Forza Motorsport 6: The new Roadster

The all-new, fourth-generation, Mazda Roadster or MX-5 is one of the must-have cars of 2015 and here we are, in the world of Forza, got to try out the latest Roadster in one of the world's finest race tracks just for the fun of it.

Here in Forza Motorsport 6, players can get to know more about the latest version of the Mazda Roadster/MX-5 not just by observing every detail inside and out but also getting to know how its newly-found dynamics work in the racetracks, be it dry, wet, or dark. Once again, we are driving the fourth-generation Roadster, in-game, powered by a SKYACTIV-G 2.0L petrol engine that the Japanese market never had at launch. Looks like the Japanese Forza fans will wistfully listen to its SKYACTIV-G 2.0L engine sound via ForzaVista because this engine is not available for the new Roadster up to know. Only the world market had the chance to drive it because that's what it came from Mazda's dossier.

Be that in mind that even though this is a 2.0L engine, it's still reasonably small, and thanks to SKYACTIV-CHASSIS and SKYACTIV-BODY applied to this new Roadster, it still retains the classic Roadster formula, valuing aerodynamics over performance, as well as delivering its nimble and yet accessible dynamics everyone can master. Enjoy this car as much as you want because the new Roadster is still one of the most enjoyable cars to drive in Forza Motorsport 6.

Speaking of enjoyable, since this is Forza Motorsport 6, I decided to give this new Roadster a Top Gear Power Lap round the Top Gear Test Track. See if how much fun this new Roadster can do...

So, how's the new Roadster at the track? Well, it did set a lap time of 1:36.792. Not the fastest it has ever done but this track demonstrated how good the new Roadster is and I am very happy to taste one of Mazda's latest masterpieces. Ah the joys of driving the Mazda with SKYACTIV Technology in-game...

Forza Horizon 2: Long Live The Roadster

mx5 (4)

No. You're not seeing things. This is the real deal. What you're looking at is the new and improved version of Mazda's lightweight open-top sportscar that captures the hearts of most car enthusiasts for over 25 yeas thanks to its simple recipe of lightweight body, small engine in the front, rear-wheel drive, and its fun-to-drive character.

mx5 (2)

This is the brand new Mazda MX-5, the fourth-generation ND model. It's yours to drive thanks to a free-to-download Mazda MX-5 Car Pack on the Forza Horizon 2 video game for the XBOX One console.

mx5 (3)

For the past 10 years of Forza Motorsport history, players from all over the world have enjoyed playing with their favorite generation of Mazda's lightweight roadster from the first NA model to the outgoing NC model. With the new ND model, this will give players an unprecedented access to the latest generation before rushing one to their nearest Mazda dealerships to buy one in real life.

This particular ND MX-5 comes with the one engine that Japanese car enthusiasts can wistfully hear it to their ears because it's not available to the Japanese dealerships; yep, it's a 2.0L SKYACTIV-G engine producing 155HP of power and 148lb-ft of torque. It's kinda unfair why this engine made it to the global market alongside the smaller 1.5L model but not Japan at the moment but even with a bigger displacement than what the Japanese had, it's still very small as promised. And because it's so small, it was counterweighted with its lightweight bodywork and improved dynamics, delivering the same Mazda Roadster formula that has enjoyed drivers for over 25 years. The more you drive with this latest model, the more you'll love about how enjoyable this model is.

mx5

It's a great job bringing in a Mazda car with SKYACTIV Technology in the world of video games because being Mazda's sportscar loaded with everything SKYACTIV in it, from the engine to the dynamics, they're built to be expendable, built to be efficient, built to be fun, and overall, built to be a Mazda. For me, I want to prove this new Roadster still has the same spirit that was endowed over the past 25 years and for that, I have given this car a special assignment in the form of a series of races in Nice.

mx5 (5) mx5 (6)

Of course, being in Forza Horizon 2, this all-new MX-5 is not come unprepared for the party with something to fit for the very occasion and I have done much of that. Now, for more golden-eyed viewers may have spotted that the theme in question is Uzuki Shimamura from THE IDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls and yes, it fits perfectly well in tune with the times. If someone sees a man in his new MX-5 with Shimamu's face plastered all over, they are going to question the driver in question how in the name of all things bright and beautiful is possible. You'll find that out in the right moment...

Since this is a brand new car, I am resorting myself to a much difficult challenge to get to know more about the brand new Mazda MX-5 and because of that, I have decided not to improve its performance at all. That sounds bland but this is worth of a challenge if you want to know more how good the new MX-5 is.

Anyway, with the risky gamble all set, it's time to find out just how good the new MX-5 is in a series of races in Nice. Let's see how SKYACTIV Technology works even in here...

Even in untouched performance, the new MX-5 fared very well in the series of races even when faces rough scenarios only experts can handle the rest. I have to say, I am very impressed with this new model, and I am looking forward to enjoy this new model even more.

