Subaru Trailseeker

The Subaru Trailseeker is the all-electric successor to the now-defunct Legacy Outback, which saw the Solterra stretched to provide more boot space, giving it more ways to enjoy it.

2027 Subaru Trailseeker

Starting at 5,390,000 Japanese Yen, plus additional costs, the first-ever Subaru Trailseeker is an all-electric sport utility wagon. It delivers the same capabilities as its shorter counterpart, the Solterra, but with a larger boot for storage. It is comparable to its Toyota equivalent, the bZ4X Touring.

2027 Subaru Trailseeker interior

At first glance, the Trailseeker resembles the recently facelifted Solterra released last year. However, it features an extended wheelbase and a unique rear design to set it apart. The Trailseeker is 140 mm longer and 20 mm taller, with overall dimensions of 4,830 mm in length and 1,670 mm in height. These changes increase the load compartment capacity by more than a third, adding an extra 148 liters for a total capacity of 600 liters. Sadly, like the Solterra, no yoke. Boo...

2027 Subaru Trailseeker

The Trailseeker features an upgraded electric powertrain with a 74.7 kWh lithium-ion battery (gross capacity). The front-wheel-drive version has a targeted maximum output of 224 PS, while the all-wheel-drive variant boasts an impressive 380 PS, making it the most powerful battery electric vehicle (BEV) offered by Subaru.

In terms of range, the front-wheel-drive model can achieve 734 km, while the all-wheel-drive version with Subaru's X-MODE is rated for 690 km.

Despite its increased cargo space, the Trailseeker drives like a typical crossover for everyday use. It benefits from features such as rack and pinion steering, front struts, rear double wishbone suspension, and ventilated disc brakes. While it may not deliver the exhilarating ride some might expect, it remains pleasant to drive and feels quite conventional.

Regarding safety, the Trailseeker is equipped with a variety of features, including Pre-Crash Safety, a Blind Spot Monitor, and Advanced Parking Assistance, among others.

The first-ever Subaru Trailseeker is the all-electric replacement to the now-defunct Legacy Outback, made for all walks of life, whether for business or leisure. Although more expensive than the MGS6, its high quality is what made it a standout. Yes, it's that familiar feeling since the Toyota bZ4X Touring equivalent a while back.

Available Colors: Crystal White Pearl, Magnetite Gray Metallic, Crystal Black Silica, Sapphire Blue Pearl, Deep Lake Blue Pearl, and Brilliant Bronze Metallic.

Toyota Tundra (VXKA75L)

The Toyota Tundra is often seen as Toyota's response to American trucks like the Ford F-150, Chevrolet Silverado, and RAM 1500. While it may never surpass the F-150 in sales, it has gained popularity among Republican-leaning Americans, particularly in red states, especially Texas, where it was made. Additionally, the Tundra has become a favored choice for competitors participating in the NASCAR Truck Series. Now, the Republican-leaning Toyota has officially arrived in Japan as an exclusive product of Toyota Mobility Tokyo, not as a grey import.

2026 Toyota Tundra

2026 Toyota Tundra
2026 Toyota Tundra interior

The fully-imported third-generation Toyota Tundra is now available in Japan exclusively from Toyota Mobility Tokyo, rather than as a grey import. This development is a gesture of goodwill towards Japan-US trade relations, especially considering the punishing tariffs on foreign imports to the US that were implemented during the Trump administration. In summary, this situation reflects the complexities of international trade.

The Toyota Tundra offered in the Japanese market is the 1794 Edition. Named after the Texas ranch where Toyota's San Antonio plant now sits, it features a unique brushed aluminum grille, 20-inch machine-finished wheels, and 1794 Edition badging. Judging by its size, it is the largest pickup truck Toyota has offered. It makes the upcoming Hilux look like a Tonka toy for tots.

Unlike past Toyota models that are imported from the U.S. (from the Avalon to the Pontiac Vibe-based Voltz), the Tundra is available only in left-hand-drive configurations. This design choice is made because the Tundra is considered too flashy for Japanese roads, where most vehicles are driven on the left side. The driver’s side of the Tundra is equipped with a 14-inch touchscreen that supports smartphone connectivity, a 12.3-inch TFT display, climate control features, USB-C ports, and more. In terms of comfort, it offers the same luxurious amenities found in high-end SUVs. Not bad for a truck priced at 12 million yen. It is offered only in a four-door CrewMax configuration with a 5.5-foot bed.

Powering the Tundra is the new V35A i-FORCE 3.4L Twin-Turbo V6 engine, producing 394PS of power and 649Nm of torque. It is mated exclusively with a 10-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission with intelligence and sequential shift mode.

The Tundra comes with a front double wishbone suspension, a rear coil spring multilink setup, ventilated disc brakes, and a part-time 4WD system. This versatile system allows drivers to switch between various settings, making it suitable for navigating Tokyo traffic or tackling off-road trails in Hokkaido. Additionally, it is equipped with advanced safety features, including the Panoramic View Monitor, Straight Path Assist, and the latest Toyota Safety Sense systems, among others.

The 12,000,000 Yen fully-imported Toyota Tundra is all about bringing its American blend to Japanese off-road enthusiasts with its macho exterior, luxury interior, technology, and the i-FORCE engine that can embarrass the Hilux by a long shot. Ready or not, this Texas treat is ready to roll.

Starting at 5,750,000 Japanese Yen plus additional costs, the first-ever Toyota bZ4X Touring may be more costly to own than its main rival, the MGS5-based MGS6, but in terms of quality, it stands out.

