Leopaul's Heaven and Hell: Car Smuggling...
One of the things that drives me up the wall in my life is car smuggling. A few years ago in the Philippines, the former president of the Philippines (sorry, I can't tell his/her name) destroyed smuggled luxury cars to teach those smugglers a lesson.

I think that even with government measures, car smuggling is still out there. Well, countries like the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia, even Pakistan, Sri Lanka, or Bangladesh, they always LOVE to smuggle cars. In the Philippines, well, we're obsessed with Korean cars. Let's put it an example; there was a new 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe was launched in South Korea but the official Hyundai distributor in the Philippines said they don't have plans to introduce it. Then, smugglers in the Philippines such as PITSTOP MOTORS or HANCARS, are trying to get their hands on the 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe.
In the Philippines, how come they tend to smuggle expensive sports cars like Aston Martin, Bentley, Lotus, or any other brand that wasn't been arrived in the Philippines?

Another example is the cars like the Toyota Alphard or Vellfire. In Malaysia, Toyota will not sell either the Alphard or Vellfire on that country but guess what? Malaysians love to smuggle those Alphard or Vellfire models! Not only that, MALAYSIANS love to smuggle other Japanese cars not sold in their country such as the Toyota Harrier or the Honda Elysion! Same case here in Thailand or Indonesia, well the Alphard is available on those countries but not the Vellfire. Even when the Toyota Vellfire was not available in Thailand or Indonesia, they tend to smuggle one for keeps! Isn't that annoying?
There's another example of those car smuggling fiasco though. Remember the Toyota Caldina? It's the JDM sport wagon we really love but it's gone when it was discontinued in 2007. That car wasn't intended to be sold outside Japan but what's a Caldina doing in Russia, Malaysia, or Australia? I'm afraid that's SMUGGLED. A smuggled Caldina! How awful was that? A car that was never intended to be sold outside its home market gets smuggled by idiots from different countries.
I really hate car smugglers. Don't you agree? Well, according to the Bureau of Customs, Motor Vehicles were no. 3 of the top 5 goods that were carefully monitored. The first was oil, resins were second, steel were fourth, and 5th was ceramics. How can you spot a smuggled car? Well, it takes paperwork and a few evidence to figure it out if a car was smuggled or not and that's a bit too boring for a process so, how can you figure it out of a new car was smuggled or not? There are so many answers to tell but for the fun of it; the only thing to figure it out if the car was smuggled is the car that is NOT available in your country. Like I said, there are examples such as the Toyota Vellfire. Yes, it's not available in Malaysia but the question is, what's that Toyota Vellfire doing in the streets of Malaysia? There is only one answer; IT'S SMUGGLED! How about the Hyundai Veloster perhaps? Sure, it's not available in the Philippines because of its GDi engine won't work in that country but question is....what's that doing in the Philippines? HARI said they're not selling it you know. I'm afraid that it's SMUGGLED. SMUGGLED, SMUGGLED, SMUGGLED! Why would idiots prefer to smuggle some cars that are not available in the Philippines? Has the Bureau of Customs losing the fight?
I once read an article from the Top Gear Philippines website, when the moment Noynoy Aquino because the Philippine president, the car industry has their own wish list and the two of these were one of my favorites such as this....

Besides the questionable conversion from right-hand to left-hand drive, these gray-market importers have no facilities, they don't pay the correct taxes, they artificially inflate the figures of newly-registered cars in the Land Transportation Office. Wait a minute...Mr. Taizo Furuhashi from Mitsubishi Motors Philippines said that importation of used cars must be stopped? Sounds convincing but how come some idiots keep on smuggling used cars from Japan, America, and other countries? Who would even smuggle a used car not available in the Philippines? (laughing) And wait! What Mr. Greg Yu from CATS Motors said? Someone told me that his ex-fiance's dad drove a Hummer in the Philippines and he said that car is legal. Really? Remember, there wasn't a Hummer distributor in the Philippines. Remember Gerald Anderson's Hummer revealed to be smuggled? Remember Willie Revilliame's Ferrari revealed to be smuggled? Yep, true stories because these cars are not available in the Philippines and this is trespassing. It's like jumping over the border and that's unlawful. You know what to do when you see a smuggled car? Well, destroy it, just like during the Arroyo years in the Philippines! (laughing)
Let that be a lesson. For those idiots in the Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and other countries that were addicted to car smuggling; NO CAR SMUGGLING, PLEASE. Smuggled cars don't comply to their local laws.