Huh? Have I just unlocked the Horizon Finale? Does this mean I have to take on the Horizon Finale for the second time? Wow... Looks like our work's almost done here...

Mazda Roadster ND

For over 25 years, the Mazda Roadster (MX-5 Miata in the world market) continues to provide exhilarating thrills in a lightweight package suitable for a Japanese sports car for the masses. Because it was influenced by British sports cars of the past century, it values aerodynamics over performance. With the lighter bodywork, smaller engine, and rear-wheel drive, the Roadster continues to impress numerous car enthusiasts worldwide and now, there's a new version.

2016 Mazda Roadster

Welcome to the all-new Mazda Roadster ND, the latest generation of the hit lightweight sportscar, and starting at just 2,494,800 Japanese Yen, it's still an affordable sports car you can buy. This is an all-new car because the new Roadster implements Mazda's revolutionary SKYACTIV Technology which balances fuel efficiency and performance at a same pace. This is an all-new car but even though it's all-new, the Roadster formula still remains; light body, small engine, rear-wheel drive, and its fun-to-drive character.

The new Roadster features an all-new body which is now 100kg lighter than the previous model and it's all because Mazda employed their "gram strategy", involving the extensive use of lightweight aluminum materials which makes it as light and rigid as the first-ever Eunos Roadster from the distant past.

2016 Mazda Roadster
In true Roadster tradition, the new model is powered by a small engine in the form of the new SKYACTIV-G 1.5L petrol engine developing a reasonable 131PS of power and 150Nm of torque while mated with either a 6-speed automatic (annoyingly sourced from the Toyota 86) or a newly-developed SKYACTIV-MT 6-speed gearbox developed specifically for the new Roadster. To further enhance the fuel consumption for the new Roadster, an available i-ELOOP regenerative braking system is offered, resulting to a fuel economy of up to 18.8km/L by JC08 mode standards.

Handling-wise, the new Roadster, thanks to its lightweight bodywork, is becoming more accessible and soon, more popular. The front suspension is double-wishbone, the weight distribution remains perfect, it's got electric power steering, and it's more enjoyable in the bends. The way it handles is becoming more generous than struggling with the more powerful sportscars and as long as there are blue skies and the long winding road ahead of you, the Roadster feels like it's completing an image of what motoring dreams are made of.

2016 Mazda Roadster interior

Even though this is a lightweight car, the new Roadster still comes with concessions of comfort despite being a driver-focused sportscar. You can have available leather seats, climate control, even the available MAZDA CONNECT, which allows the driver to stay connected with some apps, navigation, and entertainment. That's a great car to live in and it's not like you're sleeping in a storage room for numerous reasons.

2016 Mazda Roadster

If there's something I didn't like about the new Roadster, then probably it's the design that makes the case for itself. I know this car is good as well as the Kodo design language but I'm afraid that it wasn't as aggressive-looking as any other sports cars would be. It can be somewhat problematic on the city streets because even with the roof close, discretion is no longer a priority and people are starting to know you are driving this.

But it doesn't really matter though because despite its flaws, the new Roadster really has a lot to live up with. It's still one of the most enjoyable sportscars money can buy but there's a bit of an argument because most people will believe that the best lightweight sportscar you can enjoy is an Alfa Romeo 4C but you should remember that the new Roadster ND is more affordable than the 4C even if it has a Spider version coming up.

However, if you compare it to a much smaller roadster available in Japan in the case of the Honda S660, that's a different story because the S660's more cheaper than this and it's more enjoyable thanks to its MR layout but let's note that the S660's available only in Japan while the new Roadster will be available globally shortly after its Japan release. Fact.

Available colors: Ceramic Metallic, Soul Red Premium Metallic, Jet Black Mica, Meteor Grey Mica, Blue Reflex Mica,  Crystal White Pearl Mica, and Arctic White.

25 Years of Mazda Roadster

The Mazda Roadster (MX-5 Miata in the world market) is now 25 years old. It grown up, it matured, but the secret formula for the Roadster's success never change; providing exhilarating thrills in a lightweight package, and that's good. While the Roadster was a Japanese sports car for the masses, it always goes under the influence of what true British sports cars do; aerodynamics over performance. As the late Colin Chapman from Lotus says that adding power makes you go faster on the straight line but subtracting weight makes you go faster everywhere. The Mazda Roadster is like that, being a lightweight car that makes you go faster everywhere.

Let's rewind the best 25 years of the Mazda Roadster with the best of what the past three generations have pulled together;

1) Eunos Roadster, we presented

The first Roadster (1989-1998)

The first Roadster (designated as NA) debuted in 1989 under the name, Eunos Roadster. which of course, Eunos is one of the brands from Mazda aside from Efini and Autozam back then. If you're new to the world of Japanese cars, let me get this straight; At the end of the 1980's, Mazda tries to diversify the Japanese car market by introducing three different marques. This is just like Toyota, Honda (with their Primo, Verno, and Clio marques), Mitsubishi, and Nissan from their heydays. The three marques are; Autozam (comprised of affordable entry-level cars), Efini (the exclusive luxury brand where the FD RX-7 is sold), and Eunos. Eunos is an upscale brand from Mazda and it's naming comes from the Greek word "eu" meaning "good" and "nos" referring to the abbreviation to the word "numbers".

