Forza Motorsport 6: Celebrating Lexus' 10th anniversary since its Japan launch

The year 2015 isn't about celebrating ten years of the Forza franchise, it's also celebrating the tenth anniversary of Lexus' Japan launch. It was late August 2005 when Toyota introduced Lexus to the Japanese market with the IS, GS, and SC. Hard to believe it's already been ten years, huh? So much stuff happening in the world are in their tens this year but let's not talk about those, okay?

Anyway, I'll honor Lexus' 10 years of Japanese sales with a selection of Lexus vehicles lapping round the Top Gear track on Forza Motorsport 6. Remember, only the Lexus cars offered in Japan since 2005. I'm not going to send the old 1997 Lexus SC300 here because apparently, it's only a Toyota Soarer offered in Japan and Lexus hasn't been introduced in Japan yet although the Lexus brand was offered to the world market. Only focus on the Lexus-branded cars offered in Japan.

isf

The Lexus IS F, a potent version of the second-generation IS, the first Lexus IS offered to the Japanese market since Lexus was introduced in Japan in 2005. It signalled the birth of Lexus' F division that would combat the likes of BMW's M division, Mercedes-AMG, and Audi's quattro GmbH, responsible for their RS models. Launched in the end of 2007, the IS F was powered by a 5.0L direct injected 2UR-GSE V8 engine producing 423PS of power and 503Nm of torque. It was mated with an 8-speed paddle shift transmission.

lfa

The Lexus LFA, the pinnacle of Lexus' pursuit of perfection. With 500 units built from its two-year lifespan, the LFA comes with Japan's first ever V10 engine producing 552HP of power and 354lb-ft of torque. Even with production has ended three years ago, the LFA is a legendary JDM supercar in its own right.

gs

The GS 350 F Sport. On its fourth-generation, the Lexus GS wants to be a serious competitor to BMW's 5-Series, Mercedes-Benz's E-Class, and Audi's A6. It's the first Lexus to introduce the Spindle Grille, which became a trademark to present-day and future Lexus models.

is

The IS350 F Sport. On its third-generation, the IS introduced a much radical evolution of Lexus' L-Finesse design philosophy and it gave us a much rakish look of the luxury brand's signature Spindle Grille.

rcf

And finally, the RC F. Using Lexus' involvement in the world of Super GT, the RC F is made to take on the race track thanks to its improved version of the 5.0L V8 derived from the IS F as well as other track-essential improvements that will keep it more potent in track days.

Now, most of the Lexus models are here to celebrate 10 years of Lexus' Japanese launch, and in honor of such ubiquitous occasions because 10 is becoming a lucky number for the year 2015, these Lexuses are ready to take on the Top Gear track, using whatever means necessary to attain the quickest lap.

All right, let's show them what they can do. For Lexus' 10th anniversary of Japanese sales!

The results:
1:26.418 - ISF
1:22.407 - LFA
1:30.713 - GS 350
1:33.250 - IS 350
1:27.047- RCF

Well, I have to say, these cars did a heck of a job honoring Lexus' 10th anniversary of Japanese sales and even though they did very well setting lap times, looks like the Lexus most Japanese will remember for for the past ten years of tenure is the Lexus LFA because it's the Japanese supercar that defined the breed and set the template for Lexus' F models for many years to come.

The RC F may not be a decent heir to the LFA but because of its circuit-based knowledge thanks to its involvement in the Super GT series, it tries to stay true to its AMAZING IN MOTION slogan. Only problem is when I took this one off, it ended up lapped slower than the IS F even though it has more power and that's definitely because this car's heavier than the IS F, I presume.

Onto the normal models like the GS350 and the IS350, feels like they're way much of a different league when compared against its German rivals but they're not half bad to impress its owners with its dynamics. Sure they maybe luxury cars but they felt like they're becoming as sporty as it hoped for...well, sorta.

If I had to pick which is the best Lexus for 10 years, my best pick would be the LFA because even though its production has ceased, its fame has been elevated as a cult classic, a legend in its own right.

It's an honor to celebrate Lexus' 10th anniversary since its Japan launch.

