Nissan Caravan E26 (2022 minor change)

Since its 2012 launch, the NV350 Caravan (E26) made to be the most fuel-efficient and stylish Japanese commercial ever made, making it the fitting choice for Japanese families and entrepreneurs. For the 2022 model year, the E26 has been revised with a new look and a new name. It's no longer called the NV350 Caravan. It's now back as the Nissan Caravan or Urvan in some countries.

The Nissan Caravan E26 has been revised for the 2022 model year. Priced at 2,412,300 yen plus additional costs, it features numerous improvements to keep Nissan's answer to the ancient Toyota Hiace prepped for more.

Beginning with the exterior, the latest minor change features a revised front face that proudly wears the new Nissan logo that first debuted on the Ariya electric crossover. At the back, well, you can see the new Nissan logo on it and that's pretty much it.

Like before, the new Nissan Caravan is offered in various configurations such as the van model suitable for the small business owners, the wagon model fit for ten people, the widebody variant, the 14-seater microbus variant for your UV Express needs, the multi-head variant for the outdoorsmen, the transporter model for your bike, the cargo model for delivery use, the LV model for the handicapped, and for the more serious adventurers, the ProStyle variant.

The interior has been slightly revised for the facelift as well. On the driver's side, it now dons an identical steering wheel that has been featured in numerous Nissan models of today as well as the enlarged fine vision meter for added visibility. They've even revamped the seating to make it more comfortable than the previous model and apart from that, the new interior's less prone to bacteria as well thanks to some extensive use of antibacterial material implemented to the revised interior.

Buried under the driver's seat just like the ancient Toyota Hiace, the new Caravan E26 is powered by a choice of a 2.0L and 2.5L petrol engine with the latter producing 147PS of power, 213Nm of torque, and has a fuel economy of up to 8.7kmpl on the WLTC scale. Both engines are now mated to a 7-speed automatic gearbox with a manual mode for those who are in a mood for shifting. A diesel variant will come later.

Like the previous model, the new Caravan E26 is rear-wheel-drive by default but it can be offered with a part-time 4WD system that can be engaged at the push of the button. Handy if you want to go rough elsewhere.

In the issue of safety, the intelligent emergency brake is now standard for all models, and depending on the variant, the new Caravan comes with an intelligent room mirror and intelligent around-view monitor so it can fully exploit its safety features unheard for a boxy van like this. Couple that with numerous driving aids such as the omnidirectional driving support system, LDW, misstep collision prevention assist, sign detection function, and high beam assist, and you got yourself the safest Caravan ever made for the new normal.

The Caravan E26 is almost a decade old but with the latest minor change, it truly defies its age in order to keep itself prepped for the new normal. For those who think that the current Toyota Hiace is as ancient as Sazae-san, consider the facelifted E26 Caravan as your best alternative. The more you know.
