Chevrolet Spark (M400, US Spec) and Second Generation Chevrolet Cruze

Two new Chevrolets are ringing the new year with a boom on the compact car markets in their classes. On the compact side, the Chevrolet Spark has been given a much mild-mannered regeneration while the Chevrolet Cruze, in the compact midsize sedan stakes, got fully regenerated for the new generation. So, what lies ahead of these two?

2016 Chevrolet Spark
2016 Chevrolet Spark interior

Of course, you might think you are already familiar with the new generation Chevrolet Spark because South Korea already has one last year and you are already familiar by how it looks because as told, the design looks not very premium-ish for the new model. That's just half of the story because apart from its rather unpleasant looks for a compact car, the inside is worth questionable because with technology continue to evolve, the rather cheap but comfortable interior doesn't come with a CD player and instead, it comes with a standard touchscreen with the Chevrolet MyLink that now comes with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto compatibility. Apart from that, like all good Chevys, 4G LTE connectivity is standard as well. It's hard to think why things like these would evolve into something more smartphone-ish or maybe they're trying to adapt through the easy life just like us?

Here in the USA, the new Spark is powered by a bigger and more powerful 1.4L petrol engine mated with either a more enjoyable 5-speed manual gearbox or a more casual CVT. This engine produces 98P of power and 94lb-ft of torque, and whichever gearbox you're on, you can expect an EPA estimated fuel economy of 41MPG highway, which is rather impressive for a compact car of such size, although it remains irrelevant in American roads dominated by Focuses, Darts, and many others.

While this is a compact car for the city roads, it's not surprisingly half bad to handle although the compound crank rear suspensions doesn't feel as sophisticated as any European compacts do. It's ashamed why this new Spark is not offered in European roads, where in turn gets a more similar Vauxhall Viva or Opel Karl.

2016 Chevrolet Cruze
2016 Chevrolet Cruze interior

Okay, if the new Spark doesn't suit your taste as your first car if you recently got your driver's license, perhaps why not consider the all-new Chevrolet Cruze? Yep, the all-new model and while it doesn't look as pleasant as the previous model, at least it's not as dull as what the Chinese had. It's surprisingly bigger than the new model, more rakishly stylish, and more high-tech features than any other compact midsize saloons of its class, which really sets the competition apart.

On the inside, it still has the grim reality of having a touch-screen with added connectivity standard, meaning there is no place for your CD collection, which is very very sad why we are now living in the age where cars have irreplaceable radios, no place for CD players, and so on like what cassette players happened. Better get those CD content be ripped through your smartphone if you got enough space to do so.

Anyway, while this is basically an Opel/Vauxhall Astra K underneath, the new Chevrolet Cruze features handling similar to European compacts, making it a well-sophisticated compact saloon fit for daily uses. Under the hood, the new Cruze comes with a more peppy 1.4L turbo engine, which produces 153 horsepower and promises a EPA estimated fuel economy of 40MPG highway.

Should you buy either of those two? The new Spark starts at $12,660 while the new Cruze starts at $16,620, so whichever Chevy you choose, these new Chevys have features that will set the competition apart. Although some purists will never like the design of both of these cars, which some say it's deemed ugly, the premium amenities are what made these two compensated from their looks.

It's a shame that Europeans will miss out on those and they have to make do with their highly similar Opels or Vauxhalls, in the case of the Karl, Viva, and the Astra K.

20 Years of Pokemon: The 20 most beautiful Pokemon

Continuing on the celebration for twenty years of Pokemon, it's time to focus on the prettiest Pokemons in history. Through the years, apart from featuring cute Pokemon like Pikachu, Fennekin, Oshawott, Minccino, and many others, history has been peppered also with some of the prettiest Pokemons a sophisticated trainer would want more than any fashion accessory. What makes a Pokemon pretty? Nobody knows, not even science can't tell, but either way, time to jot down the twenty most beautiful Pokemons from Kanto to Kalos.

1) Pikachu - Hmmm? I already mentioned Pikachu as one of the cutest Pokemons in history but why would I decided to put it on the list of the most prettiest Pokemons in history? Although maybe cute, Pikachu can be somewhat very beautiful not by the way it looks but by the way it moves. The finest examples of Pikachu's beauty are either Pikachu Pop Star and Pikachu Belle, one of the Cosplay Pikachu variants as pointed from the ORAS games.

