ABB Formula E Race at Home Challenge Round 1

As the entire ABB FIA Formula E season went into indefinite suspension due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the racers left wondering what to do while staying at home for a very long time. The solution? The organizers team up with PlaySeat to create Formula E racing simulators, ship them to the drivers, and start a special e-sports series. The result; the special ABB FIA Formula E Race at Home Challenge for the benefit of UNICEF.

The first virtual venue of the special ABB FIA Formula E Race at Home Challenge took place in the virtual streets of Hong Kong. Focusing on the Driver Grid which consists of known Formula E greats and other motorsport greats, the virtual Hong Kong action takes about 15 laps and in typical Formula E fashion, there has been lots of drama and action in store for the stay-at-home drivers taking on this brand new approach to the sport they know.

After 15 laps of tense, close-quarters action in the virtual streets of Hong Kong, BMW i's Max Guenther takes the first points of the Race at Home Challenge after fending off against Nick Cassidy, a Super GT driver driving for Emvision, and Mahindra driver Pascal Wehlrein to win the race. Easier done than said.

FIA Formula E S6 suspended for 2 months amid COVID-19 fears

After the suspension of races in Sanya, Rome, and Jakarta due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic that infected over 130,000 people and killed over 4,800 victims, the FIA announced that the current season of the ABB FIA Formula E is suspended for two months until further notice.

Screengrab from ABB Formula E
The move comes after the similar situation in Albert Park, Melbourne, where most of the races held here for this weekend, such as VASC and Formula 1, are cancelled following a certain crew member tested positive for COVID-19 coronavirus, as well as other races such as Sebring (FIA WEC and IMSA), and Long Beach (IndyCar).

Also according to the statement, the organizers said that they're implementing a flag system traditionally used in motorsport, to determine different phases and time windows where races could be rearranged or remain unaffected. Red representing no races, yellow keeping the opportunity open and green going ahead as planned.

March and April are marked red flag while May is marked yellow flag and both June and July given the green flag should the situation improves and stabilizes.

Stand by for further details.

First-ever Jakarta e-Prix of FIA Formula E cancelled due to COVID-19

Following the cancellation of the Sanya and Rome E-Prix of the sixth season of the FIA Formula E, another sad news in the world of motorsport as they are no longer hosting the first-ever Jakarta E-Prix of this season due to COVID-19 coronavirus fears.

Screengrab from ABB Formula E

In a statement released from its organizers, they will not host the inaugural Formula E race at Jakarta, Indonesia "as instructed by the Governor of Jakarta Anies Baswedan." The move comes after the organizers cancelled not just the Sanya E-Prix, but also the Rome E-Prix, which was supposed to take place next month, due to the Italian government placed the whole country on lockdown due to the rapid spike of COVID-19 cases there. Although, it is still unclear whether they will cancel the first-ever Seoul E-Prix of this season as COVID-19 cases there peaked to near eight thousand.

Stand by for further details.

The streets of Marrakesh, Morocco, welcomes back the action and the drama of the ABB FIA Formula E championship with this season's Marrakesh E-Prix and this race couldn't get even more special than this.

If they decided not to go ahead with the Rome E-Prix due to COVID-19 Coronavirus concerns, then the next race will be at Paris, France, on the 18th of April. Until then, stay tuned for further updates.

ABB FIA Formula-E S6 - Santiago E-Prix

It’s a new decade of racing and the sixth season of the ABB FIA Formula E championship celebrates it with a thrilling street race at Santiago, Chile, a city heavily ravaged by last year’s protests. Despite having its image tarnished by protests last year, that doesn’t stop them from delivering what is known to be the closest race in Formula E history.

Screengrab from Formula E
This season’s Santiago ePrix will be fondly remembered for the closest endgame in Formula E history thanks to BMW i’s Maximiliam Guenther engaged in a close combat against DS TECHEETAH’s Antonio Felix Da Costa and successfully fended Da Costa off to snag his first career win. ABB FIA Formula-E S6 - Diriyah E-Prix

The sixth season of the ABB FIA Formula-E Championship is by no means the biggest Formula-E season to date because of new competitors from Porsche and Mercedes-Benz and new locations such as South Korea and Indonesia. The season kicked off with the two-part Diriyah E-Prix race where new and returning competitors survive themselves to the final tick of the clock to get through victory lane and boy, what a race that is.

Screengrab from FIA Formula-E

In the first race of the season opener, Sam Bird of Virgin Racing emerged as the winner after surviving against the likes of Andre Lotterer, who is now at the brand new Porsche Formula-E Team, and Stoffel Vandoorne, who is now at the new Mercedes EQ team. Then, in the latter race, Alexander Sims, representing BMW i, beats his teammate Maximilian Guenther, and Audi veteran Lucas di Grassi.

The two-part Diriyah E-Prix is a wild way to start the season but expect big things ahead as the next race will be at Santiago, Chile, on the 18th of January, 2020.

