THREATS FROM NORTH KOREA: U.S. will not accept N. Korea's step-by-step denuclearization

Speaking at a nuclear conference hosted by the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace on Monday, Biegun put forward an all-or-nothing approach, insisting that the North has to remove all its weapons of mass destruction, including its chemical and biological weapons.

Biegun also pointed to the difficulties in negotiating with the North-- mainly stemming from the difference in the definition of the Yeongbyeon nuclear complex.

While the complex was defined as only containing plutonium facilities back in 2008 when the six-party talks were ongoing, the special envoy says North Korea has since built new uranium enrichment facilities.

He said the U.S. is demanding the removal of all dimensions of the nuclear fuel cycle and the nuclear weapons program, and highlighted the importance of a "complete declaration".

As for recent reports on new activity at the Dongchang-ri test site, Biegun says Washington is closely monitoring the rocket site.
He said he did not know whether the North Korean leader would decide to launch another missile.

For the first time since the Hanoi summit. North Korea has publicly stated it's still up for complete denuclearization.

The regime's propaganda outlet Uriminzokkiri reported Tuesday that North Korea firmly wants to establish new relations with the U.S., bring peace to the Korean Peninsula and move toward completely abandoning its nuclear arsenal.
The report also implied the North will keep communicating with the U.S.

A separate propaganda outlet DPRK Today released the same report.
These outlets aren't considered as official as state-run media like the Korean Central News Agency or the Rodong Sinmun but the reports are still grabbing attention as they're the first to show North Korea's stance about denuclearization since Hanoi.

UN experts are investigating potential violations of a ban on luxury goods exports to North Korea.

Citing a report to the UN Security Council, the Associated Press reported on the appearance in North Korea of luxury vehicles including Rolls-Royce Phantoms and Mercedes-Benz limousines.
These appearances include North Korean leader Kim Jong-un’s vehicle spotted last October when U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo visited Pyeongyang.

In addition, the report highlighted the North’s evasion of financial sanctions through cyberattacks.

The remains of Han Byung-goo a Korean War hero have been returned to his family today after sixty-nine long years.

This afternoon, the Defense Ministry's Agency for Killed-In-Action Recovery and Identification held a return ceremony at the home of Han's younger brother in Seoul.

The late private first class enrolled in the military in December 1950 at the young age of 18 to defend his country.

Han's remains were found in September 2016, but it took about two years to find the matching DNA from his family.

According to the recovery agency, there are some ten-thousand sets of remains yet to be identified .
The agency asked for public initiatives to help return these remains to their families.

Mitsubishi Delica D:5 (2019 minor change)

The Mitsubishi Delica has been one of the most dependable people carriers for five decades and the legacy continues with the latest version of the Delica D:5, the minivan that carries the Delica tradition of being tough, dependable, and versatile for the Japanese family. So, what's it all about the latest minor change for Mitsubishi's decade-old Delica minivan?

2019 Mitsubishi Delica D:5

Mitsubishi labels the latest Delica D:5 an all-new car but in reality, this is basically a big minor change to the model that has been on the road since 2007, as old as Hyundai's Grand Starex when it gained a minor change a while back, but longevity aside, the new Delica D:5 promises new and exciting ways for the Japanese family to experience while taking road trips to numerous prefectures on the weekends or holidays.

2019 Mitsubishi Delica D:5

There are two style variations the latest Delica D:5 such as the normal one which looks tough thanks to come SUV-like cladding while the new Urban Gear adds some minor aero stuff to make it more city focused but whichever Delica D:5 you're on, you are greeted by Mitsubishi's signature Dynamic Shield face that makes it more aggressive and sporty at every angle as well as its redesigned rear view for a more dramatic taste. Although odd-looking, the new shape really is the embodiment of Japanese minivans everywhere and it still works like every other minivan should.

On the inside, the redesigned interior of the Delica D:5 adds some freshness to one of Japan's most enduring minivans of this era and has plenty of room for family, friends, and relatives to make themselves while on the road. The eight-seater variants deliver the best out of its people carrier experience but those who want to get through the third-row seat easier in case all second-row seats are heavily occupied by child seats should be better off with the seven-seater variant. No matter the variant, the seats can be easily arranged for numerous purposes and provide a generous boot space for picnic stuff for the whole family to travel.

