This biopic takes us to an untold story of Judy Garland, giving would-be historians a fresh take on a legendary actress known for such roles.

Starring Renee Zellweger as Judy Garland, this powerful and thought-provoking biopic takes us more on her life and times as “the world’s greatest entertainer” as she deals with her ever-struggling career, her questionable love life, and her dreams.

It is powerful, riveting, enrapturing, and Oscar-worthy because of numerous praise the critics gave on this film.

Kaguya-Sama: Love Is War (2019 film)

At the start of 2019, anime fans got blown away by the hilarious rollercoaster ride of the anime series titled Kaguya-sama: Love Is War and while fans can’t get the whole insanely fun love story out from their heads, some might be displeased because the live-action movie adaptation of the same name easily overshadowed the anime by whatever reasons known only to themselves.

Kaguya-Sama: Love Is War

Starring King & Prince member Sho Hirano as Miyuki Shirogane and Kanna Hashimoto as yours truly, Kaguya Shinomiya, among many others, this live-action adaptation is just like the anime everyone watched at the start of 2019; it's about two leaders of the student council got entangled in an all-out war on who gets to confess their love first.

The anime version has jam-packed with overall insanity that made them burst into laughter whereas the live-action film takes a more realistic approach. You won't find any insanity from the anime in here because despite being too toned down, it still pulls a proper comedic approach that brings moviegoers to a whole new meaning of love and war. As a matter of fact, like most live action movie adaptations, the Kaguya-sama film can easily crush its anime counterpart so the next time when you woke up to bed and finding out what's it all about Kaguya-sama, chances are that the live-action film will pop-up first and that's it.

Mina-Anud

What happens when your beach outing becomes a life-risking moment you can't run away from? Inspired from true events, the latest offering from Regal Entertainment and EPIC Media, will showcase the wet, wild, and consequentially dangerous life of three boys whose beach getaway turned into a life-risking moment they will never get away forever.

Mina-Anud
Mina-Anud (The Tide is High) marks the directoral debut of Cebuano Kerwin Go and it stars Dennis Trillo, Jerald Napoles, and the special participation of Matteo Gudicelli, among many others. In this film, it's about a beach in Eastern Samar where residents encountered piles of cocaine washed up here and this is where three fun-loving young men got into this mess.

Truly hilarious in a dark comic way, Mina-Anud is a film that takes us to the wet, wild, and dangerous beach getaway where sex, chaos, and drugs overshadowed the tropical landscape. This film really makes moviegoers twist their heads from the twisted storyline it delivers and upon watching this film from start to finish, Mina-Anud really showcases the shocking reality of lifestyle today's men jumped into; life-risking lifestyles that will make them burn faster when they catch fire.

The shocking depiction of a beach getaway Mina-Anud delivers truly is relevant but with a dark humor and mild drama lurking through this hot Pinoy film of the year, it's no wonder the whole Filipinos got crashed and burned by this film ever since it became the closing film of this year's Cinemalaya and now, moviegoers will experience a new kind of tide rising. It is twisted, crazy, and downright lairy, much like what men do today.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood

Quentin Tarantino, the mastermind of violent films known the world over since Kill Bill, has manned up this time with 9th film that brings the biggest cast ever assembled in to the twilight of the Golden Age of Hollywood.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
With Hollywood's big names such as Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio assembled into the ninth film made by writer-director Quentin Tarantino, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood takes viewers to a pseudo-historical recreation of Los Angeles in the year 1969, the final moments of Hollywood's Golden Age, where a TV star and his longtime stunt double made their way to Hollywood. All that stardom in the town of make-believe comes with a hefty price.

On the road to becoming one of the master-class films not just the rest of the Summer movie season but for this year, this film made by the mastermind of violent films takes a more dramatic and realist approach to create a master stroke of a pseudo-historical masterpiece that will enrapture the viewers from beginning to the end, delivering a perspective worthy of an Oscar and numerous praises.

