inspired front lamps that Toyota blatantly copied from for their new-generation models. Although complicated, the sleek silhouette and classic Ferrari looks still matched rather well for a family car of this size.

While the inside works just like a Ferrari, it's still a four-seater just like the deceased Ferrari hatchbacks like the FF and the GTC4, meaning it still works like a recreational vehicle but because it has secret rear doors, getting to the rear seats is a breeze. As for the boot space, it's good for 473 liters only because the rear seats cannot be folded down sadly.

It may be too expensive to be used as a family car, but it appears the Purosangue works rather well for escorting high-profile personalities, especially A-list celebrities and right-wing politicians alike. This is VIP service, the Ferrari way.

VIP service aside, the Purosangue promises Ferrari-level performance in a crossover setting, and with that, it's armed with a 6.5L V12 engine that produces 725PS of power and 716Nm of torque. Mated to an 8-speed F1 gearbox, it has a 0-100kph time of 3.3 seconds and a top speed of 312 kph.

As an SUV developed with Ferrari's motorsport knowhow, the Purosangue is armed with independent four-wheel steering, ABS Evo 2.0, Ferrari Active Suspension Technology, advanced 4WD, and hill descent control for the first time in a Ferrari. Taking advantage of its bespoke platform and its dynamics, the Purosangue behaves like a Ferrari everywhere all at once and it's been given a thumbs up by today's Ferrari F1 drivers, especially Charles Leclerc.

Labeled as treason to the Ferrari heritage, the Purosangue is the V12-powered Super SUV that rocks the world over and despite being a family car, it's still the Ferrari known the world over and with such performance and dynamics unheard on a crossover, it's no doubt we're expressing burning jealousy over the Purosangue.

2nd Gen Mitsubishi eK Space (2024 facelift) and Delica Mini

The second-generation Mitsubishi eK Space has received a facelift to keep itself fresh and apart from that, its rugged sibling, the Delica Mini, joins the party, giving customers various ways and means to enjoy the traffic-friendly kei minivans Mitsubishi offered.

For the 2024 model year, the second-generation Mitsubishi eK Space is now updated with a heavily revised front view that is proven to be more stylish than its pre-facelifted model. The first-ever Delica Mini, meanwhile, is the rugged version of the eK Space that serves as the replacement for the now-axed eK X Space. With its rugged styling and the DELICA lettering etched on the front and back, the Delica Mini showcases its outdoorsy vibe fit for a quiet Sunday drive into the woods.

The interior looks pretty much the same as the pre-facelift model but it's got a new sat-nav offered as an available extra and that's pretty much about it. For more expensive models, you can expect some noticeable stuff you may find, well, noticeable, such as the back table at the back of the front seats, keyless entry, touch panel aircon, and others, not to mention the waterproof sheet fabric which is ideal when you accidentally spilled something. The Delica Mini inherits most of the interior features from the eK Space so you can expect the same stuff from it.

Either way, they are tall enough to let occupants stretch themselves on the inside and offer generous rear legroom and ample spacing fit for all kinds of stuff to do. Honest work.

Both the facelifted eK Space and the Delica Mini are equipped with the same BR06 three-cylinder DOHC 12V ECI engine bolted with a tiny electric motor and a CVT gearbox. Thanks to some slight improvements, the fuel economy is around 20.9kmpl based on WLTC Mode standards. The Delica Mini is offered exclusively with the turbocharged variant of the same engine producing 64PS of power output and 19.2kmpl of fuel economy.

In kei car tradition, both the eK Space and the Delica Mini are no sweat to drive thanks to their compact sizing, less complicated suspension setup, and available 4WD, not to mention a wide range of safety tech from e-Assist to MI-PILOT, making them true city class cars for everyday use.

The facelifted eK Space and the first-ever Delica Mini are now ready to take on the new normal for simple people looking to find new hobbies out of these kei minivans. Like it or not, these traffic-friendly kei minivans are ready to get the job done, no rush at all.

