Doctor Who S11E06

A travel to the past and a matter of life and death became the topic of the sixth episode of BBC's Doctor Who as The Doctor and her companions landed on post-war India to uncover Yaz's grandmother's bitter past, not to mention some demons lurking around their backs to make things worse.

Doctor Who S11E06

The episode is titled "Demons of the Punjab" and this episode puts the spotlight on the bitter past of Yaz Khan's grandmother, Umbreen, in the time when a Muslim will marry a Hindu in the day India divided by partition until the appearance of demons and the death of the holy man alarmed The Doctor and her companions.

Viewers really appreciated that Muslims and Hindus in this episode showed how diversity played a crucial role in this season of Doctor Who and it really paints the theme of the episode rather well but aside from that, the familiar golden rule of fixed time point rings back to fans as ruled out by those so-called demons in this episode. That's classic Doctor Who rule to you.

Doctor Who S11E05

The fifth episode of Doctor Who Season 11 sees The Doctor and her companions taking on a small but terrible alien vermin sabotaging a transport spaceship before its too late.

Doctor Who S11E05

In this episode, The Doctor and her companions woke up being transported by a medical ship called the Tsuranga when suddenly a small but terrible alien lifeform is sabotaging the Tsuranga and it's up to The Doctor and her allies to put a stop to this tiny alien menace while keeping the Tsuranga and its occupants safe.

Taking a closer look on the alien vermin called the Pting, fans would thought that this creature is as cute as the Adipose a decade ago but since this is Doctor Who, the Pting is not cute but rather it's very scary indeed for a little creature munching objects for energy. Good thing The Doctor took out of this little guy for good, although we're kinda sad we got obsessed by the Pting.

Doctor Who S11E04

The recent episode of the 11th series of BBC's Doctor Who brought our fear of spiders to a completely new level as out heroes trying to get to the bottom of this horde outbreak.

Doctor Who S11E04

On that episode, The Doctor and her companions returned to present-day Britain, this time at the flat where Yaz and her family lives. However, their little homecoming gets interrupted when a horde of large spiders running amok and the hotel where Yaz's mom works could be the source of all this infestation.

The horror-like element in this episode shows that even this show still has the scary side that terrifies most viewers everywhere and there's that part that gives a little shout-out to the world's most powerful man if he's watching this episode where the characters are giving a little shout-out to him, whatever that means. But still, this episode is worth a turning point from start to finish and we can all agree to this episode whether we like it or not.

Doctor Who S11E03

The third episode of the eleventh series of BBC's Doctor Who sees The Thirteenth Doctor and her companions arrived at the United States in the mid-50's, where they meet one of the most revolutionary women in history none other than Rosa Parks while trying to stop a renegade time traveler from interfering one of the most revolutionary moments in civil rights history.

Doctor Who S11E03

Just by watching the recent Doctor Who episode, it all makes sense that the pseudo-historical take on how Rosa Parks changed the world or rather the universe really is relevant in today's times and the topic of race really is the biggest turning point of this episode because no matter who you are, regardless of race or color, even a small act can really make a huge impact and that's something we should all learn from this episode, unless if there's a renegade time traveller who got out from an intergalactic prison trying to ruin history forever.

The second episode starts with the characters woke up being parted by two separate ships and then later landed on a so-called empty planet called the Desolation. With the pilots (played by guest celebs Shaun Dooley and Susan Lynch) alongside them, The Doctor and her companions are struggling to survive the wasteland of the planet while going deeper to uncover the truth.

The episode ends with the grand unveiling of The 13th Doctor's brand new TARDIS complete with a revamped design inside and out, a fitting redecoration for the newest Doctor and it's great to see The Doctor's signature time machine evolved into something new. The mythical end of the Baganis' tale

Bagani is a fantaserye that draws inspiration from Philippine mythologies and it's about a tale of five mythical warriors bestowed by the power of Bathala in order to guard Sansinukob from the forces of evil.

Throughout the course of this story, we witnessed the rise and fall and born again of the Baganis as the tale of betrayal, despair, loss, loyalty, cooperation, and love put these chosen warriors to the test. With the watchful eye of the entity known as the Babaylan, the Baganis are risking their lives to save Sansinukob from dark forces.

