Together Japan

Since the March 11 Great Tohoku Earthquake that destroyed most of our lives, making us worthless and we are almost giving up hope, Kojima Productions, the production crew famous for the Metal Gear franchise, launched a special site that give us some motivation and to make Japanese people "think positive" and "never quit" in the series of unfortunate events. This site was called Together Japan.

Just what Snake from MGS said that it's a time for a new hope, Kojima Productions provided us some "motivational" Kanji symbols, "Together Japan" kisekae icons on your Twitter profile pics, and some illustrations from your favorite Kojima Productions characters with a message from the illustrators that given us "hope" to "think positive" and "never quit" in Japan's dark times.

When this special site was first launched, there was a illustration of Ken Marinaris from Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner (日本名: ANUBIS: ZONE OF THE ENDERS) drawn by Nobuyuki Nishimura with some motivational words in Japanese that I can't tell what it is but I think these will motivate desperate Japanese people in these dark times. Later on, the "Together Japan" illustration gallery added Django and Sabata from Boktai games, ANUBIS main character Dingo Egret, IdeaSpy 2.5 (Two-han), and two Snake illustrations from Yoji Shinkawa; the first one has a message from Shinkawa himself that is very "motivational", and the second one that says "Hearts are made of Metal!!", making it the most motivational in the illustration gallery. There will be more to come!

Added also is the motivational lines that can be downloaded and can be a perfect ringtones.

In Japan's dark times, the courage of Japanese people are always solid. They will never quit no matter what and they will keep on fighting not for their home country but for themselves.

3/30/11 UPDATE: Mobile site open! A motivational audio quote from Mei Ling (CV: Houko Kuwashima) is now added to the list of motivational audio quotes and its now available for download!

3/31/11 UPDATE: Kanji for "HOPE" and "LOVE" now added! Motivational illustration starring Two-Han Princess are now added.

4/4/11 UPDATE: Audio quotes can be accessible on the mobile site. Check out the motivational words written in Japanese by Akio Otsuka (Snake from MGS series), Kikuko Inoue (Rose from MGS2 and MGS4, The Boss in MGS3, Sunny from MGS4, and Chico from MGSPW), and Tomokazu Sugita (Kaz from MGSPW).

7/21/11 UPDATE: Animated kanji now online and downloadableBadges with motivational Kanji now on sale exclusively at Konamistyle for 1260 Japanese Yen each, starting July 28!

Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker Heiwa to Kazuhira no Blues

Kept you waiting, huh? Just when you thought you know all about Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker (日本名:メタルギアソリッドピースウォーカー) from the start to the real finish, think again. Of course you saw the whole Peace Walker story from your own eyes, but your ears (unless you understand Japanese) didn't hear the other side of the story.

If so, the other side of the Peace Walker story comes in the Drama CD titled Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker: Heiwa to Kazuhira no Blues. This drama CD comes with the short drama, portraying the Peace Walker story's point of view in the eyes of Snake and Kazuhira "Kaz" Miller. Aside from the drama, there are two character songs added that is really fresh from the MSF Mother Base. Akio Otsuka, as Snake, will sing Showa Blues, while Tomokazu Sugita, as Miller, will perform his version of the most common Japanese song, Minato no Yoko Yokohama Yokosuka. Also, there are BGMs never before added on the original soundtrack, and special tracks including the arrange of the MGSPW main theme used in the recently ended Peace Walker web radio, Kazradio.

A must-have sound ensemble for the Metal Gear fans, especially those who are waited to hear a song from Snake and Miller.

Heiwa to Kazuhira no Blues - What is it all about?

I saw something added on the line-up of MGSPW items:

If I look down on that page, I noticed that Peace Walker will have a Drama CD as what Hideo Kojima announced earlier that month. It's not just a Drama CD, they'll also have two character songs included, plus BGMs never before released in the Original Soundtrack.

Two character songs will be led by Akio Otsuka (as Snake) and Tomokazu Sugita (as Kazuhira "Kaz" Miller), so if you guys haven't heard of it, this will come out on this CD this fall.

Akio Otsuka, as Snake, will sing "Showa Blues" and Tomokazu Sugita, as Miller, will sing "Minato no Yoko Yokohama Yokosuka", making fans more interesting.

Hope I can pre-order that CD...

Pooyan this, Pooyan that, Heryan, Pooyan Mission!

Guys! Does anyone who loves video games remember some classic video game called Pooyan?

If you know what Pooyan is, there's a clip:

It's a game where you must shoot arrows to some balloon-hanged wolves trying to snatch your baby pigs. Well, of course, you know this old-age video game right?