Spectators enjoying last weekend's Singapore GP of the F1 2015 season is like a plot twist of their favorite show because with Lewis Hamilton retired at the 33rd lap due to some failures with his F1 car, looks like Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel scored himself another win for this season. Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo placed 2nd and Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen placed 3rd. This is the first time the Ferrari F1 team taste a double podium finish since two years ago.

Onto the overall standings, Hamilton's still in the lead with 252 points, Rosberg's in 2nd with 211, and Vettel, thanks to his latest win, is now eight points behind Rosberg's.

The next race is set at Suzuka, Japan, on the 27th of September.

Forza Motorsport 6: Know your Bond Car - Aston Martin DBS

MI6 Tanner to Forza 6 players,

As you may know, some of the Bond Cars recorded from the MI6's Q-Branch have been featured in Forza Motorsport 6, the latest installment in the highly-successful Forza franchise available exclusively on the XBOX One. I'll be briefing you with some of the most iconic Bond Cars featured in FM6.

dbs

Today's Bond car is the Aston Martin DBS, which is featured in two Bond films such as Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace, as well as Bond games such as Blood Stone and 007 Legends, driven by James Bond actor Daniel Craig.

The DBS is essentially a high-performance version of the DB9 and although it uses the same V12 engine the DB9 carries, the DBS develops about 510HP of power and 569Nm of torque. 0-60 takes about 4.3 seconds and a top speed of 191 mph (307 km/h) and 183 mph (295 km/h) with Aston Martin's TOUCHTRONIC 2 transmission.

There is a well-known tidbit about the DBS when it was featured in Daniel Craig's first Bond movie, Casino Royale, back in Autumn 2006, regarding the scene where Bond violently swerves to avoid Vesper Lynd and then accidentally rolled over seven times. The stunt drivers rehearse the scene using a second-hand BMW which is easier to roll but when they provided a prototype model, in the form of a modified DB9, they figured out that its aerodynamics made it difficult to roll. One person suggested that they should fit a cannon somewhere...and it did. By the time the Aston was totalled, it had set a new record for the most number of rolls in a car stunt.

Two years later in Quantum of Solace, Ben Collins, who was The Stig on Top Gear back then, is hired as a Bond stunt driving instructor and he was a double for Daniel Craig in the opening high-speed chase.

When Daniel Craig was not in the middle of Bond movies before Skyfall, he and the DBS were involved in Bond games as well. In the 2010 Bond game, Blood Stone, the DBS was featured in driving missions involving chasing against a suicide bomber targeting the Acropolis, where the world leaders are stationed for a meeting, chasing down rogue industrialist Stefan Pomerov in Siberia, and chasing down Nicole Hunter, played by singer Joss Stone, in a climactic car chase from Monaco to the Millau Viaduct. Two years later, in 007 Legends, the DBS takes place from the V12 Vanquish on a chase through Gustav Graves' cargo plane in Die Another Day.

dbs

When the DBS was featured in Top Gear, The Stig set a lap time of 1:23.93, which is faster than the old Aston Martin V12 Vanquish S. We decided to give it to one of our experts and have it compared against its real-world lap time set by The Stig.

Sadly, our expert from Q-Branch couldn't beat The Stig's lap time because he did it in 1:26.364, which is around three seconds slower than The Stig's.

Doctor Who S09E01

The ninth series of the BBC hit TV series, Doctor Who, is now on air with Peter Capaldi as The Doctor and Jenna Coleman as Clara Oswald. You'll find out at the right moment but in the meantime, the first of the two-part premiere.

In the first part, titled The Magician's Apprentice, two of the most notorious Doctor Who villains returned such as the creator of the Daleks, Davros, and Missy, played by Michelle Gomez. Here, viewers witnessed Davros' secret origins and his bitter connections between him and The Doctor shocked everyone and they'll be expected to be shocked more in the conclusion next week. Can't believe why they've dragged them to the rogue planet of Skaro just to meet Davros but you can expect more bombshell next week.

Speaking of which, viewers witnessed The Doctor donning his shades during an axe fight with a warrior, who turned out to be a Dalek. If by axe fight...why bringing a guitar and a tank on such a battle? Oh wait, just to make him look cool.