And now, here it comes. The end of the myth and throughout the course of the final battle, Lakas and Ganda defeated Gaki, the god of nightmares, while racing against time to get the Puso ng Sinukuan at the top of the Bulkan ng Sinukuan while committing the ultimate sacrifice. With the Puso ng Sinukuan got rid of the evil force that lurks in Ganda's body, the Baganis are reunited and Malaya's act of revenge for the death of Sarimaw has failed.

Although Malaya humbly accepted defeated,  the dark force that was once got rid by the Puso ng Sinukuan has revived Sarimaw and killed Malaya with his bare hands. With Sarimaw reborn, he's going to destroy Sansinukob in one swoop until the Baganis Lakas, Ganda, Dumakulem, Liksi, and Lakam are here to finish him once and for all.

In the ultimate battle beyond good and evil, the Baganis were aided by the warriors of the Taga-disyerto, led by Kidlat and Dakim but as Sarimaw, reborn by the darkest power, slaughtered the warriors, he is slowly killing the Baganis one by one, but thanks to the prayers from the rest of the Sansinukob, the Baganis and the warriors have resurrected and at long last, the Baganis finally vanquished Sarimaw once and for all.

In the end, Sarimaw is under the hands of Bathala and as Bathala explained that love is the ultimate weapon of all, Sarimaw forgives as he stands with Bathala for what's next in Sansinukob and themselves.

With peace returned in Sansinukob, the clans are back to their normal lives as Dumakulem celebrated with his family and his clan, Lakam greatly seeing his Ama beginning his new lease in life, Lakas and Ganda had a family, and in a rather surprise ending, Liksi got transported to another time and encountered someone who looked like Lakas and Ganda. This concludes the mythical tale of Bagani.

Ready Player One

Ready Player One

This is by no means one of the most anticipated films in the Spring season and this film, some say, will put Wreck-It Ralph to shame, as Ready Player One brings cinemagoers to a whole new experience that is more than enough to blow everyone's minds off because of the geekdom all rolled into one melting pot of awesomeness.

Based on an Ernest Cline bestseller novel, this sci-fi action adventure stars Tye Sheridan, Olivia Cooke, Ben Mendelsohn, T.J. Miller, Simon Pegg, and Mark Rylance. Set in the year 2045, all of humanity are leaving their derelict reality behind and live in a virtual reality world called the Oasis where it's like heaven, only virtual. The Oasis is where people are free to be who they want to be but with the sudden passing of its creator, he releases a video where he challenges its users to find his Easter Egg which will give the finder a fortune. That's where the main character of the story comes in as he will risk everything to find the Easter Egg and save the world, whatever lays ahead.

This film reminded us of some that mashes up our favorites such as Wreck-It Ralph and Who Framed Roger Rabbit? because this film jumbled up all of our favorites geeks and nerds can easily recognize such as the DeLorean time machine from Back To The Future, the spaceship from Cowboy Bebop, The Iron Giant, and handful of video game characters including those from Overwatch, all rolled up into a melting pot of mind-blowing masterpiece Steven Spielberg can think of and while some say that this is have overdone it because it jammed up too much pop culture references like fitting so many stuff in a small backpack, Ready Player One is a tour de force that makes us shocked with awe, astonished us with surprises, faked out with twists, and many more, all in the name of geeks and ners waiting to get some more.

While this flick is not for the faint at heart, those moviegoers who are brave enough to watch it can be considered themselves dignified because Ready Player One is a film made for the dignified, not for the regrettable.

My rating: 4.3 out of 5.

Precure Super Stars!

Toei Animation's Precure franchise is reaching its 15th anniversary ever since the very first Precure TV anime series came out in February 2004. It maybe too early to celebrate Precure's 15th anniversary but in honor of 2018's recently aired Precure installment, HUGtto! Precure, the producers of the Precure franchise are giving the newest Precure heroines a chance to shine at the big screen alongside their predecessors, Kira Kira Precure A La Mode and Maho Girls Precure, in the new film.

Precure Super Stars!