An unknown French exotic only you can find in Gran Turismo

What we're looking up here is a car we really don't know what that is. I just really REALLY don't know what in the world is this car is and this is the only car you can find in the world of Gran Turismo. Some say, this is the Hommell Berlinette, a car we really don't know because it was first appeared in GT4 and then always a Gran Turismo-only car that no one ever heard of or tasted it.
Strictly speaking, we really never heard of Hommell but some say, Gran Turismo invented this carmaker but (laughing) you were wrong folks. Hommel was a small French carmaker, founded in the 90's by Michel Hommell, a former racing driver and the owner of Échappement, a French car magazine. Sadly, nobody remembered what are the cars made by Hommell and neither can I even though in the end of 2003, Hommell is gone for good and even though Chinese investors wanted to buy the plans for the Berlinetta Hommell to be produced near Shanghai for the local market in 2005, nobody responded. Sorry folks, this French carmaker, Hommell, is remained unknown to many. Now, why would a carmaker nobody know was there in the first place?
Anyway, the Hommell Berlinette...What is it? Well, for starters, the concept version was showcased at the 1990 Paris Motor Show with much positive feedback, leading it to a 1994 production. Originally, this comes with the 2.0L engine you can normally find in a Peugeot 406 (?) mated with a 6-speed gearbox but later it comes with a more powerful Citroen engine on it. This generates almost 170HP of power, it can go 0-60 in under eight seconds and flat-out it will do about 143-ish miles per hour, although no exact information was found in the history books because the Hommell Berlinetee will always exist in the Gran Turismo universe, unless you want to time travel back to the year this carmaker was founded to learn more. Allons-y!
Because this car weighs just about almost a ton, what I'm looking about the Berlinette's power-to-weight ratio of about...oh dear, almost 180HP/ton. Sure, this car is light, agile, and has a mild cornering feel, but I'm afraid that the Berlinette wasn't quick either even though it comes with a 6-speed close-ratio gearbox.
So then....this unknown French car is not good and it's not a proper alternative to the Lotus Elise...Sorry...

Yeah, kinda looked the same as the Z4 Zagato concept. Anyway, let's leave the Pebble Beach story behind us and here's some of my story. While my sisters Elise and Bea took their time from Mr. Sam Wong's driving school and passed their driving test, I just heard that my cousin, Mia, took the driving test in a hurry! How come I didn't scheduled hastily for that? Mia hurried for the driving test even though she never get some driving school lessons because she learned how to drive in the Philippines?
Maybe because she's in a desperate need of a driver's license like you?

I think yes. For her, she doesn't need a help from driving school because she knows how to drive. Sadly though, I was stuck for the $90 per lesson driving school, hindering my hope for a 5-year driver's license.
Oh. So how's the status for your cousin who thinks she doesn't need a driving school and rushed for the actual test?

For previous seven generations, the Chevrolet Malibu remains to be the only American car I didn't like, probably because the styling's a bit too boring, a bit too dull, a bit too American. Yep, I didn't like the Malibu because it's too American. Because the new Malibu uses GM Epsilon II platform, the one you can normally find it on the Buick Regal perhaps, you can expect the Euro Ride Suspension best served so you can expect better handling and drives like a European sports saloon of some kind perhaps. Thumbs up to that.
Safety? Hmmm...the 2013 Malibu has standard safety features such as the dual-stage front airbags, side-impact and knee airbags, and roof rail airbags with rollover protection. The all new 2013 Chevrolet Malibu is now a global midsize sedan and it's no longer too American. What I'm looking now is a business phenomenon and even though it's an American midsize sedan that competes against the Kia K5, Hyundai Sonata, Toyota Camry, Honda Inspire, Subaru Legacy B4, Peugeot 508, Renault Latitude, Citroen C5, Volkswagen Passat, and others from this category, I find that I really want to drive the latest Malibu some more but...let's not get excited just yet because The Covenant Car Company has no plans to bring the new Malibu to the Philippines yet even though this is a global car that is sold in South Korea, China, USA, and Europe yet. Don't even try to smuggle one or Mr. Ruffy Biazon will find you because you've smuggled one. That's it.

Breaking news! On the 2012 Pebble Beach Concours D'Elegance, Ford revealed what it's said to be a tribute to the late tuning and racing legend Carroll Shelby. The Carroll Shelby Tribute car from Ford - Shelby GT500 Cobra Wide Body was unveiled and here are the pics courtesy of the official Carroll Shelby Facebook fan page...
Ford said that this is a one-off special and it is currently on display at the Monterey Motorsports Reunion this weekend, and Shelby says that they plan to tour the car around the country for the next several months before it will be auctioned off for charity.