Some might consider, the classic Pooyan is pooling in some Konami games like this:

On the left is some Nintendo DS game called Hayate No Gotoku! Ojousama Produce Daisakusen (日本名: ハヤテのごとく! お嬢様プロデュース大作戦 ボク色にそまれっ!) The second Hayate No Gotoku game for the Nintendo DS sold in Japan. As you may know, there are two versions of this game. Both versions let players have Nagi Sanzenin, Maria, and Hinagiku Katsura. However, the Oyashiki Hen (Mansion Version) lets you have Isumi Saginomiya, Sakuya Aizawa, Wataru Tachibana, and Saki Kijima (unlockable character when you're done), while the Gakkou Hen (School Version) allows you to have Yukiji Katsura, Ayumu Nishizawa, Izumi Segawa (the leader of the Hakuo Three Amiga), and Hermione Ayasaki (which is odd that person is Hayate Ayasaki but its an unlockable character when you're finished with this version).

In some part of this game, you (as Hermione) will play their version of the Pooyan game called, Heryan. In that mini-game, you will have to shoot some arrows through the balloon clinged Tama(s), otherwise Tama will start...ugh.. how can I say it politely.... you! Happen this three times or when the time is up, its game over! Once you're done, depending on your performance, you will gain goodies to raise your character.

Now, you guys know how does Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker feels like, right? There is also an extra ops mission called "Pooyan Mission". (Ugh, here goes the Pooyan reference!) Shoot the balloons that abduct soldiers before it reaches the sky! Fail three times and it's game over!

Got it?

Enjoy the Pooyan memory!

My PW First Impressions

A week ago after I bought the latest Metal Gear title called Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker (日本名:メタルギアソリッド:ピースウォーカー), of course what did I expect about this awesome addition to the legendary stealth action game that made it one of Konami's flagship titles...

To put up on this, sneaking missions can be easy or difficult, depending on which equipment you had and how your fellow player acts... Even when going solo, I can still take out the enemy leader without killing him and capture the armored vehicle, tank or helicopter I've encountered. I wonder if some guys doing Co-ops doing the same method as I am, no kills, enough Fulton recovery for each player, and the right equipments.

As you and I succeed, the missions getting more tougher and tougher, meaning you need more researched weapons and equipment essential to various missions, including Extra Ops.

As you progress the game, you can build the ultimate MG-ZEKE and use it on Outer Ops. To do this, you need to fight three AI weapons such as the Pupa (easy as pie), Chrysalis (too easy or too hard), and the Cocoon (extremely hard). As Huey says, try to leave parts intact.

The Peace Walker battle is far out to be the most difficult battle in this game. In your first encounter (in two leg form), this is easy to beat, unless you have enough supply marks and strike marks. The second, and mostly the last, battle (in four-leg form) is truly the most extreme battle you'll ever face, unless you need some co-ops with other players. Going solo is extremely hard, but in co-ops, you can take out of this "el basilisco" once and for all.

I'm sure I am truly addicted to this game. I handled several challenges, from sneaking various areas, doing some no-alert and no-kills, kick some AI Weapon butts, capture vehicles, surviving the dreaded torture from Dr. Strangelove, going through the final battle, then after completing the game; searching Zadornov (Galvez's real name) from his hiding spots, and rematch Pupa, Chrysalis, and Cocoon to gain essential MG-Zeke Parts. I like Cecile's imitation quetzal sounds, in some mission where you will retrieve the right ID card from a mercenary with some quetzal sounds nearby.

I am truly recommend this game for those who love it.

Say Peace!

Products worked with MGS (from Sons of Liberty, Snake Eater, GOP, and PW) *UPDATE

When a certain company teaming up with the biggest event of the year, it is like their teaming up to sell not only this, but also the ones shown. Take Konami's flagship Metal Gear Series for instance. Since MGS2, this is the first time this flagship action game is teaming up with some of the biggest names in the industry.
Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty Box Front
In MGS2, you'll observe the book item, which when you drop it, the soldier will rush to it and immobilizing it for a long time, was none other than the FHM magazine.

If most of the men know about FHM, it's the Playboy magazine rival, packed with sexy girls and manly lifestyle only men should act like men. Oh, and for manly Pinoy FHM fans, I can see you getting a copy of FHM at your nearest bookstores such as National Bookstore.

If you are 18 and above and if you are manly, visit the FHM Philippines site:

Moving on,
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater Box Front

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, revolves on the soldier who became Big Boss. As most of us already done playing this game, there are products appeared in this game:

That's right! The Calorie Mate do exists from the game and in real life! Calorie Mate is some kind of a block-shaped snack loaded with energy that gives you more time for work, more time for play, and more time for everything. This item is sold all over Japan but I'm sure we want to take the taste of this dietary snack.