2) Ninetails - Although its Pokedex description sounds scary, apart from the part where grabbing one of its tails could result to a thousand-year curse, Ninetails, which is the evolved form of Vulpix after contact with a Fire Stone, is considered to be one of the prettiest and a real keeper for trainers who have great taste of style.

3) Goldeen - Misty used to have one of these during the Indigo League years, the beginning, of course, but anyway, Goldeen's quite a beautiful water-type Pokemon that shows its true colors even when swimming. Don't let its looks fool you because its horns are darn tough.

4) Articuno - One of the three legendary birds in the Kanto region and obviously one of the prettiest if you were lucky enough to see one flying through the winter skies.

5) Meganium - Meganium is the final evolved form of Chikorita and according to its Pokedex description, its breath has the power to revive dead plants and grass, and making it healthy again. Anyway, its wondrous aroma makes it well-suitable to be on the list because if you can imagine female trainers starting their Johto Journeys in a Chikorita and then worked their way to become Meganium, you know that they got class.

6) Bellossom - Sure, when a Gloom made contact with a Leaf Stone, it becomes a Vileplume, but when Gloom made contact with the Sun Stone, it becomes a Bellossom, turning from an ugly Grass-and-Poison type into a fragrant, yet gorgeous, Grass-type Pokemon. Apart from its wondrous aroma, Bellossom's graceful at dancing and when you see a flock of Bellossoms dancing together, it's definitely a pretty spectacle to watch.

7) Ho-oh - One of the legendary Pokemons in the Johto region, only a trainer worthy of a heart of pure gold will be blessed by its appearance by shining its rainbow-colored wings. Although I don't find Ho-oh to be multicolored because it's fiery red, its beauty is considered the stuff of legends.

8) Gardevoir - Gardevoir's one of my favorite Psychic-type Pokemon and when witnessing its Mega Evolution, its prettiness is off the scale. Prettiness aside, its Pixilate ability is a real knock-out especially when Gardevoir's armed with Hyper Voice or Hyper Beam. No wonder the Kalos league champion has one.

9) Altaria - Despite being a Dragon-type Pokemon, Altaria's appearance is rather peaceful and beautiful to keep. Because its so beautiful, its Pokedex description says that its humming sounds beautiful. I also forgot that its Mega Evolution looks fluffy and gorgeous even though it has changed from a Dragon-and-Flying-type to a Dragon-and-Fairy-type, a beautiful combination.

10) Milotic - Milotic is no doubt the most beautiful Pokemon in existence but having a hard-to-find Feebas evolve into one is no easy task because it takes a lot of blue PokeBlocks to get the job done. Despite this hard task, having Milotic is a definite proof that you have a strong liking for a Pokemon's beauty.

11) Roserade - When the Diamond and Pearl games came out in 2006, Roselia, first appeared during the Advanced Generation years, gained two new stages; a pre-evolved form called Budew and a final evolved form called Roserade. If made contact with a Shiny Stone, Roselia evolves into Roserade, the bouquet Pokemon. According to the Pokedex, despite its graceful appearance, it can languish foes with its poisonous thorns. Do I have any idea what kind of trainer would be interested in a Roserade? Well, more specifically a female trainer dressed like a prince in an all-female troupe.

12) Cresselia - Cresselia's one of the Sinnoh legends and according to the Pokedex, it is said to represent the crescent moon. This legendary Pokemon is definitely quite a beauty to behold if you're in a middle of a night watch.

13) Leavanny - The Pokedex states that Leavanny, the final evolved form of Sewaddle, weaves clothing from leaves, using the cutters on its arms and sticky silk. Yep, we seen that stuff during the Black and White anime but one thing you will find about Leavanny's beauty is its smile. Its smile is so beautiful and cute, I felt like I'm one of the few who are completely in love with it.

14) Lilligant - Lilligant's one of the prettiest Pokemons in the Unova region, probably because of its fragrant flower that most trainers deemed to be difficult to take good care of it, according to the Pokedex.

15) Cinccino - Yeah, I did listed Minccino as one of the cutest Pokemons in history but what about its evolved form when it made contact with a Shiny Stone? Cinccino's definitely a beauty to behold in the eyes of a trainer and no matter how things get dirty, this Cinccino never gives up because its special oil coated on its fur makes it clean itself, except when its coating gets blown by Snivy's Leaf Storm attack.

16) Meloetta - Meloetta's a mythical Pokemon with has a melody far beyond compare with any other Pokemon that knows how to sing. When armed with the Relic Song, Meloetta can transform from its Aria Forme to Pirouette Forme, turning from a graceful singer to a graceful dancer back and forth.