Turn 10 tries rob some cars that are highly sacred to the Gran Turismo franchise. We now have the 787B, RUF CTR2, Scion FR-S, and this one. I mean, what's next? Stealing other Gran Turismo-famed cars such as the Xsara, Hommell, Nissan R92CP, Ford Mark IV, XJ13, XJR9, Chaparral Cars, Pescarolo, Tommykaira ZZ, the old RUF RGT, 3400S, Honda Insight, the Audi R8 (take note, the Le Mans Prototype one), classic Isuzu cars, classic Mitsubishis, rally raid cars, Panoz Esperante GTR1, the Toyota 7 Race Car, GT-R LM Road Going Car, Minolta Toyota, Lister Storm, and even forgotten ones like the Venturi Atlantique or the Vector M12?

Sure, Forza Motorsport has less cars than Gran Turismo but their cars are better than theirs because they've only focused on the best models rather than cars with several trim levels. Compare that to those costumes we saw on THE IDOLM@STER 2. We thought that they're going to be the same but they're different. The XBOX 360 version of THE IDOLM@STER 2 has better costume and accessories lineup than the ones we saw on the PS3 version, I mean costumes like the Stratos Butterfly, Burning Performer, White School Swimsuit, Cutie Insect, Rainy Suzuran, Dressy Alice, Random Color Beauty, and Digital Spacecraft, these are the DLC costumes that you can't find it on the XBOX 360 version. Guess what? These are the costumes only fit for idiots living the life outside the TARDIS.

Now, for justice served, Robert Blair Carabuena was suspended from his work and his driver's license has been revoked. But the investigation is pending so it should be taking a while.

That's right. And oh, this is a motor show, can I have just one simple suggestion, one simple suggestion for the good of a certain motor show visitor. NO GIRLS please. Please don't take pictures of girls posing next to the car. Take pictures only of cars and your friends or family as necessary. That's right. Don't take pictures of girls posing next to cars. That's annoying, we don't want that to happened.

Now anyway, about the new action drama titled Arrow, that was loosely based on DC Comics’ Green Arrow, which centers on billionaire playboy Oliver Green, who, after spending five years shipwrecked on an island, returns home and assumes a secret vigilante identity to make amends and fight the ills of society. Some say, the actor who was Captain Jack on Doctor Who will be playing as a “well-dressed man who is as mysterious as he is wealthy … he is an acquaintance of the Queen family and a prominent figure in Starling City.”
Oh...well, that's fine for celebrities who have lives outside the TARDIS. Speaking of which, there's been a hype going around the US Special Screening of the Series 7 opener of Doctor Who, titled Asylum of the Daleks. In fact, the hype is as high as the galaxy, tickets have been officially been sold out! Too bad for those who missed the chance but hey, I'd never realize that American nerds really loved this British sci-fi series. No wonder this show doing so well.
Ah...While I missed the chance of being one of the lucky few to see The Doctor, Amy, and Rory face off against the Daleks, I was surprised by this and speaking of which, let's move on to something a bit shocking...

This is another one of Gran Turismo cars robbed by Forza for DLC purposes. In February 2012, the Mazda 787B, a car that is highly sacred in the Gran Turismo series, was stolen by Forza Motorsport 4 so it can be placed in the ALMS Pack. July 2012, sees another Gran Turismo car robbed by Turn 10, which is the RUF CTR2 via the July Car Pack. And now, August Playseat Car Pack sees Turn 10 stealing another Gran Turismo cars such as the Scion FR-S, which translates to Toyota GT86 for Americans, and this! The Sauber Mercedes C9 Race Car! I know, most of our Japanese players complaining that what the heck the Sauber Mercedes C9 is doing on Forza 4. Is it because they want to see the interior of the Sauber C9 that Gran Turismo can't? Is it because Forza's Sauber C9 sounds better than the GT's Sauber C9? Or is it because some idiots demanded that this car should be on this game? Nobody knows but...SPOILERS!
Anyway, what is it then, this Sauber C9? The latest victim of notable Gran Turismo cars robbed by Turn 10 for DLC purposes?
As part of the Sauber-Mercedes partnership, this Group C prototype was introduced in 1987 and since its debut, the cars were run by Kouros Racing, named after the fragrance brand of its sponsor, Yves Saint Laurent, although officially backed by Mercedes-Benz. A year later, Kouros was dropped as a sponsor, forcing the team to be renamed Sauber Mercedes, and therefore, they've used EG-Olympia as a sponsor – AEG being owned by Daimler-Benz at the time. They tried to get second in the championship behind Silk Cut Jaguar with five wins for the season but the team stroke several problems when they were forced to withdraw due to concern over their Michelin tires.
Its first success can be traced back to the 1989 24 Hours of Le Mans, where the #63 C9 driven by Jochen Mass, Manual Reuter, and Stanley Dickens, achieved a win. During qualifying for Le Mans, the C9, with its Mercedes-Benz M119 4,973 cc (303.5 cu in) HL 90º 5.0L Turbo V8 engine with two KKK turbos, achieved 248.0 mph (400 km/h) at the Mulsanne Straight of Le Mans. Aside from its Le Mans success, the Sauber C9 earned pole position in the first round of the 1988 World Sports Car Championship and went on to win five out of 12 races that year. The Sauber C9 earned its nickname "Silver Arrow", which harks back to the feared moniker that traced back to Mercedes-Benz and Auto Union GP cars.
Two Sauber C9s made a 1-2 finish at the 1989 World Sports Car Championship at Suzuka Circuit and 2-3 in Dijon.
The C9's records were; 21 races participated, 13 races won, 7 pole positions, and 5 fastest lap times. Notable drivers include Jochen Mass, Manuel Reuter, Stanley Dickens, Mauro Baldi, Kenny Acheson, Gianfranco Brancatelli, Jean-Louis Schlesser, Jean-Pierre Jabouille, and Alain Cudini.