ABB FIA Formula E S5 FINAL

The fifth season of the ABB FIA Formula E has been evolved into one of the most fiercest motorsports in modern history. From the introduction of its second-generation Formula E machines, 13 races which began from Saudi Arabia, new and returning drivers and teams, and much more. As the whole motoring world can't get enough with the "fiercely driven" new era of FIA Formula E, the two-part New York finale shows the motorsport's true colors and in the endgame, title leader Jean-Eric Vergne of DS TECHEETAH is on an all-or-nothing game to make sure he will be the first-ever two-time world champion in Formula E history.

Screengrab via FIA Formula E
In part one of the New York finale, JEV's in huge trouble as his rear tyre got punctured during a Turn 7 disaster caused by Dragon's Jose Maria Lopez, who got spun after a tap by Envision Virgin's Sam Bird. With JEV in huge trouble, NISMO driver Sebastien Buemi nicked his first win after two years, with title rivals Mitch Evans and Antonio Felix da Costa finished in 2nd and 3rd.

However, all is not lost for JEV as the final part of the season finale turned the tables on him. As Envision Virgin driver Robin Frijns dramatically overtook BMW i driver Alexander Sims to take the lead and win the final race of the season, Jean-Eric Vergne got his prayer answered as his title rivals, Lucas Di Grassi and Mitch Evans, got caught in a last lap mess and charged his way towards a seventh place finish scoring enough points to defend his title.

At the score of 136 points, Jean Eric Vergne is now officially, for the first time in history, the two-time Formula E world champion. Buemi, meanwhile, is 17 points behind JEV, and Antonio Felix Da Costa leapt to third with 108 points.

So, there you have it; second-generation cars, 13 races, 9 winners, and a two-time world champion for the books, this is what the fifth season of the ABB FIA Formula E truly sums it up.

Congratulations, JEV, and see you next season!

ABB FIA Formula E S5: Paris ePrix

The city of Paris, France, has been pummeled to its darkest times following last week's Notre Dame fire that made the whole world stopped. This is why for the recent Paris ePrix, before the race, everyone in the ABB FIA Formula E are slowing things down to pay tribute to Notre Dame before setting off to what was known to be the first wet race in Formula E history.

The first half of the Paris ePrix is a bit of a mild chaos but when the rain came (or hail as some would say it), the race becomes even more chaotic as most Formula E drivers couldn't keep up with this new road condition. But in the end of what is known to be the first wet race in Formula E, Robin Frijns of Envision Virgin wins, continuing the streak of different winners in different races of the season, while Andre Lotterer of DS Techeetah is placed 2nd and Daniel Abt of Audi Sport completes the podium with a third place finisher.

Highlights:

After the chaotic wet race in Paris, Frijns now takes the lead from Lotterer by a point, 81-80, while BMW i's Antonio Felix Da Costa's now dropped to 11 points behind Frijns.

Will the streak continues or will it end? The next race of the ABB FIA Formula E Season 5 will be at Monaco Cote d'Azur for the Monaco ePrix on the 11th of May.

ABB FIA Formula E S5: Rome ePrix

When the fifth season of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship began, there were about six different winners from Antonio Felix Da Costa winning the Ad Diriyah ePrix up to last year's champion Jean-Eric Vergne winning the Sanya ePrix. With the boys gone GOT mode, the Rome ePrix sentences them to trial by combat, automotive combat that is, and decide if a seventh hero will emerge in an epic all-electric street fight at the Italian capital.

As a matter of fact, looks like the Rome prophecy's came true as a seventh different winner emerge in the form of Jaguar driver Mitch Evans, who took his team's first win, while Techeetah driver Andre Lotterer placed 2nd and former F1 driver and HWA Racelab driver Stoffel Vandoorne completes the podium with the third place finish.

Highlights:

After the Game of Romes, Jerome D'Ambrosio of Mahindra still leads with 65 points, a point ahead of BMW i's Antonio Felix Da Costa, and three ahead of DS Techeetah's Andre Lotterer.

The ABB FIA Formula E Championship is back to where it all started; the People's Republic of China, and this time, they're on a brand new Sanya track for this season, located at the heart of the Hainan Island.

In this new track, no drivers are safe from the inevitable moments happening in Sanya and with season leader Sam Bird out, a close call for Da Costa, Alexander Sims out, and a last lap crash with Robin Frijins and Lucas Di Grassi, Sanya's quite a challenge for seasoned veterans and newcomers alike.

In the end, Jean-Eric Vergne of DSTECHEETAH, last season's champion, won the first-ever Sanya ePrix, to be followed by Oliver Rowland representing Nissan and Antonio Felix Da Costa representing BMW i.

After Sanya, Da Costa's now leading the standings at 62 points, followed by Jerome D'Ambrosio of Mahindra with 61 points, and JEV now clawing through third place with 54 points.