Getting glued into this pseudo-historical film depicting the golden age of cinema is somewhat of a challenge but as viewers get to know about the real struggles in the Golden Age of Hollywood, they'll know what this film is all about. It's everything they want to get to know about the rise of Tinseltown in a thought-provoking perspective that will surely believe that this is one of the most dramatic films of the year.

Moments later, Kara and Mia celebrated their birthday with their family and friends at home.

Elise (movie)

Valentines comes into full throttle as Regal Entertainment shifts gear into the month of love with the most noteworthy rom-com movie event of 2019, bringing Enchong Dee and Janine Gutierrez in the hot seat as they buckle themselves up for the feel good rom-com film titled Elise.

Elise

In this month-of-love offering by Regal Entertainment, this rom-com is about Bert (played by Enchong Dee) who falls in love with Elise (Janine Gutierrez) but then separated to pursue their studies only to meet again as time goes by.

Strapping yourselves to the hot seat of Elise, the experience of watching this coming-of-age rom-com movie is somewhat good for people who are bittersweet this month of love and whether if you are going full throttle or under the speed limit of what lies ahead on this film, this rom-com always tread lightly but carefully with its slight sense of humor, emotional feedback, drama, and the chemistry it delivers. Sometimes, this film can be a bit difficult to get in and get out of because it feels a bit cramped but being a light rom-com film, you really want to keep your foot down to experience more on Elise.

This rom-com offering from Regal Entertainment maybe small and underpowered but its light-hearted chemistry makes you want to go for the extra mile until it reaches the checkered flag of the film. Want to watch this rom-com? Then it's lights out and away we go as Elise goes full throttle into cinemas now.

BATO - The Gen. Ronald Dela Rosa Story

During his two year tenure as the PNP Director General, Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa was one of the key persons that led the Duterte administration's brutal war against drugs that killed thousands of people, including children, triggering condemnation not just in local but international groups. Having so much interest on the so-called "hitman" of the Duterte administration since his appointment in 2016, Regal Films made a biopic about the untold side of the now former PNP Director General.

BATO - The Gen. Ronald Dela Rosa Story

Directed by Adolf Alix Jr., and starred Robin Padilla as the titular (now former) PNP General, BATO chronicles the life and times of Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa from his youth to his rise of power as the PNP Director General appointed by the Duterte administration since it began in 2016. The film also stars Kiko Estrada and Beauty Gonzalez, among many others.

As long as most people will not talk politics, despite the fact that Bato is running for the senatorial position in the May 2019 elections, this action film delivers so much power on the man behind the headlines. Some say, this film is reminiscent of the other biopic of a certain politician with some added action thriller into it but it's better not to mention that due to numerous reasons.

Regardless of your political beliefs, moviegoers need to remain neutral while talking about this explosive biopic of Bato Dela Rosa because there are plenty of people watching over anyone who has their word about this film, whether they like it or not.

Although hard to describe this film due to political reasons, Filipinos wanted to know more about Bato Dela Rosa shouldn't hesitate to watch the film because of the backstory the now former PNP Director General delivers.

Three Words to Forever

Most of us have our own three words to forever but what really are our three words to forever? Are they something that expressed love? Something that we can regret for the rest of our lives? Something you can't remember? Something you condemn? For Star Cinema's latest offering, they will truly show us what are the three words to forever.

Three Words to Forever

Starring megastar Sharon Cuneta, Richard Gomez, and Kathryn Bernardo, among many others, Three Words to Forever, a film by Cathy Garcia-Molina, is about three generations of a family who get together for the 25th anniversary of Rick and Cristy while their daughter Tin appears clueless that her parents no longer sleep on the same bed.

While this is not the ideal drama film for some people who valued a certain love team, Three Words to Forever values the meaning of love and family in the same pace and as a film that features a heart-warming story that values the typical Filipino family, it really means a lot for this film to understand what forever means.