It's called Precure Super Stars and this year's film is part of Precure's 15th anniversary celebration where it follows the tradition of past Precure crossover films that involves past and present Precure superheroines joining together to fight one of the most ruthless baddies known to them. Like it was mentioned, it brings three Precure installments such as Maho Girls Precure, Kira Kira Precure A La Mode, and the brand new HUGtto Precure in one magical adventure the whole family would enjoy. In the film, Hana Nono (also known as Cure Yell) faces off against a powerful supervillain plotting to spread darkness worldwide, but she is not alone though because while she, Cure Ange, and Cure Etoile are on a magical adventure to save the world, they get teamed up with their predecessors while making a fateful encounter with a mysterious Prince Clover.

This film packs twelve Precure superheroines in the film. Not only you got the newest heroines from the newest Precure series; Cure Yell, Cure Ange, and Cure Etoile, but also predecessors such as Cure Whip, Cure Parfait, Cure Gelato, Cure Custard, Cure Macaron, and Cure Chocolat from Kira Kira Precure A La Mode, and Cure Miracle, Cure Feliche, and Cure Magical from Maho Girls Precure. Just by looking at them joining forces in this film, you will realize that your five year old little girls are going to be super happy to see their past heroines coming back alongside the newest Cures to fight against a powerful supervillain bent on world domination. It's magical and because by PreCure standards, downright cute. Of course, this film is cute as well as the Cures' magical familiars tagging alongside them, especially the cute little baby Hugtan.

Although not quite the dream team longtime PreCure fans are expecting for, this film is chance to show what these new Cures can do while teaming up with their predecessors. Yes, it's too much to talk about it but while this film packs too much cuteness to burn your eyes off, not to mention the musical number you can expect at this film, there's so much to love about this film even if you're new to the Precure franchise. It didn't do much justice for some but this is just the beginning and we can look forward to see what's next for the newest Cures post-film.

How can you say about this film? It's not just good, it's HUGTTO GOOD PRECURE!

My rating: 3.8 out of 5.

A Wrinkle In Time

A Wrinkle In Time

Disney's visually spectacular masterpiece, A Wrinkle In Time, is more than just one of the most anticipated family films before the Spring season arrives like a lion but how this film unfolds is very special in each and every way it's hard to describe what's it all about.

Featuring a powerhouse of cast including veteran TV presenter Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, comedienne Mindy Kaling, and introducing Storm Reid, among many others, A Wrinkle In Time is very special in each and every way because this is unlike any other fantasy film you've ever known so far.

In this film, Meg Murry (played by Reid) and her little brother, Charles Wallace, are coping with the disappearance of her father ever since he discovered a new planet and used a concept known as tesseract five years ago. Unknown to her, her father is alive and he is hidden somewhere behind the darkness of the universe, and her search for her missing father begins with a little help of her classmate Calvin and three mysterious travelers known themselves as Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Who, and Mrs. Which. Throughout her journey to save her father, they must overcome the trials and become the warrior of light who can banish the darkness of the universe.

This film can be downright scary by the looks of the special effects because this is like a blend of Inception and some disaster films you seen at the cinemas but despite its overuse of CGI stuff, the biggest piece of history in A Wrinkle In Time is the diversive cast as well as the strong female personalities in the making of this film, as well as the film's director herself. This film really is something what women can do in the world of film making and because March is women's month, A Wrinkle In Time really is a party piece for the feminists to show the world what they're capable of.

Although not a great film for the fun of it, A Wrinkle In Time really sends a powerful message to the millions of youth who want to be inspired by her to embrace their individuality and strength to become a hero in times of crises. That is the real value of giving a child the universe to save and by believing in themselves and supporting each other, they can achieve everything.

My rating: 4.3 out of 5.

The La Luna Sangre finale

La Luna Sangre is the third chapter of the saga that started it all with Lobo since 2008 and then Imortal two years later. It's about Malia, the daughter of the main characters from Imortal, and Tristan, a wise-cracking young chap, who are separated by a curse while trying to show their love to themselves while dealing with a powerful vampire named Sandrino, who is the son of Magnus, who was slain by Lia and the La Liga Unida as seen in the Imortal finale years ago. Throughout the series, within separate ways, the two are trying to expose the Supreme One's weaknesses and now, it all comes to this; the Apocalypse as Sandrino's plot for mass slaughter comes into fruition.