For the list of Eunos cars aside from the Roaster, click here.

Anyway, The Eunos Roadster was exported worldwide as the Mazda MX-5 Miata. It was hugely popular among enthusiasts because of such lightweight chassis. The Eunos Roadster is powered with either a B6-ZE 1597cc 4-cylinder DOHC engine that produces 120ps/6500rpm of power or the BP-ZE 1839cc 4-cylinder DOHC engine that produces 130ps/6500rpm of power. There are so many special editions of the NA Roadster, including the S-Special, V-Special, or the J Limited. The first Roadster is all about choice.

2) ROADSTER, Reborn

The second Roadster (1998-2005)

In 1998, the arrival of the New Roadster came into reality. It even exported worldwide as the second-generation Mazda MX-5. The positive aspect about the NB Mazda Roadster is that it retains the styling from the Eunos Roadster, only this time, the retractable headlights from the NA Roadster has been replaced by the fixed headlights, providing the essence of style. This generation offers a 1.6L or a BP-ZE 1.8L 4-cylinder engine that produces either 145/160ps of power.

3) One car. One driver. One feeling.

The third Roadster (2005-2015)

In the year 2005, the Mazda Roadster (MX-5 Miata) received another full model change and gained the designation of NC. By November 2005, the NC Roadster won the 2005-2006 Japan Car of the Year.  When it first arrived in August 25, 2005, it became a sensation because the Mazda NC Roadster was just a miniature version of the Mazda RX-8 but the 3rd Roadster retains the 2-seater capacity from the previous two generations. The standard engine is the LF-VE 1998cc 4-cylinder DOHC engine that produces 170ps/6700-7000rpm of power and torque of 19.3kgf-m/5000rpm. Being an FR sportscar seems to be more enjoyable but for the Roadster, its about looking at its best. The concept of "One car. One drive. One feeling." really serves the point about the NC Roadster, even though in the year 2005, when the car was released, it gained a huge success and earned the title of being 2005-2006 Japan Car of the Year.

That's the end of it. These are the previous generations that helped shaped the Roadster image over the past two and a half decades and now, the moment of truth has arrived because Mazda finally showed the world the brand new 2016 Mazda Roadster (ND).

2016 Mazda Roadster
Set for its 2015 release, the new, fourth-generation, Mazda Roadster still retains the same Roadster legacy while gaining its new look and new features, although details remain scarce for now. With the KODO design language and SKYACTIV Technology in place, the ND Roadster will become the best Roadster the world has ever witnessed.

So thank you and happy 25th birthday, Mazda Roadster!

Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 Roadster

If there's any car that is capable enough to deliver as much adrenaline as it can, this would be it. The Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 Roadster.

2014 Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 Roadster
There are many good reasons why this additional model of the Lamborghini flagship is essential on a Spring Break like this because first of all, this roadster was all about the excitement it delivers and lastly, there's the name. Aventador. The name given to a bull that was once faced a bloody battle in the 90's at the Saragossa Arena, earning the "Trofeo de la Peña La Madroñera" for its outstanding courage. Sounds interesting though and just like getting yourself high at some anime convention in Seattle, there's more about this car that set your pulse racing. In freeways, the Aventador Roadster is just something else, it's just extraordinary, and with no roof, this is how your adrenaline kicks in.

0-60mph takes under three seconds and top speed retains at 349 km/h (217 mph). Usually, convertible supercars tend to be heavier than their hardtop equivalents because for cars like these, stiffening needs are necessary to make it stronger. For the Aventador Roadster, the engineers had been skillful and they manage to add about 50kg of weight. Not too shabby though, but despite the added weight, it's still more fun to drive and I really get myself a thousand heartbeats per second! Imagine, driving myself through the tunnels heading through Bellevue, in a matter of minutes, I shall become a new man. A new man with a totally different behavior! (laughing) So much for excitement!

However, if things started to rain, this is where the worrying part when it comes to driving the Aventador Roadster and that is on closing the roof by yourself. Back in the Murcielago Roadster, installing the roof is like assembling a scout tent for your boy scouts. It really takes about 20 or 30 minutes to get the job done but on that, it's rubbish. Assembling the Murcielago Roadster's roof is quite dull but Lamborghini thinks that with the Aventador Roadster, there is a better way. Instead of a scout tent of utter rubbishness, it comes with a two-piece roof which Lamborghini claims that it will take about a minute to attach the 13-pound carbon fiber roof but that takes two to get the job done. By doing it yourself, it will take about two minutes to attach it before your favortie shirt gets soaked up in the rain. Sounds intriguing but this is much more time-saving than assembling the Murcielago Roadster's roof! Sadly though, with the roof attached, it's all drama and this is more telenovela-ish. It kinda feels like there's a village idiot in a family of geniuses. It takes a village idiot to marry another village idiot.