ABB FIA Formula E S5: Hong Kong ePrix

This season's Hong Kong ePrix marks the 50th ePrix of the FIA Formula E franchise and what better way to celebrate the series' 50th ePrix than letting the drivers go all out in the streets of Hong Kong. With some twists and turns in typical Formula E fashion, this 50th ePrix in Formula E history really is something from start to finish.

In this 50th ePrix race in Formula E history, Sam Bird of Envision Virgin was named the winner but due to a clash with Andre Lotterer, he was penalized and had his win revoked, leaving Edoardo Mortara of Venturi, who was placed 2nd, promoted to first place while Lucas di Grassi of Audi Sport Abt Schaeffler, who placed 3rd, was promoted to 2nd.

After Hong Kong, Bird and Jerome D'Ambrosio are now a point apart in the standings, 54 to 53.

ABB FIA Formula E S5: Mexico City ePrix

The Mexico City ePrix of the fifth season of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship is becoming one of the most intense races in history, and it's so intense, the endgame is going to be worth remembering for the fans.

While Nelson Piquet Jr.'s huge crash involving Jean-Eric Vergne and Alexander Sims is someone made this race tense although the drivers were fine but the red flag was dropped, what's even more intense is the endgame as just as we thought Pascal Wehlrein's going to defend his lead from Lucas di Grassi with only a few seconds of charge left to go before his final sprint to the finish line, the juice is out for Wehlrein and Di Grassi snagged the checkered flag from him, making him the winner of this season's Mexico City ePrix. Antonio Felix da Costa finished 2nd and Edoardo Mortana's in 3rd place.

The Audi contender made a big upset at Mexico City as well as setting this race's best lap time of 1:01.277. With Mexico ePrix all wrapped up, let's check the standings. So far, Jerome D'Ambrosio leads with 53 points while Da Costa's in 2nd with 46 points and Sam Bird's a point behind da Costa.

The next race is at Hong Kong this 10th of March.

ABB FIA Formula E S5: Santiago ePrix

The 5th season of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship continues in Santiago, Chile, for the third race of the season where things continue to heat up in this all-electric street racing series, literally.

The Santiago ePrix has became the hottest race in Formula E history in more ways than one apart from the scorching temperatures happening in Santiago. From collision courses like in the case of Stoffel Vandoorne crashed out from the race, to heated moments like Envision Virgin's Sam Bird used ATTACK MODE to overtake Mahindra's Pascal Wehlrein, this hot race really sums up real good.

Sam Bird climbed up form 4th to take a stunning win at the Santiago ePrix while Wehlrein is finished second in only his second ever race. Daniel Abt completes the podium in 3rd.

Highlights:

The next race is on Mexico City on the 16th of February.

ABB FIA Formula E S5: Marrakesh ePrix

The ABB FIA Formula E Championship really rings in the new year with a chaotic race held at the streets of Marrakesh, Morocco, and why the race became chaotic for the drivers? Here's how it sums up...

The chaotic Marrakesh ePrix sums up in numerous moments; there was last season's winner Jean-Eric Vergne got spun in the first corner, and then, the two BMW drivers, Sims and Da Costa, got involved in the collision where Sims pushed Da Costa to the wall. What a mess this race is but despite the messy Marrakesh race, only the strong and defiant managed to survive the ruckus.

There was this race's winner Jerome D'Ambrosio of Mahindra, who started 10th and won the race, Robin Frijns of Envision Virgin, who made an aggressive drive from 8th to 2nd, and Sam Bird of Envision Virgin, placing 3rd.

Next race is on Santiago, Chile, on the 26th of January, 2019.

ABB FIA Formula E S5: Ad Diriyah ePrix

It's the dawn of a new generation of FIA Formula E racing as the fifth season signals the beginning of the all-new GEN2 machines that are sleeker, more quicker, and more stylish than the old GEN1 cars. Apart from the new machines, the rules have changed so that all the races are now endurance-based and drivers need to rely on attack modes to trump opponents and charge for first place. Sounds complicating but it makes the new era more exciting.

The new season begins in a brand new location and it's located at Ad Diriyah, Saudi Arabia. The start of a new ePrix in the Middle East in the start of the new season? Now that's a plus and the opener's never been more exciting than ever. With new and returning teams assembled on the grid, who will be this season's victor?

In the season opener, Antonio Felix Da Costa, representing the brand new BMW i Andretti Motorsport, is the first to win the inaugural Ad Diriyah ePrix while last season's winner, Jean-Eric Vergne, representing DS TECHEETAH Formula E Team, placed 2nd, and Mahindra's Jerome D'Ambrosio placed 3rd, completing the first podium of the new season. Man, that 1:17.728 pole position Da Costa set in the qualifiers really paid off despite rainy conditions unheard in Saudi.

Next race is at Marrakesh, Morocco on the 12th of January, 2019.