Being the only Japanese minivan at this age to be powered by a diesel engine, the Delica D:5 is powered only by a 2.2L Common Rail DI-D Clean Diesel engine that generates 145PS of power and 380Nm of torque while mated with an 8-speed Sports Mode AT, the fuel economy is about 12.6km/L on the WLTP scale. Apart from the engine that makes the Delica D:5 unrivaled, the optional 4WD with All Wheel Control makes the Delica D:5 capable of getting through tarmac, gravel, and snow. Word of advice that when in 2WD mode, most of the power is transferred to the front rather than to the back for stability purposes but when set to 4WD Lock, the Delica D:5 can be turned into a modest offroad minivan that can get through muddy and snowy roads and while it sounds too rough for a people carrier, the reinforced body and suspension setup really works its magic and that's something you can't do in your normal minivan.

As a certified Safety Support Car, the Delica D:5 is offered with Mitsubishi Safety Technology as well as e-Assist, making it a much safer car to travel from the beginning to the end of the day. Basic safety includes RISE body, SRS Airbags, ISO FIX, Multi-Around Monitor, Emergency Stop Signal, and others.

The Delica D:5 starts at 3,842,640 Japanese Yen (around $39,000) for the standard model while the Urban Gear starts at 4,067,280 Japanese Yen (around $40,700). So there we are, for a minivan as old as the Hyundai Grand Starex, the recently facelifted Delica D:5 continues to cater to today's Japanese families with its all-wheel drive capability, safety features, and versatile interior that makes it unrivaled.

THREATS FROM NORTH KOREA: US says North Korea diplomacy ‘very much alive,’ but watching rocket site

The chief U.S. envoy for North Korea said on Monday that “diplomacy is still very much alive” with Pyongyang despite a failed summit last month, but cautioned that Washington was closely watching activity at a North Korean rocket site and did not know if it might be planning a new launch.

Stephen Biegun told a conference in Washington that although U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un parted on good terms after their Feb. 27-28 summit in Hanoi, big gaps remained between the two sides and North Korea needed to show it was fully committed to giving up its nuclear weapons.

Biegun, the U.S. special representative for North Korea, stressed that U.S.-led sanctions, which Pyongyang wants dropped, would stay in place until North Korea completed denuclearization. He rejected an incremental approach sought by Pyongyang, and said that easing sanctions for partial steps would amount to subsidizing North Korea’s weapons programs.

As Biegun spoke at the Carnegie Nuclear Conference, the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) think tank issued a new report on activity at North Korea’s Sohae rocket launch site, in which satellite images from Friday showed possible preparations for a launch.

In the course of a nearly a year of diplomatic engagement with the United States, North Korea has maintained a freeze on missile and nuclear tests and space rocket launches in place since 2017. Trump has repeatedly stressed this as a positive outcome of the diplomacy.

Biegun said Washington did not know what the activity spotted in North Korea meant. He said the Trump administration took it “very seriously” but cautioned against drawing any snap conclusions.

“What Kim Jong Un will ultimately decide to do may very much be his decision and his decision alone,” Biegun said, adding that Trump had made clear last week he would be “very disappointed” if North Korea were to resume testing.

An authoritative U.S. government source familiar with U.S. intelligence assessments said they did not conclude that a launch was imminent, given North Korea’s apparent desire to keep negotiations going with the United States. However, the source said Pyongyang appeared to want to make clear it retained the capability to resume launches at any moment.

“Diplomacy is still very much alive,” Biegun said. He offered no specifics on when new talks might be held and did not say whether any talks had taken place since the summit, which collapsed over differences on U.S. demands for Pyongyang’s denuclearization and North Korea’s demand for sanctions relief.

ENGAGEMENT
“It’s certainly our expectation that we will be able to continue our close engagement,” Biegun said.

The State Department has declined to say whether there has been any direct engagement between the two sides since the summit.

Trump has said he remains open to more talks with Kim. U.S. Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security Andrea Thompson told the conference she thought there would be another summit, but no date has been set.

Asked if there would be a third meeting, she said Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Trump had “been very clear that they remain open to the dialogue. They haven’t got a date on the calendar but our teams continue to work toward that.”

Thompson said it was “incredibly important” that all countries continued to maintain U.N. sanctions on North Korea until it gave up its nuclear weapons.

“We are not letting the foot off the gas. We are going to continue with the pressure campaign.” she said.

At the White House on Monday, spokeswoman Sarah Sanders scoffed at reports that China was wary of holding a summit with Trump on trade after he walked out of his meeting with Kim without a deal.

“We’ll see what happens with North Korea the same way we’re going to see what happens in the negotiations with China. They’re ongoing,” she said.

Trump on Friday stressed again his belief in his personal rapport with Kim.