Aside from the Calorie Mate, there is a Japanese men's magazine published by Shogakukan, that is suitable for the over aged men who are seeking ladies. It is called a Sabra Magazine. Want to see how a front cover of the Sabra Magazine looks like? Whoops! Censored!

Look at the Japanese site, but be warned, it's only for men who are 18 and older!

Last, but not least, the motorbike Eva used at the near end of Snake Eater was a Triumph motorcycle!

Take note, the Triumph Bonneville also appeared on MGS4: GOP as Big Mama's bike on Act 3.

Moving on,

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots Box Front

For those who remembered Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns Of the Patriots, the ultimate chapter in the MGS series, revolving on Snake's ultimate mission that spans around the globe, preventing Liquid's world domination from happening, there are a powerhouse of products worked in this game!

CASE 1:

Darn right! This was the Regain energy drink used in this game, which is a big seller in Japan! Regain energy drink is an energy drink manufactured for men who want some energy for work, play, and everything! There are so many energy drinks sold in Mightee Mart, Shopwise, and other supermarkets, but this Regain energy drink beats all the energy drinks ever made.

Hugh Hefner was so surprised that Plaboy magazines made a perfect collaboration with MGS4. Same from what happened with the FHM magazine in MGS2, this Playboy magazine makes a perfect trap against PMC soldiers. It also restores Snake's psyche gauge just by peeking at the magazine contents. Amused? Just moments before Playboy Philippines debuted.

I almost forgot, the computers used during the mission briefing and the ones that Dr. Hal "Otacon" Emmerich had were all made by Apple. GET A MAC!

An Ipod Classic is a perfect item that Old Snake used in this game!

It allows players to switch in-game BGMs! Cool! Better buy the ones Otacon had and the Ipod Classic Old Snake had at the Power Mac Center!

The phone Dr. Naomi Hunter and Vamp used in the in-game clips were made from Sony Ericsson! If you know if most of us are using Sony Ericsson, we are dedicated on this kind of Sony Ericsson show in the game. Geez, we just want to get a hold on this phone!

In the game there is an outfit that turns Old Snake into Altair from the game Assassin's Creed. If you remember this, you probably know what that mean.

Now in 2010, with Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker on the hook, Konami gathered a full house of some of the biggest names in the industry.

Suntory, the Japanese distributor of Pepsi products, teamed up with Konami for the limited edition Mountain Dew cans featuring eight different characters from Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker! These limited edition cans were available in Japan since April 27, two days before Peace Walker is out, and it gathers most Snake fans for the rush!

When Japanese gamers take the first hold at Peace Walker, there are various secret soldier passwords hidden throughout different products teamed up for collaboration such as Mountain Dew, Pepsi Nex (which is like Pepsi Zero, Pepsi Max, whatever), UNIQLO (they also had Peace Walker related T-shirts), Axe (the cologne product that gives men attract more women), and Doritos. Sony Walkman cassette players are used in the game for changing background music. Boncurry, Japan's number one curry mix, makes an appearance as a healing item. Weekly Shonen Magazine (serialized Mahou Sensei Negima, Hajime no Ippo, School Rumble, Get Backers, Samurai Deeper Kyo, and the manga turned into a latest J-drama from TBS, Yankee-kun to Megane-chan), Famitsu magazine, Dengenki Playstation, and Dengenki Gamers made appearances as trap items, luring soldiers and immobilize them, making holdups easier.

Video games like Assassin's Creed II and Monster Hunter Freedom Unite made a special appearance in Peace Walker!

I guess there's plenty of collaborations in Peace Walker!

Update: Some PW Collabos are for Japan-spec.

Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker

Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker (Japan Version)
Gear up for the legendary lost chapter of the Metal Gear saga that is truly the biggest event of mankind! With sales on Japan starts today, and in June for the U.S. and Euro market, the latest chapter of the legendary Metal Gear series, that made it "one of the flagships of Konami", is not low on solipsism but the semblance of dualism strikes within! Welcome to the world of METAL GEAR SOLID PEACE WALKER! (日本名:メタルギアソリッド:ピースウォーカー)

Set in the events after MGS3, Big Boss (known as Naked Snake), the hero who once saved the world from the nuclear disaster, turned away from his motherland and established his own private army known as Militaires Sans Frontieres (Soldiers Without Borders) in South America. With Kazuhira Miller (known by Metal Gear fans as "Master" McDonnel Miller), Snake accepts a request from the visitors from "a nation without a military". A scholar of peace named Ramon Galvez Mena and his student named Paz Ortega Andrade (the leading lady), ask Snake to vanquish the mysterious army wreak havoc from the peaceful nation of Costa Rica. Well, I'm not going to give you any spoilers from this game, let me tell you the majestic features from Hideo Kojima's latest masterpiece I'm sure you Metal Gear fans love.

Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker is the first MGS game that allows you to play with a friend! The new Co-op feature gives you and your friend some cooperation, coordination, and comradeship in different missions. When your friend dies, rush to your pal and give CPR to revive your friends! If you need an item, you can share an item with a friend. Aside from weapons that allows one person to use it, there are cool weapons that require two or four people to use it such as the railgun that requires a friend to handle the railgun dynamo to charge it up, a stealth ray that allows a user to make a friend invisible, tank box that requires player one to move it and player two to man the turret and blast away foes, a healing gun that heals your friends when fired, an electromagnetic wave gun that when you and your friend aligned these beams, it wipes them out, and more co-op items that makes you and your team useful in various situations. You know what they said, acting along can be weak, but working together as a team makes you stronger.

Turning your enemies into allies (just like what you and I did since Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops) is now redefined with the use of a simple tactic called "Fulton Recovery System". To make use of the Fulton Recovery System, you need to use some non-lethal tactics, like for instance CQC, hold-ups, or put them to sleep. Lethal weapons also work but be sure it is not a fatal hit in order to commence it, then when a red skull appeared on the top of the fallen enemy, use the Fulton Recovery System to get it quick before reaching the enemy's death!

When you're done with the mission, you can take a break at the base of operations called "Mother Base". As a Big Boss, you can manage your own mother base with the use of your captured foes and assign them to which position you want them to be on such as setting them to Combat Unit, R&D Staff, Medical Staff, Mess Hall Staff (for rations) and Intelligence Staff (important for gaining some briefings) respectively. As you gain more, the Mother Base will expand and new options for you to try.

Oh, and we almost forgot! You can also capture vehicles as well! To capture a vehicle, for instance a battle tank and a helicopter, all you need to do is to take out the commander piloting it, or try various items that capture these vehicles and use it on various missions, even Outer Ops, which is like Cyber Survival from MPO, even better.

With your R&D Staff, you can use them to gain various items or upgrade different weapons you have. For instance, you can upgrade your assault rifle to gain a grenade launcher attachment, a bazooka that fires sleeping gas, set a trap to fool your foes, use an even more powerful weapon, and more. Put these staff to your advantage and take good use of these newly-found items!

When you and your friends having a break from Co-ops, why not have some good time trade items and soldiers to each other. Also, you can engage in multiplayer battles (for 2 to 6 players) with different rules to choose from.

HERE'S A TIP!
Tell your ojousama, onee-sama, seitokaichou, your best friend, your maid, your classmate, your co-workers, and everyone that now it is the time for you and your friends to Co-op in! With the new Co-op feature, you can work together as a team to finish various missions! If you want to go solo, it's okay, you can go solo, but when you want a helping hand, co-ops is the best way.

LIMITED EDITION: The MGSPW Premium Package includes not just the game itself, but also the specially designed PSP-3000, cleaning cloth, pouch for your PSP, a stand, and a specially designed dogtag. If you're in Japan and rushing to get your very own Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker, buy this premium package before it runs out since this has a limited availability.

Compare Peace Walker to Monster Hunter Freedom Unite

While we wait for Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker to arrive in Asia this April 29, US in June 8, Europe in June 17, and U.K. in June 18, we found some alternative co-op game others want to recommend it to others...
Monster Hunter Freedom Unite Box Front

Capcom's Monster Hunter: Freedom Unite (日本名:モンスターハンターポータブル2nd G) for the PSP allows players work together as a team and use an array of weapons to take down monstrous foes. Of course, this game allows you to play by yourself or play with a friend.

Now what happens when two worlds collide?

Since April 7, the day when the final specs of MGSPW were released, Konami teamed up with Capcom (famous for Street Fighter, Resident Evil, Mega Man, and Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney games) to see how Peace Walker is better than Monster Hunter Freedom Unite. Of course, playing yourself or with a friend is much more exciting to take down giant monsters with your MGS weapons.

(Geez, better buy this Monster Hunter game and see how solo or co-op is best works for me)

My comment: One word which makes Peace Walker and MH: Freedom Unite have in common: cooperation. Team work pays off.

Heavens Divide / Koi No Yokushi Ryoku

This is the Metal Gear series' first character song CD made for those who want to experience both the Peace Walker theme song and the series' first character song made possible by Nana Mizuki, the Japanese CV of Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker's leading lady, Paz Ortega Andrade. This Maxi Single CD was out since Wednesday, April 7, the day when the final specifications of MGSPW were out, preparing for Asia's April 29 release and international version's June release.