Previously, as Jethro predicts that millions will die in the middle of blood moon, Tristan wants Malia to work together to put a stop to Sandrino's heinous plot for global genocide. Now, in the finale, Tristan arrives on the scene to face off against Sandrino for one last time as the two blood brothers engage on a do-or-die duel while millions of humans had their minds controlled by Sandrino's powers.

As the battle continues, Tristan tries to persuade Sandrino to put a stop to it until the cursed ink split Sandrino and the Supreme One apart, knowing that Sandrino prepares to atone for his sins. However, the Supreme One returns to Sandrino's body and the battle continues. Meanwhile, the Moonchasers and the La Liga Unida are trying to put a stop to this mass hypnotism.

As Sandrino critically damaged Tristan, Malia steps in and the battle rages on. As the battle rages on, Sandrino killed Malia but because of the love between Malia and Tristan, they gave their last inch of power to kill Sandrino once and for all. With the Supreme One killed, Sandrino said his final words, thanking them from freeing him from his inner demon before his demise.

With Tristan, Malia, and the rest finally saved the world, things are back to normal and that concludes the story of La Luna Sangre.

Doctor Who 2017 Christmas Special

It's the end of the era for Peter Capaldi as the 2017 Christmas Special, titled Twice Upon A Time, brings an unforgettable sendoff to the Peter Capaldi years as well as showrunner Steven Moffat as this special brings the two Doctors teaming up for one last mission when an army captain got entangled in an unexplained chain of events.

I do try to warn you people who never saw the special need to look away now because there are bits that I'm going to explain and if you don't wan't to know what happens next, I advised you to look away until you saw the rest of the special.

Doctor Who 2017 Christmas Special

The 2017 Christmas Special was one hell of a ride seeing an alpha and omega pair of The First Doctor and the Twelfth Doctor teaming up to uncover a mysterious alien force that got the captain (played by Mark Gatiss) tangled beyond time and space.

Of course, having David Bradley donning the William Hartnell role of the First Doctor is like a tribute band to a legendary rock band from a past and because of his unforgettable role in a 2013 biopic, Adventures In Space And Time, he's more than happy to reprise the First Doctor role in this special.

It's not just Pearl Mackie returning to the special as Bill Potts, in fact, some familiar faces did a brief comeback at the climax of the special such as Jenna Coleman as Clara and Matt Lucas as Nardole. What a brief reunion occured in the final minutes of the Twelfth's tenure.

Since his first adventure in 2014, the Twelfth Doctor made the world of Doctor Who a much serious stance and such serious stance made a huge mark in the history of Doctor Who. It's been quite an honor for us to become the 12th man for the Twelfth because despite his harsh character, he's been quite a valuable part of the Whoniverse and with the inception of Jodie Whitaker, the Whoniverse is heading to a brave new chapter.

Enjoyed the Twelfth Doctor's final journey? Delve more with the recent DW Fan Show webcast.

With Peter Capaldi's tenure ends and with Jodie Whitaker taking over, expect a brave new Doctor Who returning this 2018 and this year could be a pivotal year because this could be the 55th year of the show and the Thirteenth rings it rather well with such milestone. 55 years, over 700 episodes, 13 doctors, what more can you ask? Until then, see you next year.

The Mulawin vs. Ravena finale

Mulawin vs. Ravena is a dark sequel to GMA's first fantasy drama series and it centers on the kingdom of Avila in the wake of Aguiluz's death from the end of the first chapter. It's about the lines between the two races blurred and the prophecy from the Balasik proclaims that a powerful being will threaten both races, forcing the two sides to unite as one.