Although not a great film to get used to, Three Words to Forever really slows us down with all of the drama and all of the life lessons we can learn from and this is something we can give and take from.

The heroic finale of Victor Magtanggol

Victor Magtanggol is the story of an ordinary man who was destined to wield the hammer of Thor, the Mjolnir, and protect Midgard from the clutches of Loki, the god of mischief and deception. In the course of the finale, with Victor finally exposed as Hammer Man and then surrendered the Mjolnir to Loki, his plot to destroy Midgard comes into fruition by turning Gwen's brother, Lance, into Fenrir, and Victor's sister, Lynette, who was presumed dead by the ambulance blast caused by the Jotuns, into Hel, the goddess of death. With the threat of Ragnarok looming, Victor teams up with his friends, his family, and some old enemies to put a stop to Loki's plot to destroy Midgard once and for all.

In the heroic finale of Victor Magtanggol, as Loki unleashed the end of Midgard, Victor and allies are headed to the cave to recover Thor's gauntlets, which was covered by the fires of Hel. After an argument on who has to sacrifice themselves to get the gauntlets, Victor's father, Tomas, recklessly touched the fire while giving Victor the chance to retrive the gauntlets.

After such sacrifice to retrieve the gauntlets, Victor and his allies are on an all-or-nothing final battle against Loki and his minions. As the battle between the gods and Loki's minions heating up, the fight between Victor and Loki are raging and as Jormungand swallowed the Mjolnir, the power of the Mjolnir shattered Jormungand, Victor tries to finish Loki off until Loki took Lynette (or Hel) hostage.

However, Hel (Lynette) finished Loki off and because Hel's power is too strong to Lynette to fight, there is no other choice for Victor but sacrifice himself to Hel's will. With Hel now controlling Victor, Loki finishes Victor off but for his last resort, Victor killed Loki with the Mjolnir.

Moments after Victor's inevitable sacrifice, Gwen sulks to Tim about losing two of her beloved people. Victor, meanwhile, bids Sif and Modi farewell now that the fight is over and as Victor handed over the Mjolnir to Modi, Modi decided to throw the Mjolnir back to the heavens so he won't commit the sinful mistake again.

Peace has restored in Asgard and Midgard and this concludes the heroic tale of Victor Magtanggol.

Torchwood: God Among Us 1

In the climax of the Aliens Among Us saga of Torchwood, fans of the hit Doctor Who spin-off were shocked at the sudden return of Yvonne Hartman, who thought she was one of the casualties of the battle of Canary Wharf at the end of Doctor Who Season 2, and with her back from the dead, there are some questions left unanswered for Torchwood...until now...

Torchwood: God Among Us 1
Torchwood returns in a brand new saga that picks up where the previous one left off. The newest chapter of Torchwood is titled God Among Us and this could be the thrilling saga of Torchwood worth listening to.

Fans of Torchwood are introduced in this brand new saga with four brand new missions to listen at. The first mission is where Hartman gain control and rebuild the Torchwood Institute while Captain Jack Harkness is hunting down an alien god in the sewers. The second mission puts the crosshairs on Brent Hayden. The third mission involves a hunter crawling through Cardiff at the dead of night. And on the fourth mission, all hell breaks loose.

With new and returning cast in this newest Torchwood saga, the first cour of the God Among Us saga delivers a cunning blend of suspense, thrill, and drama as you would expect from the heydays of Torchwood, not to mention the stuff that reflects the real-life scenarios the world's facing on. It's just one of the many reasons why the world's on fire right now and God Among Us is just the tip of the iceberg. It's a definite proof that Torchwood's back to its former glory but not what you're expecting it to be.

First Love (2018 film)

After so many years, Aga Mulach is back in showbizness as he stars in a movie that puts him and Bea Alonzo in it. It's titled First Love and this film pinpoints to the viewers that love can happen at any time at any place, no matter what the circumstances are.