17) Vivillon - Vivillon are famous for having a wide range of patterns depending on region and because of its diverse patterns, many trainers wanted to collect most of it, which sounds more of challenge.

18) Florges - In one episode of the Pokemon XY anime series, we've seen a Florges trying to attack Goodra but then later eventually joined to save its homeland from an impending doom. Although pretty to look at, Florges really means business, even for a Fairy-type Pokemon.

19) Xerneas - Xerneas is the stuff of the Kalos legends and known to be the bringer of life. Legends told that it slept for a thousand years in the form of a tree before its revival. When its horns shine like a rainbow, it is said to bring life. Either way, this legendary Pokemon is quite a beauty to behold.

20) Diancie - When witnessing its Mega Evolution, Diancie's beauty is beyond compare of any of the most beautiful Pokemon existed. With such beauty, it was known as the Royal Pink Princess. For us, Diancie or Mega Diancie, it's a definite proof that we still believe that Diamonds are Forever....

Next time, let's list down the 20 most scariest Pokemons as part of the Pokemon 20 year celebration.

The AlDub 6th Monthsary Date in latest Kalyeserye

Once again, the AlDub love team had another date behind the stage of Broadway Centrum in the latest Kalyeserye segment on GMA's Eat Bulaga, in honor of their sixth monthsary. The crowd went nuts upon the arrival of Yaya Dub and the lolas in the set minutes after Bulaga Pa More champions duked things out in the Battle of the Champions grand finals and if that wasn't enough, Alden Richards' fully prepared for something special to Yaya Dub. That's right, they're on a solo date behind the stage while the lolas are busy doing stuff with the audience.

Photo: Official Eat Bulaga Facebook Page

After their behind-the-stage date, the three lolas performed on-stage and later, the audiences asked Alden and Yaya Dub some series of questions as well!

Anyway, there was one thing we did noticed. When Alden said that Yaya Dub will be his, she promised that she's going to reply Alden...on three conditions. What three conditions? We don't know what are those because of the honk honk honk noise going on. So, keep watching Eat Bulaga every weekdays for more Kalyeserye antics!

Happy 6th Monthsary, AlDub!

Hyundai IONIQ

So this must be Hyundai's Prius fighter everyone's been talking about from last year. This is Hyundai's first ever full-hybrid vehicle capable of starting the year 2016 with a jolting sensation, it's called the IONIQ and this eco car made by South Korea's fastest growing carmaker looks somewhat promising to drive at. Even though it's South Korea's take on the commoner's favorite Toyota Prius, the first-ever IONIQ Hybrid really means business in the hybrid car stakes.

2016 Hyundai IONIQ

So, what's it all about? When observers first heard about the IONIQ before its launch, Hyundai says that it will be offered in hybrid, electric, and PHEV through the whole year but for the launch, the hybrid model comes first, which sounds like a start for the IONIQ range. The IONIQ Hybrid is powered by a Kappa 1.6L GDi engine connected to a 32kW electric motor and a lithium-ion battery. With these powertrains working in unison, it provides a total output of 141PS of power and 265Nm of torque. Fuel economy is expected to be at around 22.4km/L, that's over a half percentage less than what the latest Toyota Prius had but unlike the Toyota Prius, the IONIQ comes with the newly developed 6-speed double clutch gearbox, making this hybrid car more engaging to drive.

2016 Hyundai IONIQ

Yes, a double clutch gearbox in a hybrid sounds very lovely but one skepticism some might be aware of is its reliability issues like those faced in the third-generation Honda Fit Hybrid. The Fit Hybrid's double clutch gearbox faced glitches at first and it is unclear if the IONIQ might face the same problem as the Fit but in the meantime, let's hope it isn't.

Apart from its performance, aerodynamics played a crucial role in the IONIQ and like we saw on last year's Kia K5 Hybrid, the new IONIQ comes with a rather unique active air flap on its grille. Thanks to the IONIQ's clever way of managing aerodynamics, it has the best Cd-value of just 0.24, making it one of the most aerodynamic cars in the market.

2016 Hyundai IONIQ

Because it runs on an entirely new platform made possible for hybrids, the IONIQ's dynamics doesn't feel as shoddy as a Prius, although it feels as commoner as a commoner's car on the suburbs. Sure, it's not what you called sporty, even when you set it on the SPORT setting where it stiffens the suspension, but the IONIQ feels very civilized, very mild, very delicate, and above all, very comfortable, although driving one of these in the highway can be somewhat as dull as a party at the Clarion Hotel.