2014 Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 Roadster
However, the new Aventador Roadster is all about being classy. Check out that wheels, it was made specifically for the Roadster, and then there was this unique sky blue color, and a special tan interior for the Aventador. Now that's classy but let's not forget. This is a Spring Break. This is just bewildering great! It's so savage, it's so strkingly beautiful, quick, and this is just like the moment when I was in a photo booth with the other geeks outside the convention!

Also, thanks to 4WD layout and with traction control, it's much more forgiving as well. It's all about the thrills without the spills and I like that way. This is just like it was made by IT professionals rather than being just a drawing from a little kid. What I love about this car is its bewildering behavior that loves to crash other people's parties for no reason but unlike the alien boy, it won't bite you alive after reciting Shakespeare's Sonnet. Feels like I'm back in Spring Break, this time with weapons!

It's still presses all the right buttons. It's still the best Lambo ever made. It's what you might call a real thoroughbred beast.

2013 Mazda Roadster (MX-5 Miata) info

2013 Mazda Roadster

2013 Mazda Roadster

It appears that the current NC Mazda Roadster (known in the world market as the MX-5) will stay on a little longer as they launched an updated 2013 version of the FR open-sports roadster. On front, you could expect an aggressive face that seems to be somewhat Kodo-fied or a bit more CX-5-ish. Once more, the 2013 Mazda Roadster now comes with an Active Bonnet (pedestrian protection system) which raises the rear end of the bonnet in the event of an accident to reduce impact to the head.

PRESS RELEASE:

HIROSHIMA, Japan—Mazda Motor Corporation has upgraded the Mazda Roadster (known overseas as the Mazda MX-5) for the Japanese market. The refreshed two-seater open-top sports car goes on sale today at all Mazda and Mazda Anfini dealerships throughout Japan.
The design of the upgraded Roadster distinguishes between the sporty character of the soft top and the refined character of the power retractable hard top (RHT) through the use of coordinated black and silver features respectively. The front face of both versions has been redesigned to present a more aggressive look. For the interior, a new luxury tan color is available for the genuine leather seats. In addition, revised characteristics of the throttle and brake booster (power braking device) have improved control of the accelerator in the manual transmission models and the brakes in all models. The enhancements add polish to the pure driving pleasure which has made the Roadster (MX-5) famous.
In addition, the updated Roadster features an Active Bonnet (pedestrian protection system) which raises the rear end of the bonnet in the event of an accident to reduce impact to the head.

Main features of the upgraded Mazda Roadster:

A distinct character for the RHT and Soft-top version
The keywords guiding the design of the soft top were "tight sports". Coordinated black features express sportiness
The keywords guiding the design of the RHT were "premium sports." Coordinated silver features denote refined, high quality driving performance

<Aggressive front view>
Front face has a sense of depth with a larger front grille opening
Newly designed front fog lamp bezel
New front chin spoiler
New body color, Dolphin Gray Mica now available (Total seven body colors are available. Metropolitan Gray Mica is no longer available).

<Enhanced interior quality>
A lustrous and expressive new color, Glossy Dark Gray is used for the decoration panel and steering wheel bezel. (The color is an option for the Soft Top version of the S model grade.)
Addition of a new tan color for the genuine leather seat covers. Black on the seat sides creates a stylish two-tone design. Fabric (black), leather (tan and black) and a combination of Alcantara® and black leather seat cover materials are available.
Sports car driving pleasure taken to the next level
Enhanced acceleration control (manual transmission models)
Fine adjustments to the throttle management program make it more responsive when accelerating out of corners. This creates a linear and nimble feel.
Enhanced braking control
Changes to the characteristics of the brake booster (power braking device) make it easier to control the front and rear load distribution, increasing the feel of mastery over the vehicle.
Newly developed active bonnet for all model grades
Active bonnet
At certain vehicle speeds, when sensors detect an impact exceeding a defined level, the rear end of the bonnet is raised. This creates a space between the bonnet and the engine which acts to absorb the energy of impact and reduces the severity of head injuries in collisions involving pedestrians.
Cutting weight one gram at a time
In order to keep weight down, uncompromising attention was paid to weight reduction in the design of new parts including the re-designed front bumper, the active bonnet, the new 17-inch aluminum wheels and the internal wiring.