Two words to describe this maxi single CD; tender but powerful. The first track in this maxi single CD, Heavens Divide, sung by Donna Burke, is sounded more like Calling to the Night, the ending theme from Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops, but the tone is relaxing at first and energetic all the way to the end of the song. That is why, I consider the song, Heavens Divide, as one of my favorite video game songs in my life. Take note that this song will be included in the Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker OST, coming next week. And now, after talking about Heavens Divide, it is now time to talk about the series' first character song. (Yay!)

The song, Koi No Yokushi Ryoku (which means love's deterrence in Japanese), adds something not only for MGS fans, but fans of Nana Mizuki, the popular seiyuu behind Fate Testarossa from Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha series, Moka Akashiya from Rosario+Vampire, Colette from Tales of Symphonia, and Hinata Hyuuga from Naruto series. It follows the same way as Heavens Divide, tender at first and energetic all the way. You might consider why because it sounded like one of Nana Mizuki's songs such as Phantom Minds, Trickster, Silent Bible, and others, because this is truly addicting in the ears of fans considering the number seven as their favorite number. (Because "nana" is seven in Japanese) It is just like what others said, Nana Mizuki's voice is too sexy for Paz Ortega Andrade. For those who want to hear this massive treat from Peace Walker, this maxi single CD is recommended not just for Metal Gear fans, but for the fans of Nana Mizuki as well. (I'm sure when the English-speaking members of S.C. Nana Net, the Nana Mizuki fan club, reading this blog, he or she will jump through the music store to buy this CD and listen it over and over until its nap time)

THIS TRULY THE BEST SONG YOU WON'T FIND IT ANYWHERE ELSE!

I'LL GIVE KOI NO YOKUSHI RYOKU A MASSIVE THUMBS-UP, SEVEN TIMES IN A ROW! YAY!

Limited Edition: There is a limited edition of this Maxi Single CD. It features an alternate cover of Paz Ortega Andrade (voiced by Nana Mizuki in the Japanese version of MGSPW and Tara Strong in the international version of MGSPW) which others find it amusing.

Nana Mizuki's voice is too sexy for Paz. ;-)

When I was listening to the February 18 episode of the Kojima Productions Japanese Podcast, titled Hideochannel Radio (hosted by the Metal Gear god, Hideo Kojima, Yumi Kikuchi, and others), this Japanese podcast gave us the first taste of when will Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker release to the market. (As if, they will launch PW Asia-wide at the end of April and U.S. and European markets this June) Not only that, next month, the original game soundtrack and get this, Metal Gear series' first character song album are set for release. In case you didn't recognize, the Metal Gear series' first character song album will be released in Japanese music stores this April 7 and it packs not only the theme song, titled Heavens Divide (sung by Donna Burke), but also the series' first character song, titled Koi no Yokushi Ryoku, sung by the Japanese voice actress of Peace Walker's Paz Ortega Andrade (the leading lady of this game) and also the seiyuu of one of the hottest anime roles (Fate Testarossa from Lyrical Nanoha series, Moka Akashiya from Rosario+Vampire, and Hinata from Naruto series), Nana Mizuki!

I might be able to get a simple review, but remember, the launch date for this maxi single CD is on April, but I'll give you guys an early description on the first character song album from the Metal Gear series. I love the song "Heavens Divide". (as heard from the MGS:PW TGS 2009 official trailer) That song looks more from the ending theme from Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops, titled Calling to the Night, sung by Natasha Farrow. Word from Konami is, they'll include this song on the Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker OST on sale a week after the series' first character song CD debuted. For the song "Koi no Yokushi Ryoku":

What can I say? Nana Mizuki's voice is too...

TOO DARN SEXY FOR THIS! I LOVE THIS! (Can't wait 'till April 7 to acquire it at a very reasonable price!)

Before witnessing the character song's music video, the Hideochannel Radio podcast gave us the first listen to this song. Although, I got to say, Hideo Kojima-san and Yumi Kikuchi-san undeniably love it! The powerful tone (similar to Nana Mizuki's song, Phantom Minds, from Lyrical Nanoha the Movie 1st), the sexy voice, nothing can stop this song from uplifting not only MGS fans, but Nana Mizuki fans as well!

Let's give Nana Mizuki-san a massive two thumbs up for this song! (Best to forget from the Korean otaku marrying a Fate Testarossa dakimakura...)

Oh, and for fans living in Japan, best to catch the last Nana Mizuki Live Academy concert this March 27 at the Nippon Gaishi Hall in Nagoya.