First Love

It all starts with an accidental encounter upon saving a stranger's life, a businessman named Nick and a photographer named Ali's encounter sparked many things in their mind. Nick tries to leave his wrongdoings behind while trying to get to know about Ali better even though Ali was diagnosed with a congenital hearth disease and being on the waitlist for a heart transplant. Ali hopes that she and Nick will live their lives to the fullest before its too late, although some painful sacrifices had to be made.

This movie is either average, upbeat, and solemn at the same time and while witnessing Aga Mulach's comeback in a rather simple way, showing that age hasn't slowed this actor down, it's upright positive at first until it hits the lower notes all the way to the end of the film. Therefore it can be either happy or sad at the same time, which is typical for a slice-of-life romantic film of that magnitude but whether you love it or loathe it, First Love is the romantic film you can strongly relate to from beginning to end and if you're itching for a romantic movie that soothes your brows all the way home, consider this.

Exes Baggage

A lifetime ago, the breakup between celebs Angelica Panganiban and Carlo Aquino has been spewing through the showbiz headlines as far as the public barely remember it, but now that the two came back for a film that is highly relatable to each other, the film Exes Baggage sees if these two can patch things up just as what they did in real life.

Exes Baggage

In this film, Angelica and Carlo played the role of Pia and Nix, whose chance encounter turned into a deep attraction and despite their hurtful pasts, the two are getting to know each other but for how long?

The film wants to show everyone that these two celebrities are ready, willing, and able to put their pasts behind them with a unique blend of chemistry, sense of humor, and some hugot that will firmly grasp the hearts of the viewers.

While some might suggest that this rom-com film wasn't more than enough to put these two back together, Exes Baggage is a film that will surely remind moviegoers the good old days these two spent when they were together and this film will surely leave them a little smile on their faces.

Operation Finale

As Summer ends, one of the most intense post-war setting flicks comes in as the film about a 1960's operation to track down the last of the Nazis by Israeli agents has arrived and Operation Finale is one of the biggest upsets in cinemas before summer ends that lets its espionage suspense boils hotter than the pages of history.

Operation Finale

Starring Ben Kingsley and Oscar Isaac, among many others, and directed by Chris Weitz from a screenplay by Matthew Orton, this gripping espionage thriller re-enacts the operation where a Mossad agent named Peter Malkin is on the hunt on a living Nazi named Adolf Eichmann, who's responsible for the transportation logistics that killed millions of Jews in concentration camps during the Second World War.

Set in Argentina, just like how the operation goes, and packed with usual espionage cliches such as recon, fake passports, and escapes, Operation Finale can really glue moviegoers with its dramatic suspense that will keep them hanging from start to finish, guessing what comes next in this intense reenactment of a top-secret post-war mission that you won't find in the pages of the history books, well almost.

By observing dramatic performances by the cast themselves, including the main ones, Operation Finale satisfies what a gripping espionage flick delivers while delivering the emotion, the power, the dynamism, and the flavor that portrays just how relevant movies like these are in the real world and while the judgment is up to the tongues of moviegoers, there's so much to talk about the viscosity of this spy flick and the dark appeal it delivers.

The Hows of Us

The iconic love team of Kathniel are back once again for a more dramatic approach in their newest film directed by Cathy Garcia-Molina. The film is titled The Hows of Us and this is a dramatic slice-of-life film where we get to see Kathniel unlike any other as they get to know about themselves.

the hows of us

Starring Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo, this film is all about a young couple living together in one house while dealing with life's biggest problems. It's all about separation and starting over again as the film progresses, getting to know more about the characters themselves in a rather dramatic approach.

From every point of view, The Hows of Us really shows how much the Kathniel love team has grown through the years and this film never fails to disappoint moviegoers watching this film just to see them changed. Although plain, regular, and reasonable, the somber emotions portrayed in this film really brings out its dramatic charisma and by getting to know more as the film progresses, more and more will starting to realize that this is the main reason why everyone loves a Kathniel movie, no matter how right or wrong it may be.