2016 Hyundai IONIQ  interior

Apart from its driving comforts and dynamism fit for a Korean hybrid, the interior of the IONIQ not only looks futuristic but surprisingly nice to live with. It's surprisingly high-tech because of its infotainment system that supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and a very handful wireless charging station where you can charge your smartphone without the hassle of using a USB connector. Aside from that, it's surprisingly spacious in the back and its boot space can accommodate up to 750 litres with the rear seats folding flat.

Should you buy one? The IONIQ hybrid starts from 22,950,000 KRW for the I model up to 27,550,000 KRW for the range-topping Q model. Sounds like much but at this rate, you can afford one than the Toyota Prius, making it a much cheaper alternative.

Available colors: Polar White, Mist Meadow, Platinum Silver, Jockey Brown, Aurora Silver, Phoenix Orange, Iron Grey, Marina Blue, and Phantom Black.

Kishida said that last week's nuclear test was a serious security threat on a global scale and Lavrov called it a violation to UNSC resolutions.

Aquino insisted that the pension hike may result to substantial negative income for the SSS as it may only resort to using its Investment Reserve Fund to support the pension hike.

- The North American division of Middle Easter broadcaster Al Jazeera will cease their US cable news operations by the end of April after three years of operations. The reason of their closure is because its business is not sustainable in today's economic condition in the US media marketplace.

The recent development comes in from a certain newspaper report that four of the five members are in talks to leave the talent agency Johnny & Associates after their longtime manager leaves the position as director of its subsidiary company. Other reports told that there was a conflict between the manager and the agency VP that caused the imminent breakup.

- In one episode of On The Wings of Love, Leah (played by Nadine Lustre) had a surprise bridal shower thrown by her friends. She was shocked until Clark (James Reid) comes in, wearing a police uniform and doing a macho dance on her. Now, this episode's in hot water after receiving complaints from the Philippine National Police. The staff behind the show apologized for that matter.

- In case you missed the recent Eat Bulaga kalyeserye, Yaya Dub joins the Miss Barangay pageant...and she was placed as 1st runner up. Despite the results, it's more than enough to help Lola Nidora, but for Alden, he has a surprise for Yaya Dub for their weeksary. What is it? Tune in next time and find out.

20 Years of Pokemon: The 20 most cutest Pokemon

2016 marks the 20th anniversary of the Pokemon franchise since the first ever Pokemon Red and Green games launched for the original Game Boy on the 27th of February, 1996. What better way is to start the celebration of twenty years of Pokemon.

Through the years since the first games launched, history has been peppered with the cutest Pokemon any trainer want to keep it. What makes a Pokemon cute? Is it the size? The personality? The way it moves? To start this so-called tribute to 20 years of Pokemon, let's get to know the 20 of the most cutest Pokemon in history.

1) Pikachu - There's only one way Pikachu deserved the top spot because it's the world's most adorable Pokemon everybody knows. From being Ash's longtime partner since the show began to the Cosplay Pikachu variations as seen on the ORAS games, many Pokemon have rivalled Pikachu's cuteness but failed to out cute everyone's favorite Pokemon. What's the world of Pokemon be without Pikachu as the mascot anyway? It would be boring so that's why having Pikachu as the face of the Pokemon franchise means so much for the franchise.

2) Clefairy - In the video games, finding Clefairy in locations like Mt. Moon is a total nightmare but despite its rarity, these star-shaped Pokemon are very cute, especially when they're doing their Clefairy dance you've been trying to memorize it while playing a certain Pokemon Stadium mini-game.

3) Jigglypuff - We all think Jigglypuff is cute not because of its round, rubbery, looks but because of its Sing attack that puts us all to sleep and when we all woke up, we got the doodles from Jigglypuff's.

4) Chansey - It's hard to find and get one at the Safari Zone in games but in the first anime series, every Nurse Joy in the Indigo League has one, making it the ideal Pokemon you want yours to be healed by.

5) Eevee - Eevee is well-known for its diverse evolutions from Vaporeon, Jolteon, Flareon, Espeon, Umbreon, Glaceon, Leafeon, and Sylveon. Either way, we think a normal Eevee looks cute in any way. May from the Advanced Generation series and Serena from the XY series has one in the TV series.