The car that caused Top Gear the subject of legal proceedings for defamation and malicious falsehood

Tesla vs. The Stig

This is the car that caused Top Gear the subject of legal proceedings for defamation and malicious falsehood brought by Tesla Motors Ltd and Tesla Motors Inc against the BBC. It's called the Tesla Roadster. It was an electric sportscar produced from California and it was based on the Lotus Elise. Overall it looks good but Tesla said it was nippy. When this one was featured on Top Gear with Jeremy Clarkson on it, this single-gear EV roadster armed with just an electric motor with the size of a watermelon trounced the petrol-powered Lotus Elise on the straights, when suddenly the car's batteries are running flat after 55 miles of heavy use. What is it then this Tesla Roadster?

Wave good-bye to dial and welcome to
the world of Broadband motoring!!!

Tesla Motors was established in California's Silicon Valley in 2003 and this car was made as an announcement back in 2006 that shocked the world where electric cars went through its knees. The first time it was featured was on the 2006 San Francisco International Auto Show held since November 2006 and soon it gained recognition in Los Angeles, Detroit, and Frankfurt. The first Tesla was delivered in 2008 to the brand's co-founder, chairman, and product architect Elon Musk. They produced about 500 units through June 2009 and on the following month, production for the 2010 Tesla Roadster commenced.

Jeremy Clarkson told us that a normal G-Wiz (the one that is slower than a table) comes with old-fashioned batteries that has a speed of a horse but the Tesla is powered by a battery that comes from a laptop. About 6,831 laptop batteries that Clarkson once said. We kinda refer it to the Lithium-ion battery and a three phase AC motor. That motor generates 245HP of power and 198.9 ft-lb of torque. It will do 0-100kph in about 3.7 seconds and top speed limited to 201kph. A fully charged Tesla takes about 3.5 hours long using the High Power Connector which supplies 70 amp, 240 volt electricity; in practice, recharge cycles usually start from a partially charged state and require less time. A fully charged ESS stores approximately 53 kWh of electrical energy at a nominal 375 volts and weighs 992 lb (450 kg).

Jeremy Clarkson told us that it would took about 16 hours when it was charged at the 13 amp socket, which nuclear power generated this. What's the point of this? Perhaps I have no idea that the libel suit by Tesla really pierced through the BBC even though as of now, the High Court in London rejected Tesla's libel claim.

Volt-head vs. the Petrolhead!

Despite all that battle between Tesla and Top Gear, I was kinda more than happy of taking part of the Tesla Roadster, the only electric car that is definitely fun to drive even though it's a RWD. With traction control off, this is so completely bonkers to drive, even in Gran Turismo 5. The sound of sporty silence really broke my silence when my foot is on the pedal of the Tesla and it converted me from petrolhead to volt-head. No wait, make that BIRIBIRI!!!!

MINI Roadster

2013 Mini Roadster

There was already a convertible variant for the Mini, which is the MINI CABRIO, but who would need another open-top MINI on their lineup anyway? The all new Mini Roadster is somewhat the same as the Mini Cabrio but instead of a four-seater layout, the Mini Roadster has two seats! TWO SEATS! That makes the Mini Roadster different than the Mini Cabrio! The Mini Roadster has rivals on its sleeves such as the Renault Wind and the Mazda Roadster.

It's actually the drop-top version of last year's Mini Coupe and the result is 20 millimeters lower than the Mini Cabrio as this new model cuts a distinctive, low-slung and elegantly stretched figure from the side. Unlike modern roadsters, the black soft-top roof can be folded by hand, not by machine, but on the plus side, closing or open the roof manually saves time rather that waiting for 10 to 20 seconds to close or open the roof automatically.

On the inside, there goes the same old Mini interior but with the black interior, it was made to be road-focused and avoiding the driver of getting distracted by something that attracts him or her, especially the combination of upholstery variant, trim elements and Color Lines chosen by the MINI Roadster owner.

Firstly, the entry-level of the range was the Mini Cooper Roadster, the most economical variant was the Mini Cooper SD Roadster, and the sportiest model was the Mini Cooper S Roadster. Those variants have a choice of a 6-speed automatic and a 6-speed manual transmission. Because I can't take this too long, here are the specs of each variants;

MINI Cooper S Roadster
Four-cylinder petrol engine with MINI TwinPower Turbo technology
Displacement: 1,598 cc
Power Output: 135 kW/184 hp at 5,500 rpm
Max. torque: 240 Nm/177 lb-ft at 1,600-5,000 rpm (260 Nm/192 lb-ft with Overboost at 1,730-4,500 rpm)
Acceleration 0-100 km/h (62 mph): 7.0 seconds
Top speed: 227 km/h (141 mph)
Average fuel consumption according to EU: 6.0 l/100 km (47.1 mpg imp)
CO2 emissions: 139 g/km

MINI Cooper Roadster
Four-cylinder petrol engine with fully variable valve management based on the BMW Group's VALVETRONIC technology
Displacement: 1,598 cc
Power Output: 90 kW/122 hp at 6,000 rpm
Max. torque: 160 Nm/118 lb-ft at 4,250 rpm
Acceleration 0-100 km/h (62 mph): 9.2 seconds
Top speed: 199 km/h (124 mph)
Average fuel consumption according to EU: 5.7 l/100 km (49.6 mpg imp)
CO2 emissions: 133 g/km