In the last few days, we witnessed that the two sides joined forces to defeat the powerful beast, which is half-god, half-Ravena, and turned out that one of Gabriel's children, Tak, is the chosen one. Following their victory against the monstrous beast, the kingdom of Avila is peaceful again with Almiro, the son of Aguiluz and Alwina, claimed his throne and marries Anya, a Tabon. Also, the two childhood friends, Pagaspas and Lawiswis, also getting married as well. But for Gabriel, he grows suspicious that the Golden Feather might end up on the wrong hands and he needs to find a safe place to hide it. In the Ravenas' lair of Halconia, Rafael, who claimed the throne from the renegade Daragit, who was slain by the beast, is plotting a coup as he wants to get Anya from Almiro and sabotage the wedding. His plot to sabotage the wedding failed but because of the chameleons, Rafael managed to obtain the Golden Feather, got Wak and Tak hostage, and killed Gabriel. The chameleons told the Mulawin heroes they will bring back Wak and Tak in exchange for Anya. With Wak and Tak under safe hands while Anya is now under Rafael's grasp, it won't be long before Almiro and the others raided Halconia to save her while dealing with Rafael and the end of Halconia.

Now, onto the finale, as the gang trying to escape the collapsing Halconia while Maguindara's caught in the collapse, Almiro used every ounce of his strength to kill Rafael once and for all before his untimely collapse. As Anya tries to beg for help, Pagaspas came and they managed to escape Halconia. Back in Avila, as Almiro's life is on the line, Almiro sees Gabriel in the afterlife as he promised Almiro to take good care of his children Wak and Tak as well as Anya. With Gabriel bid him farewell, Almiro has awakened and the wedding between him and Anya has resumed happily.

With peace returned at Avila, it won't be long until things returned to the way things were and this concludes the story of Mulawin Vs. Ravena.

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets

Luc Besson, the man who brought you films like Leon, The Fifth Element, and Lucy, has done it again and this time he introduces moviegoers a brand new sci-fi fantasy adventure that will take us beyond the limitless possibilities of outer space and our imagination.

Valerian

This sci-fi fantasy film is called Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets and it's based on a popular comic book series which inspired numerous creative minds. Dane DeHaan plays the titular role of Valerian and Cara Delevingne plays as his partner Laureline. Set in the 28th century, Valerian and Laureline embarked on a mission to an ever-expanding city called Alpha, where a benevolent force threatens the peaceful existence of the City of a Thousand Planets and together, they are on a race against time to stop this threat and save the universe.

Visuals has been part of every sci-fi fantasy movie ever made and the true beauty of Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets is the colorful and vivid visuals that adds life and depth of field into the cinematic masterpiece. Think Avatar, Interstellar, Star Wars, Star Trek, Blade Runner, and any other science fiction movie you know and familiar with because this film feels like mashing up the best science fiction films ever made out of curiosity from many sci-fi geeks and the result is a vast-changing film that releases a prismatic spectrum that will satisfy every moviegoer witnessed.

Despite the colorful visuals that sets Valerian apart, the storyline should have known better and while we are impressed with how it looks, how the film unfolds is a bit of a decency and it can knock some of the moviegoers into boredom until the exciting parts kicked in. And there's another problem with this film and there's a case of product placement.

Remember Minority Report a decade and a half ago? Toyota's luxury division Lexus made a car specifically for this future-set film and in Valerian, Lexus had another go in the sci-fi fantasy landscape with their so-called SkyJet and even though it only exists in the film, this is how Lexus represents its enhanced L-Finesse design in so many ways. It maybe just one of the key aspects on showcasing what Lexus can do when they design almost everything the way they did to their cars in the real world but as a product placement, it kinda rather spoils it like posers loitering around shopping malls all day and all night.

Even though the storyline is what you call a decency, the sheer magnitude of the visuals is what made Valerian one of the best films to watch in the summer blockbuster season and if you're looking for some out-of-this-world adventure that will excite your imagination, look no further.

My rating: 3.7 out of 5.

Here's the kicker of this tale; The Master killed Missy, The Doctor blows the horde of Cybermen, a Cyberman killed The Doctor, and an ultimate sacrifice made to end this war once and for all. Explosive, isn't it? No, the real kicker is that episode has the proof the viewers need about Bill Potts' "lesbian" status. After the fall and when Bill came out from the shell of the Cyberman, she was reunited by The Pilot, in the form of her friend named Heather, and get this, they kissed, proof that Bill Potts is a lesbian. In return, The Pilot granted Bill the power to become human again and together, the two had the happy ending they deserved but not for The Doctor.