6) Pichu - Yes, we know that Pikachu is super cute and its evolved form Raichu isn't but what about Pichu? Sure, it's the pre-evolved form of Pikachu but even though it looks cute from every angle, it's still not good enough to outcute Pikachu in the popularity stakes. We enjoyed Pichu from meeting up with the Pichu Bros. in a Pikachu and Pichu short film before Pokemon the Movie 3 and a spiky-haired one in the Pokemon movie Arceus and the Jewel of Life.

7) Togepi - During the Indigo League years, this Togepi has been a favorite of Misty, Cerulean Gym Leader and one of Ash's companions. Although too young to battle, this Togepi has been tagging along with Pikachu and friends on their adorable adventures.

8) Plusle and Minun - Main reason why I put both of these electric twins on one spot is because these twin electric-types are twice the cute in every reasonable way. Plusle and Minun love to make some double trouble for our own entertainment, in game or in anime. What the hey, we just want to hug them both.

9) Piplup - One of the Sinnoh starters and a partner of Trainer Dawn in the Diamond and Pearl years, we've seen Piplup tagging along Pikachu like a bunch of best friends and with the two of them being together, it's like a love affair.

10) Pachirisu - Full of energy and quite adorable for a Sinnoh-helmed Pokemon, Pachirisu's cuteness surely wanna make any cute electric-type Pokemon jealous, even Pikachu.

11) Oshawott - One of the Unova starters and one of Ash's Pokemon entourage during the Black and White years. Oshawott sure likes to pop out eagerly from a Poke Ball just to be a show-off but sometimes, Oshawott can be somewhat clumsy. No matter how bad things get for Oshawott, it's nice to see how cute Oshawott performs in the hearts of many fans.

12) Scraggy - Despite being a Dark and Fighting type, Scraggy turned out be kinda cute even when its angry. Believe it or not, Scraggy has a strong liking for Iris' Axew in the Black and White TV series and even when they're not battling each other, they can be the best of friends.

13) Minccino - According to the Pokedex, Minccino are well known to clean stuff using their tails as brooms but we won't want to do that to our Minccinos. What we really want is to be tickled by those Pokemon like what happened to Pikachu, Pignite, Oshawott, and Emolga.

14) Emolga - Like any other cute electric types, Emolga is a cute representative of the Unova region and in the TV series, it looks charming when it used Attract.

15) Axew - We all thought Dragon type Pokemons are scary but this one isn't. Of course, while this is truly a Dragon-type Pokemon, Axew's definitely a cutie to keep just like Iris had in the Black and White series.

16) Chespin - One of the Kalos starters and in the XY series, we seen Chespin tagging alongside Clemont, a Lumiose Gym Leader and one of Ash's companions. Although cute in any aspect, we seen Chespin getting blamed for eating all of their picnic, which of course, Chespin's a heavy eater that gets the rap by them.

17) Fennekin - One of the Kalos starters and a choice for Serena in the XY series until it was evolved to Braixen. Fennekin has been one of the most-picked starters for those who began their Kalos journey when the XY games launched in late 2013, probably because of its appealing looks fit enough to pet with. What I really like about Fennekin that it's more of a pooch rather than being a fox and I like to have one barking cutely on me. One thing you don't want to mess Fennekin is its tail because it takes a lot of grooming to have its tail in pristine condition.

18) Froakie - One of the Kalos starters and been tagging along with Ash since he got one in the XY series until it evolved from Frogadier, and then in the XYZ series, Greninja, which also happens to have a special power to transform into Ash-Greninja. In its first stage, Froakie looks temptingly cute and because it's so cute, fans have a growing fetishes over how Froakie moves and behaves. Still, this Froakie is considered cute in every aspect.

19) Pancham - This panda-bear like Pokemon is Serena's first caught Pokemon in the XY TV series because of her ambition to become the best Pokemon performer in the Kalos region. Annoyingly, we seen Pancham picking fights against Clemont's Chespin, but in the end, it's them being together like a bunch of little boys who picked fights at first and then became friends.

20) Dedenne - Dedenne's an Electric-and-Fairy type Pokemon and while some people mistook it for a Raichu, Dedenne's like an adorable little baby to go coochy-coochy-coo and wants to be taken along for a trip like what Bonnie had in the XY TV series. Of course, while Bonnie's too young to be a trainer, she made a special friendship with Dedenne and because it's special, she decided to keep Dedenne in her little pochette, even with the Zygarde Core (the little one that looks squishy) in the XYZ series.

Next time, let's list down the 20 most beautiful Pokemons as part of the Pokemon 20 year celebration.