BMW XM

The BMW XM, the first BMW M original presentation since the legendary M1 supercar, is by no means one of the most controversial Bimmers ever made. Why? Cue the Unanswered Questions theme because it's time to investigate the most powerful BMW ever made.

Starting at a fancy-priced 178,000 Euros plus additional costs, the first-ever BMW XM is a BMW M original presentation made in honor of its five-decade history as the high-performance division of BMW. Sadly, due to its controversial looks, this is more than a rotten cherry at the top of the cake but who cares about putting something rotten at the top of something cool?

Inspired by the 2021 Concept XM, the first-ever BMW XM's design is more than enough to embarrass everybody at your next car meet or in a slice of lemon, it's more than enough to make everybody's ectoplasms come out in a state of shock. From its controversial front face that is more hideous than today's M3/M4, its gaudy gold plating, and its hulking crossover sizing, the XM is not the friendliest vehicle approaching from your rearview mirrors. If you see one, be ready for it because you can expect thrills and chills at first sight.

Apart from the frightening exterior design, the BMW XM's interior is fancy living on steroids because with so much leather and Alcantara stuffed into the cabin, it's like you got hit by a Cotton Spore three times, massively slowing you down. Behind the wheel, the XM is packed with HUD, M leather steering wheel, multifunction seats, and a rather dramatic BMW IconicSounds Electric curated by award-winning music scorer Hans Zimmer. In its sweet spot, it features M Lounge with two outer seats with deep recesses and 3D diamond quilting, an ambient lighting system, and a 20-speaker 1,500-watt Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System.

As an SUV, the XM can carry up to 572 liters of boot space with the rear seats present, and with the seats folded down, it can carry up to 1,820 liters in case something sensitive comes into play.

The BMW XM takes pride as the first original M vehicle to have a PHEV powertrain in it. With the combination of a 489PS 4.4L V8 Twin Turbo engine, a 145kW electric motor, and a 25.7 kWh li-ion battery, the XM produces a total power output of 653PS of power and 800Nm of torque, making it the most powerful M car ever built. Mated to an 8-speed M Steptronic AT with Drivelogic and M xDrive all-wheel drive, it has a 0-100kph time of 4.3 seconds, and with the optional M Driver's Package, it's good for 270kph, less than today's BMW X5 M Competiton with the said extra. Fuel economy is 1.5L/100km combined based on WLTP standards and while running on electricity alone, it's good for up to 88km. Touche.

If that wasn't enough, BMW will offer the ultimate version of the XM later this fall, dubbed Label Red. With 748PS of power output, the XM Label Red will sprint from 0-100kph in 3.8 seconds and has a top speed of 290kph. Brace for impact, speedo boys.

Because the XM is running on a bespoke platform, not bits and bobs from other BMW models, this hulking crossover has a special driving feel everywhere. Special aside, it feels rather mild and menacing even with the rear-biased M xDrive all-wheel drive juiced to the brim, not to mention the adaptive M suspension Professional, front double wishbones, five-link rear axle, Integral Active Steering (a first for an M vehicle), and M Sport braking system, among many others.

Whether on the road, track, tarmac, gravel, or snow (if you're into that), the BMW XM is all about making a statement for almost everyone behind the wheel, and in terms of safety, the XM is festooned with the Driving Assistance package as well as the optional Driving Assistant Professional and Parking Assistant Plus. Speedo boys may not like such features but who cares. As long as such driving assists work, it works. No explanations, brothers.

The first-ever BMW XM may have been the rotten cherry on the top of the cake because of its controversially frightening styling that is deemed to be unpleasant to the naked eye as well as its leather overload inside and the tech involved but coming in terms with its mild driving feel and the performance that makes a huge statement, the BMW XM is a real Force Majeure you don't want to mess with it.

 Love it or hate it, this leviathan is ready to make the great leap forward everywhere all at once.