MINI Cooper SD Roadster
Four-cylinder turbodiesel with MINI TwinPower Turbo technology
Displacement: 1,995 cc
Power Output: 105 kW/143 hp at 4,000 rpm
Max. torque: 305 Nm/225 lb-ft at 1,750-2,700 rpm
Acceleration 0-100 km/h (62 mph): 8.1 seconds
Top speed: 212 km/h (132 mph)
Average fuel consumption according to EU: 4.5 l/100 km (62.8 mpg imp)
CO2 emissions: 118 g/km

If you're not interested in those, consider this, the JCW (John Cooper Works) version of the Mini Roadster.

2013 Mini John Cooper Works Roadster

Being the latest of Mini's John Cooper Works range that consist of the original, JCW Cabrio, JCW Clubman, JCW Coupe, and the upcoming JCW Countryman, the new JCW Roadster has go-kart agility with a turbocharged engine, which sounds perfect to mess around your neighbors.

SPECS:
Four-cylinder petrol engine with MINI TwinPower Turbo technology and numerous technological details carried over directly from motor sport
Displacement: 1,598 cc
Power Output: 155 kW/211 hp at 6,000 rpm
Max. torque: 260 Nm/192 lb-ft at 1,850-5,600 rpm (280 Nm/207 lb-ft with Overboost at 2,000-5,100 rpm)
Acceleration 0-100 km/h (62 mph): 6.5 seconds
Top speed: 237 km/h (147 mph)
Average fuel consumption according to EU: 7.3 l/100 km (38.7 mpg imp)
CO2 emissions: 169 g/km

Colors Available for the Mini Roadster such as Chili Red, Pepper White, British Racing Green II, Eclipse Grey, Lightning Blue, Midnight Black, Spice Orange, White Silver, and Reef Blue.

My comment:
It wasn't a good idea to have another convertible model with the same size as the Mini Cabrio but the Mini Roadster is somewhat known to be the Cabrio's evil twin because it was highly a soft-top version of the Mini Coupe. Because it has two seats, this car was made for the singles who want to take their girls to a date at a five-star restaurant. The Mini Roadster is a silly addition of the Mini range but it does pack some serious performance. Well, another day, another adventure...

Low-Emissions, Lightweight MX-5 Spyder and MAZDASPEED-Infused Turbo2
Headline Mazda’s Lineup at Annual Automotive Aftermarket Trade Show -

LAS VEGAS (November 1, 2011) – Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) is known for its Zoom-Zoom dynamism, which is evident in the brand’s lineup of distinct design and divine drivability, and brings to this year’s Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show a fleet of vehicles highlighting Mazda’s motorsports heritage, efficiency aspirations and daily-driver potential.

“There is no limit to one’s imagination and when applying that to the already dynamic design and punchy performance of Mazda vehicles, the end result is nothing short of a well-crafted vision,” said Derek Jenkins, director, MNAO Design. “And because the stock models are extraordinarily versatile, who’s to say some elements of these SEMA concepts can’t be ready for public consumption?”

MX-5 Spyder

Beloved worldwide as the best-selling two-seat roadster in the world, with a secure spot in Guinness World Records to boot, the MX-5 Miata is the vehicle motorsports enthusiasts love to drive on the weekday streets of suburbia and the weekend roads of race tracks nationwide.
Well-known is the MX-5’s single-hand-operation soft-top and segment-best 12-second Power Retractable Hard Top (PRHT) that the MX-5 Spyder is a re-imagination of the roadster and features a sweeping, single-panel grenadine-red soft-top made by Haartz Corporation. Its design, a collaborative effort between MNAO Design and Magna Car Top Systems, offers an even lower slung stance of the MX-5 without sacrificing headroom. Fitted onto the roadster’s already sleek and sexy “look at me” body style, the MX-5 Spyder has been painted Stratosphere White and features a Yokohama rubber-and-rims set of AO48 225/45R17 performance tires matched with 17-inch, 10-spoke ADVAN RS wheels in Gun Metal Metallic. But as the adage goes, there is more than meets the eye.

Under the hood is where the vehicle’s exterior treat matches wits with an interior trick. Powered by Mazda’s ever-dependable MZR 2.0-liter engine, the MX-5 Spyder is fueled by BP’s isobutanol. The significance? The biofuel supports Mazda’s mantra of “Sustainable Zoom-Zoom,” which means crafting exciting, fun-to-drive vehicles that create minimal environmental impact. A testament to this philosophy is the Mazda/Dyson Racing entry in the American Le Mans Series. The #16 LMP1Lola vehicle features a turbocharged MZR-R 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, runs on isobutanol and beat competing larger-block V-12s to win the manufacturer, team and drivers championships for the 2011 racing season. Mazda also was given the Michelin® Green X® Challenge at the Baltimore Grand Prix, a distinction awarded to category cars that prove to be the “cleanest, fastest, most efficient” in the race.