Although there are some things that go wrong in this film, the emotion-poured drama really made The Hows of Us one of the most talked Pinoy films of this third quarter of 2018 and who can really blame this film for? Watch it and you decide.

Gintama 2

Last year, fans of the slapstick comedy manga Gintama got what they deserved with a live-action movie that blends action thrills with comic relief and as said that this was one of the best films to hit Japan last summer and due to such response, it's no wonder why they made a sequel film for that matter. Let's find out.

Gintama 2

With new and returning casts such as Shun Oguri as Gintoki Sakata, Masaki Suda as Shinpachi Shimura, Kanna Hashimoto as Kagura, Masami Nagasawa as Tae Shimura, and Masaki Okada as Kotarō Katsura, this second offense of the Gintama film centers on the Shinsengumi Crisis and Shogun Reception arcs of the Gintama manga and folks agree that with some crazy references in store in this film, there's no denying that their second offense really worked its charm very well.

More explosive and cornier than last year's, this sequel is definite proof why everyone in the name of all things bright and beautiful should better enjoy Gintama because like the manga itself, it packs a lot of spit takes knowing that this hilarious rollercoaster ride is worth checking out. Looks like people who saw their second film had a lot of experiences to talk about or write about so kudos to everyone watching this sequel.

Crazy Rich Asians

Based on a best-selling novel of the same title, Crazy Rich Asians is a rather unique romantic-comedy that greatly breaks the stereotypes about Asians with its diverse cast of characters that shows that in times like these, there are films that portray certain races in a rather unique kind of way.

Crazy Rich Asians

The film stars notable Asian celebrities such as Constance Wu, Michelle Yeoh, Gemma Chan. Awkwafina, Ken Jeong, and many others especially a little sneaky appearance by the once-called queen of media Kris Aquino. It's about an Asian-American named Rachel Chu agreed to spending her summer in Singapore with her boyfriend Nicholas Young, only to find out that once stepped out from the plane, her life goes upside down as she might encounter some interesting characters in store for her. How hard can it be?

This film showcases how much Asians have evolved from rags to riches and starting to talk and behave like First World Western people in a middle of a hearty conversation. Although brash and bland in the storytelling department, the vibrant nature of this film and the diverse cast of characters won't go unnoticed as once you watched this film from start to finish, you'll have plenty to reasons to think why Crazy Rich Asians is probably one of the best feel-good movies to watch before summer ends and that is the icing of the ube cake. Sweet.

There are so many reasons why we like watching this film because of the diversity portrayed in this film but there is one very good reason why you should; it's life.

I Love You, Hater

For the month of July, Star Cinema offered us another one of their rom-com offerings and while some of you are starting to believe that too much rom-coms are gonna bore you for no reason, take note that this new movie sees some fresh new talents and a return of someone you know.

I Love You, Hater

I Love You, Hater is a film stars Joshua Garcia, Julia Barretto, and formerly the queen of all media Kris Aquino. In this film, Joshua plays the role of a young man who tries so hard to support his family while Julia plays the role of a young woman who tries to prove herself to the world. When Sasha, played by Aquino, pits these two, the two young people ended up competing for who gets to be her new personal assistant.

This film is rather unheard for a rom-com because this film is turning into a lighthearted survival of the fittest as these two characters are going all out to vie for a new job, making viewers harder to decide which one will be with through the very end. Bitter rivalries aside, the love-hate scenario this film delivers maybe more sickening to the viewers' stomachs but they get the feeling that there will be a lot of people talking about this rather unique rom-com film that never fails to stil up some smiles on their faces and I Love You, Hater really hammers where it hits on the viewers' perspectives.

Satisfactory? Well, you can consider this film to be it, especially when you are seeing a film featuring the fresh faces from the showbiz industry and the former queen of all media who went AWOL for numerous reasons.

My rating: 3.4 out of 5.