There are cars from Gran Turismo that we don't want to be featured on Forza such as the Xsara, Hommell, Nissan R92CP, Ford Mark IV, XJ13, XJR9, Chaparral Cars, Pescarolo, Tommykaira ZZ, the old RUF RGT, 3400S, Honda Insight, the Audi R8 (take note, the Le Mans Prototype one), Isuzu cars, classic Mitsubishis, rally raid cars, Panoz Esperante GTR1, the Toyota 7 Race Car, GT-R LM Road Going Car, Minolta Toyota, Lister Storm, and even forgotten ones like the Venturi Atlantique or the Vector M12. I really don't want that to happen because it could be somewhat TIMEY-WIMEY. WIBBLY WOBBLY TIMEY WIMEY STUFF!
Anyway, let's see if we can push this latest victim of notable Gran Turismo cars robbed by Turn 10 for DLC purposes around the Top Gear track...

So, the Ford Crown Victoria, the king of cop cars, is gone and American policemen are on a shopping spree for the next generation of cop cars but the question is, which of the new generation of cop cars is the best? I've once watched the Police Cars (S03E01) episode of American Top Gear to find the answer. Tanner Foust, being a Ford guy, drives a 2013 Ford Police Interceptor while Adam Ferrera drives a Dodge Charger Pursuit and Rutledge Wood drives the Chevrolet Caprice PPV, a police-only version of the car imported from Australia.
Here's a quick sum-up:
- The Ford Police Interceptor has a quicker 0-100mph time than the Caprice and the Charger and it has greater stopping power from 100mph to zero against those.
- Chevrolet Caprice PPV doesn't have the strength to endure tear gas attacks that suffocate officers on the inside.
- Lastly, the Ford Police Interceptor's makes the police officer sitting next to you having a hard time shooting the targets. Caprice PPV and the Dodge Charger Pursuit can do better, well Charger Pursuit's not quite good enough for the donuts part...well, doing donuts while eating donuts.
The 2013 Ford Police Interceptor wins the challenge and hey, there's nothing even better than having a Corvette Z06 Police Car race against a quick motorcycle from the warehouse to the bridge, where the Z06 Police Car defeated the motorbike at the end.

And now the news! Now, with the recently launched Nissan Serena C26 S-HYBRID, Nissan collaborates with video game maker, Square Enix, to make a special car themed around the Dragon Quest franchise. The Serena S-Hybrid mini van is being given a coat of Slime. Heard of it? Slime from the Dragon Quest series! The smart simple hybrid minivan teams up with one of the leading Japanese RPG's of all time for a special itasha! Not only that, those who test drive the Serena S-HYBRID will receive Dragon Quest presents courtesy of Nissan and Square Enix. How cool was that?
Anyway, on the Toyota side; AMLUX, a shopping mall for all things Toyota will be hosting a special event packed with the world famous virtual idol, HATSUNE MIKU. This event will be titled 39's CARAVAN presents Natsu Matsuri (summer festival) 2012 in Amlux. It begins on August 27 to September 23, 2012 in Auto Salon Amlux Tokyo and there's going to be Toyota cars decorated with all things Miku, especially the all new 2013 Toyota Corolla E160 range. Don't forget that the Prius Alpha and the Aqua were present as well.