Although similar to how ethanol is produced from agricultural feedstock, isobutanol does not compromise vehicle performance for the sake of fuel economy and can be added to the current fuel distribution infrastructure without requiring modifications in blending facilities, storage tanks and retail station pumps. Isobutanol’s compatibility with existing technology and infrastructures is a significant step toward meeting the demand in renewable fuels for transportation.

Another fuel-saving, engine-efficient feature of the MX-5 Spyder is a lightweight lithium-ion racing battery made by Braille Battery. The lead-free advanced battery system is RoHS compliant and constructed of non-hazardous materials, has a high charge retention and offers a longer life cycle than comparable standard batteries. A Racing Beat header, intake and exhaust muffler as well as a MAZDASPEED coil over kit and Brembo brakes complete the vehicle’s mechanics.

The cabin area is accentuated by tanned Saddle black-leather seats with Aqua leather accents and Coal Ash suede inserts. Subtle Spider Silk Gray Metallic-colored trim pieces on the doors and dash panels tastefully adorn the mostly black interior, which is finished off with customized floor mats by Star West. A MAZDASPEED short-throw shifter adds a tasty reminder to the MX-5’s motorsports pedigree.

Turbo2

When introduced to the North American market in 2010, the Mazda2 was referred to as Zoom-Zoom Concentrated. The Turbo2 can almost be defined as Zoom-Zoom Concentrated, Extra Strength. Outfitted with a MAZDASPEED3 MZR 2.3-liter Direct Injection Spark Ignition (DISI) turbo engine, the Turbo2 is as potent as it is practical.
Start the engine and the subcompact cat doesn’t purr – it growls. Its sinister snarl pulsates through the cockpit and injects itself into your rev-happy feet. A five-passenger subcompact with flexible storage and seating capacity, the Turbo2 leaves a small footprint but lives big.

Always known as the spunky little sport of the Mazda lineup, the Turbo2 adds to the Mazda2’s toss-me-around-and-you’ll-still-be-grinning attitude with an HR coil over suspension kit, Corksport sway bars and customized Brembo front brakes with 13-inch ventilated and slotted rotors. The rear brakes remain Mazda stock parts. Yokohama ADVAN Neova 215/40R17 performance tires are mounted onto shiny black 17-inch OZ Racing wheels.

The vibrant Sonic White tri-coat exterior features Brilliant Black on the lower panels, wheel arches, side skirts and lower front fascia. Unique bright green and neon yellow graphics and trim pieces further highlight the Turbo2’s compact and svelte physique. The exterior’s sunshine happy theme follows through into an interior commanded by Katzin black leather seats featuring Baracuda Yellow perforated leather inserts and Sunrise Yellow seat piping. Customized floor mats are by Star West and the dash is outfitted with an AiM Pista MXL digital racing performance and data acquisition display.

MX-5 Super20

Introduced during last year’s SEMA Show, the MX-5 Super20 is back and with a new ‘do, so to speak. Now blazing in a Hyper Orange Mica exterior treatment, the MX-5 Super20 retains its darker, edgier Mr. Hyde attitude in comparison to its more sociable Dr. Jekyll MX-5 Miata persona.

With its soft-top replaced with a stationary glossy black hardtop, and matching orange stripes, the MX-5 Super20’s interior also was modified and fitted with a color-matched roll bar, lending to a Grand Touring-inspired feel and function. The black leather seats feature suede seat inserts and channel stitching, which provide improved grip for drivers. Orange contrast stitching adds the finishing touch to the sporty seat profile.

Additional modifications include a DPTune reflashed ECU, Racing Beat 304-stainless steel header and exhaust, Racing Beat hollow front and rear anti-roll bars, ACT organic street clutch, MAZDASPEED coil overs and a shock tower brace, Power Slot slotted brake rotors, StopTech stainless steel brake lines and street performance brake pads, SpeedSource front brake ducts, black 16-inch Enkei RPF1 twin-spoke racing wheels, Toyo Proxes RA-1 245/45ZR16 high-performance tires and 20mm H&R Track+ bolt-on wheel spacers in the rear with 15mm Sparco wheel spacers in the front.

3dCarbon Mazda2

Sharing only the colorful spirit of green with its Turbo2 SEMA Show sibling, the 3dCarbon Mazda2 has an identity all its own. Its 3dCarbon/Air Design body kit is manufactured in high-pressure polyurethane injection molding and either pre-primer or pre-painted in all-factory colors. The customized body kit includes a front air dam, side skirts, a rear lower diffuser and Mazda2 Touring-spec upper rear spoiler.

The Spirited Green Metallic paint is further styled with a vinyl graphic design courtesy of Sticky Fingers Design. With darkly tinted windows, the small statured vehicle simply pops. 3M Color Stable Metal-Free Window Film is used on the side and rear windows while the front windshield features 3M Crystalline Nanofilm.