The CSIS report said commercial satellite images acquired last Wednesday and Friday showed North Korea had continued preparations on the launch pad at its Sohae launch facility and at the engine testing stand there.

“Based on past practices, these activities could be consistent with preparations for the delivery of a rocket to the launch pad or engine to the test stand; or they could be North Korean coercive bargain tactics,” it said.

Trump said after his first summit with Kim in Singapore last June that Kim had promised to dismantle the test stand, a pledge the North Korean leader reiterated and expanded on at a summit with South Korean President Moon Jae-in in September.

Pyongyang has used Sohae to launch satellites into space since 2011, and Washington says its work there has helped develop missile technology. A satellite launch in April 2012 killed off an Obama administration deal for a freeze in North Korean nuclear and missile testing reached weeks earlier.

THREATS FROM NORTH KOREA: Malaysia drops murder charge against Indonesian woman in Kim Jong Nam case

An Indonesian woman accused in the 2017 killing of the North Korean leader’s half-brother was released from custody on Monday after a Malaysian court dropped a murder charge against her.

After the court decision to release her, 26-year-old Siti Aisyah hugged her co-accused Doan Thi Huong, a 30-year-old Vietnamese woman, and cried.

The two women had been accused of poisoning Kim Jong Nam, the estranged half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, with liquid VX, a banned chemical weapon, at Kuala Lumpur airport in February 2017.

From the outset of the case, there were suspicions that Kim Jong Nam was the victim of plot arranged by North Korean agents who left Malaysia in the hours after the killing, and the two women had been merely pawns in a political assassination.

Siti Aisyah had been working as a masseuse in Kuala Lumpur, while Doan described herself as an entertainer.

“We still believe that she was merely a scapegoat,” Siti Aisyah’s lawyer, Gooi Soon Seng, told reporters.

“I still believe that North Korea had something to do with it.”

The trial of Siti Aisyah, 26, was suspended in December as her lawyers argued with prosecutors over access to statements made by seven witnesses.

Prosecutors told the court on Monday that they had been instructed to withdraw the charge against Siti Aisyah. No reason was given for the application.

Once the court released Siti Aisyah, she was immediately rushed to an elevator and was seen being escorted to an Indonesian embassy car waiting outside the courthouse.

While the court discharged Siti Aisyah from the case, it rejected her lawyer’s request for her to be fully acquitted, as it said that the trial had already established a prima facie case and she could be recalled it fresh evidence emerges.

NTT IndyCar Series 2019 - Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg

This year's IndyCar season is now named the NTT IndyCar Series with Japanese company NTT named as their title sponsor and expect this season to be the biggest IndyCar to date because of COTA and Laguna Seca included. But first, this year's IndyCar series began at the streets of St. Petersburg, Florida, for the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg race.

In the 2019 season opener of this newly named series, Will Power leads the start of the race but behind him, newcomer Felix Rosenqvist and Ryan Hunter-Reay nudged each other until the former Formula E driver guns against Josef Newgarden for 2nd. Last year's Firestone Grand Prix winner Sebastien Bourdais faces some mechanical failures at Lap 12 and he was therefore out of the race while smoke's poured at the back of Hunter-Reay's vehicle, triggering caution. When the race restarted, Rosenqvist, Will Power, and Josef Newgarden kept up the pressure while Ed Jones crashed on Turn 8 at Lap 26 as well as Matheus Leist.

Halfway through the race, Newgarden blitzes through the race and despite Scott Dixon's going all out to overtake Newgarden, that wasn't enough, therefore the driver of the #2 car representing Team Penske is named the winner. Will Power's placed 3rd.

2019 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series - TicketGuardian 500

The NASCAR Goes West continues at Arizona's ISM Raceway for the TicketGuardian 500 leg of the 2019 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series and seems like the Daylight Savings Time effect couldn't put off a good NASCAR race.

In a short but perfect summary about the TicketGuardian 500 race, Stage 1 sees a close fight between Chase Elliott and Ryan Blaney car while Erik Jones got skidded with a blown tire and Ryan Blaney takes the Stage win. In Stage 2, there's Alex Bowman experiencing some problems and Kyle Busch winning the stage. In the latter part of the race, there's Elliott got spun at Lap 219 and in the end of the race, Kyle Busch wins the TicketGuardian 500.

Although Busch faces some lug nut violation post-inspection, he's in the clear, therefore his win was maintained.

The next race will be at Auto Club Speedway for the Auto Club 400 this March 17th.
