Sanya ePrix |
In a statement released by the FIA, this season's Sanya E-Prix, originally to take place on the 21st of March, 2020, has been cancelled in view of the continued spread of coronavirus and "after close consultation with the relevant departments of Hainan Province and Sanya Municipal Government". This comes after the World Health Organization declared an international emergency in the wake of the 2019-nCoV outbreak.
The Sanya E-Prix was first introduced in Season 5 of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship, where Jean-Eric Vergne of DSTECHEETAH, the two-time Formula E champion, won the first-ever Sanya ePrix, to be followed by Oliver Rowland representing Nissan and Antonio Felix Da Costa representing BMW i.
It is unclear what will happen on the other international races happening in China in the wake of the nCoV outbreack such as the Chinese Grand Prix of Formula 1 and the Race of China Ningbo of the FIA WTCR. Until then, stay tuned.
The ABB FIA Formula E Championship is currently on its sixth season and the next race will be at Mexico City on the 15th of February.