An Eibach® Springs Pro-Kit improves handling as well as visual appeal. Eighteen-inch FIVE:AD S6:F Gunmetal wheels wrapped with Yokohama S.drive 215/35R18 tires add the finishing touch.

Mazda5 Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca (MRLS) Support Vehicle

Infamous as a practically perfect people-hauler and un-famous as a race track icon, the Mazda5 MRLS Support Vehicle proves that mini-minivans can go racing, too. Developed by Mazda Design, this particular Mazda5 features lowering springs with height-adjustable perches – ideal for custom tuning to any performance situation. Menacing flat-black-painted 19-inch Mazda
RX-8 R3-spec forged aluminum wheels add to the street-turned-track look, complete with MRLS logo orange dots. Custom graphics highlighting the world-famous Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca racing circuit emblazon the Mazda5’s landscape as a nod to the orange theme continues – from the MRLS logo on the front doors, icons on the MRLS track map and a striking line along the side skirts – complete the racy package.

Roadster History

Song played on my Personal BGM: What a Fool Believes by Matt Bianco
From the Album: Samba In Your Casa

Since August 3, 2011, the NR-A Roadster Cup is added on Gran Turismo 5's Seasonal Events. There were bigger prizes await not just big money, but Racing Suits/Helmets (1st place), new exterior colors (2nd place) and new car horns (3rd place) are awaiting to players much like the other Seasonal Events that offer that kind of prize. Anyway, time to get sentimental because we're going to tackle the history of the Roadster. Three generations of Roadsters were offered in Gran Turismo 5 at all kinds but let's go over about these generations;

1) Eunos Roadster, we presented

The first Roadster (1989-1998)

The first Roadster (designated as NA) debuted in 1989 under the name, Eunos Roadster. which of course, Eunos is one of the brands from Mazda aside from Efini and Autozam back then. The Eunos Roadster was exported worldwide as the Mazda MX-5 Miata. It was hugely popular among enthusiasts because of such lightweight chassis. What I don't like about this car is the old, retractable headlamps.

Hunting the second-generation Roadster (MX-5 Miata) sounds more challenging and it may take a few days to get this model. Here in Gran Turismo, the second-generation Mazda Roadster/MX-5 Miata is powered with the BP-ZE 1.8L 4-cylinder engine that produces either 145/160ps of power. Because of the lightweight body, I guess the fun-to-drive factor is all it can do but not always. You need the right suspension setting to bring this Roadster's cornering to its full potential.

3) One car. One driver. One feeling.

The third Roadster (2005-present)

The world-class Roadster seems to be fitting well in GT5.

These are the three generations of the Mazda Roadster (MX-5 Miata) that are featured on Gran Turismo 5. Select the one you'll think it's the best on the NR-A Roadster Cup on Seasonal Events, and go for the win! If you're aiming on your next Racing Gear, go for first place! If you're aiming for the next exterior color for your car, go for 2nd place! If you want a new horn for your car, aim for 3rd place! This is just like any previous races that offer that kind of prizes. Go forth and win!

New Nissan Fairlady Z Roadster (370Z Roadster)

When Nissan's Infiniti division failed to place the G Convertible to Japan due to the crossover EX placed as the Nissan Skyline Crossover, the Japanese automaker has something to fill it up:

In celebration of the Z-car's 40th anniversary, Nissan has just dropped the top of its latest Z34 Fairlady Z (known worldwide as the 370Z) and it is ready to turn the tables against other convertibles from all over the world, including the Lexus IS250C. The new Z Roadster from Nissan throws excitement for Z fans, thanks to its stylish form that based from the Z34 Fairlady Z, which launched since December 2008 via Nissan Premium Factory, with the soft-top that can open or close in just 20 seconds, to bring the image of this sports car the striking personality it gets.

From the sexier exterior, the new Z Roadster has all the features that make owners delve deeper to the open car. Depending on the variant, the new Z Roadster is equipped with double wishbone front suspension, multilink rear suspension, front and rear ventilated brakes, 3.7-litre V6 VQ engine that delivers 336PS of power with 9.4km/L of fuel economy, HID headlamps, aluminum wheels, power steering, and ABS for improved braking. There are many features to mention on this majestic beast.

IS IT MIND-BLOWING ENOUGH TO BLOW THE COMPETITION?

The honest fact about the Z34 Fairlady Z's design was truly a Pinoy design, thanks to some Filipino designer, who hailed from Canada and educated in the United States, named Randy Rodriguez. Because of this, most Pinoy car enthusiasts cannot wait to hold their proud hands to the Z34's design that is mostly a Pinoy art. Even in its Roadster variant, this is truly the same Z design that carries the 40-year tradition alive and kicking. Everybody get ready because this latest Z Roadster is about to blow your minds everywhere.