The finale ends when The Doctor is about to regenerate until a sudden encounter of a mysterious person who is none other than...The First Doctor?! What's the first one doing here? Looks like we have to wait until Christmas Day to find out why but in the meantime, one last DW Fan Show webcast before Christmas?

Doctor Who S10E11

The first half of the two-part Season 10 finale of Doctor Who is a revelation fans braced themselves for because it's not just a classic variant of a robotic fiend that's making a comeback, someone is and man, what a kicker the first part is.

Doctor Who S10E11

Titled "World Enough and Time", The Doctor and his pals, including Missy, emerged on a colony ship until Bill Potts was shot dead by a ship crewman and some mysterious personnel took her to bring her back to life. Revived but transplanted with a mysterious object, while remembering The Doctor's words "Wait for Me", Bill tries to find out what's going on in this mysterious medical facility nestled below the colony ship while The Doctor tries to figure out how to get there.

Spoiler alert! The mysterious bearded person who helped Bill but later lured her to the trap to become a Mondasian Cyberman? Yep, it's the man who used to be Harold Saxon a decade ago. It's The Master (played by John Simm) emerged from the darkness again. With The Master risen from the dead and The Doctor's imminent death fast approaching, next week's finale will be the most unforgiving experience yet.

But in the meantime, executive producer Brian Minchin has his say in the recent DW Fan Show webcast.

The Lives of Captain Jack

Captain Jack Harkness; time agent, con man, Torchwood agent, and overall gay man we all love about him. He's a man of many mysteries but for some, he's a dead man walking with his problems, but for most, he's Captain Jack Harkness and he's one of the most famous Doctor Who characters ever remembered and Big Finish Productions brought in some of the best writers to compile four untold stories from Captain Jack Harkness, each connects to the events of past Doctor Who episodes.

The Lives of Captain Jack

John Barrowman reprises his role of Captain Jack Harkness in four new chapters highlighting the life and times of one of of our favorite homosexual characters from the world of Doctor Who and because it's already here in the time of the pride, that makes The Lives of Captain Jack a wonderful character study on the character we are strongly familiar with.

The first chapter is titled "The Year After I Died" and following the events of the Series 1 finale, The Parting of Ways, after he was killed by the Daleks and later revived by the power of the Bad Wolf (thus leaving him stuck with his immortality ability), Captain Jack emerges for the biggest fight for his life as he tries to save Earth from a familiar enemy.

In the second chapter titled "Wednesdays For Beginners", Captain Jack teams up with Rose's mother, Jackie (played by Camille Coduri) to save the Powell Estate from a threat Jackie Tyler must not be named.

In "One Enchanted Evening", after the dramatic events from The End of Time Part 2, this is where a new kind of love story kicks in after a chance encounter between him and Alonso Frame (played by Russell Tovey) at a bar after being introduced by The Doctor before he left. What is the reason why The Doctor want them to be together? It's a tough question out there and it's going to be one heck of a typical love story out there.

And finally, "Month 25", and this is how Captain Jack Harkness became part of the Time Agency and works his way through the ranks but the ranks weren't very grateful to him or are they?

These four new stories are sure enough to whet our appetite and our love over our favorite Time Agent who tries to deal with different kinds of situations no matter how many times he got killed and revived and it doesn't take a considerable amount of cheap and nasty time travel to understand the man we are familiar with. With the best writers and cast collaborated with Big Finish Productions, this compilation of stories is a fitting tribute to Captain Jack Harkness himself and we have to owe them major gratitude.

Doctor Who S10E10

As the crow flies in square circles, the latest episode of Doctor Who Series 10, titled "The Eaters of Light", sees The Doctor and his friends landed and separated on 2nd century Scotland, where a war between two sides became sidetracked by a powerful threat emerging through the darkness.

Sidetracked, Bill ended up at the hands of the Ninth Roman Legion while The Doctor and Nardole ended up with the Picts. As a powerful threat emerges through the darkness, the gang are finding their way to reunite themselves while having both factions work together to stop this powerful threat.