Forza Motorsport 6: Know your Bond Car - Aston Martin DB5

MI6 Tanner to Forza 6 players,

As you may know, some of the Bond Cars recorded from the MI6's Q-Branch have been featured in Forza Motorsport 6, the latest installment in the highly-successful Forza franchise available exclusively on the XBOX One. I'll be briefing you with some of the most iconic Bond Cars featured in FM6.

db5

This is the Aston Martin DB5, undoubtedly one of the most iconic Bond cars ever made since its appearance in the 1964 Bond film Goldfinger, where Bond must prevent an economic meltdown by taking on the nefarious Auric Goldfinger. In the movie, Q-Branch given the DB5 some modifications include a smokescreen, oil slicks, machine guns, mechanical tire shredders, and an ejector seat. 007 makes use of all of the DB5's gadgets until he crashed the DB5 somewhere at Auric Headquarters in Switzerland.

When Goldfinger was shown in theaters in the Autumn of 1964, it became a box office hit and production of the DB5 have doubled to keep up the demand, sparking a wonderful collaboration between Aston Martin and James Bond. The DB5's recent appearance was 2012's Skyfall, featuring Daniel Craig as James Bond.

There is a known trivia that when the Bond makers wanted this car to be in that film, Aston Martin rejected the idea. They will lend their car for a full price of 4,500 Pounds back in 1960's but the Bond creators decided not to because it's too expensive. They tried various cars fit for Bond but because of their desire of putting the Aston Martin in the Bond movie, the folks lend them a second-hand development car and the Bond people cost them five times more than the car itself to rig it with the Bond modifications.

The DB5 is powered by a 4.0L six-cylinder engine generating 282 bhp (210 kW) of power and a top speed of 145 mph (233 km/h). It was mated with a ZF five-speed transmission (except for some of the very first DB5s).

A total of 1,023 DB5 units produced, with most of the units are hardtop coupes.

db5 (2)

We asked someone if they can do a lap round the Top Gear Test Track just to prove how good the DB5 was but because it was raining outside, we weren't so sure what to do with it. However, our client insists that because this is Forza Motorsport 6, he's very obliged to do his first ever wet lap on the Top Gear Track. Here's the clip that sums everything up...

Our client set a lap time of 1:39.524 on a wet track and by our amazement, even in wet conditions, our client handled better than what Top Gear's The Stig done in the TV show.

Forza Motorsport 6: The new Roadster

The all-new, fourth-generation, Mazda Roadster or MX-5 is one of the must-have cars of 2015 and here we are, in the world of Forza, got to try out the latest Roadster in one of the world's finest race tracks just for the fun of it.

Here in Forza Motorsport 6, players can get to know more about the latest version of the Mazda Roadster/MX-5 not just by observing every detail inside and out but also getting to know how its newly-found dynamics work in the racetracks, be it dry, wet, or dark. Once again, we are driving the fourth-generation Roadster, in-game, powered by a SKYACTIV-G 2.0L petrol engine that the Japanese market never had at launch. Looks like the Japanese Forza fans will wistfully listen to its SKYACTIV-G 2.0L engine sound via ForzaVista because this engine is not available for the new Roadster up to know. Only the world market had the chance to drive it because that's what it came from Mazda's dossier.

Be that in mind that even though this is a 2.0L engine, it's still reasonably small, and thanks to SKYACTIV-CHASSIS and SKYACTIV-BODY applied to this new Roadster, it still retains the classic Roadster formula, valuing aerodynamics over performance, as well as delivering its nimble and yet accessible dynamics everyone can master. Enjoy this car as much as you want because the new Roadster is still one of the most enjoyable cars to drive in Forza Motorsport 6.

Speaking of enjoyable, since this is Forza Motorsport 6, I decided to give this new Roadster a Top Gear Power Lap round the Top Gear Test Track. See if how much fun this new Roadster can do...

So, how's the new Roadster at the track? Well, it did set a lap time of 1:36.792. Not the fastest it has ever done but this track demonstrated how good the new Roadster is and I am very happy to taste one of Mazda's latest masterpieces. Ah the joys of driving the Mazda with SKYACTIV Technology in-game...