At first glance, the Touring variant resembles the recently facelifted bZ4X released last year. However, it features an extended wheelbase and a unique rear design to set it apart. The Touring variant is 140 mm longer and 20 mm taller, with overall dimensions of 4,830 mm in length and 1,670 mm in height. These changes increase the load compartment capacity by more than a third, adding an extra 148 liters for a total capacity of 600 liters. Sadly, like the normal bZ4X, no yoke. Boo...

The bZ4X Touring, like the standard model, features an upgraded electric powertrain with a 74.7 kWh lithium-ion battery (gross capacity). The front-wheel-drive version has a targeted maximum output of 224 PS, while the all-wheel-drive bZ4X Touring boasts an impressive 380 PS, making it the most powerful battery electric vehicle (BEV) offered by Toyota.

Asked about range, the front-wheel-drive model is good for 734km while the 4WD model with Subaru's X-MODE is good for 690km.

Despite its added boot space, the bZ4X Touring performs like a typical crossover for daily driving. It benefits from features like Rack and Pinion steering, front struts, rear double wishbones, and ventilated disc brakes. While it may not provide the exciting ride one might hope for, it remains pleasant to drive and feels quite conventional.

In terms of safety, the bZ4X Touring is equipped with a variety of safety features, including Pre-Crash Safety, a Blind Spot Monitor, and Advanced Parking Assistance, among others.

The bZ4X Touring is the newest member of the bZ4X series that offers the same capability as its shorter equivalent but with a bigger boot to store. This is the most capable bZ4X ever made for all walks of life, whether for business or leisure. Although more expensive than the MGS6, its high quality of Toyota-ism is what made this bZ4X Touring a standout.

2026MY Lexus RZ

First launched two years ago, the Lexus original EV, the RZ, has been updated for the 2026 model year. However, you won't find anything outside of it because most of the major changes come from within.

2026 Lexus RZ
2026 Lexus RZ

Now starting at 7,900,000 Japanese Yen plus additional costs, the Lexus RZ was made even better. No, you won't find any changes outside except for the fact that the range-topper model, the RZ550e F SPORT, features a two-tone exterior paint.

2026 Lexus RZ
2026 Lexus RZ interior

The interior of the RZ models, including the front-wheel-drive RZ350e Version L and the 4WD RZ500e Version L, remains unchanged. It features a conventional steering wheel, rotary shift selector, compact air conditioning, digital rear-view mirror, a 14-inch touchscreen with voice activation, and USB-C connectivity. The RZ accommodates up to five passengers and is designed for VIP transport rather than as a people carrier. It offers 522 liters of boot space with the rear seats up and up to 1451 liters when they are folded down, along with features like a hands-free power back door and a hidden deck board for utility.

The RZ550e F SPORT introduces the One Motion Grip yoke steering wheel, which aims to reduce stress and enhance driver engagement, making it a noteworthy feature despite being controversial.

2026 Lexus RZ
2026 Lexus RZ

2026 Lexus RZ
2026 Lexus RZ

The EV powertrain and the dynamics are heavily revised in this latest Lexus RZ update. The lower front suspension was trimmed down for weight-saving measures while implementing new internal parts in the hub bearing and repositioning the steering gearbox. In the case of the RZ500e and the RZ550e F SPORT, the DIRECT4 has been revamped for better traction and stability performance.

Combined with the revamped suspension setup, the revised DIRECT4 system, and the RZ550e F SPORT-exclusive One Motion Grip steer-by-wire system, the dynamics have never been so alive.

The electric vehicle (EV) powertrains have been recalibrated thanks to a new 77 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The front-wheel-drive RZ350e produces 167KW of power and boasts a driving range of 733 km. In contrast, the all-wheel-drive RZ500e and RZ550e F SPORT models feature an additional 167KW electric motor at the rear. In terms of driving range, the RZ500e can travel up to 629 km, while the RZ550e F SPORT can cover 582 km.

Another exclusive to the RZ550e F SPORT is the controversial new Interactive Manual Drive, which allows the driver to engage its 8-speed Manual Mode, giving them a video game-like experience while going behind the wheel. Fake gearshifts are nothing new for an electric car like this, but this cheesy feature can surely come in handy.

2026 Lexus RZ 600e F SPORT Performance
2026 Lexus RZ600e F SPORT Performance

To enhance the RZ's electric performance, a limited edition RZ 600e F SPORT Performance was introduced in very limited quantities. Priced at 12,165,000 Yen, plus additional costs, it is based on the RZ550e F SPORT variant but features unique aerodynamic updates and an extra 13 kW of power, bringing its total to 313 kW.

Like before, the Lexus RZ features a wide array of advanced safety features such as a Pre-Collision System, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert and Lane Tracing Assist, Lane Change Assist, Driver Monitor, Proactive Driving Assist, and more.

With major updates underneath and the addition of the RZ550e F SPORT with fake gearshifts, the Lexus RZ is becoming more razor-sharp than ever. With this one, Lexus's road to electrification definitely won't have its last word. This is what the Lexus RZ should have been from the start.

Sixth-Generation Toyota RAV4

The sixth-generation Toyota RAV4 is the first RAV4 model to be made within the Reiwa era; the previous model, launched in April 2019, is the last Heisei era RAV4. Long story short, but here we are, the forefather of the crossover SUV boom has been regenerated for touring in mind.

2026 Toyota RAV4
2026 Toyota RAV4

The all-new, sixth-generation Toyota RAV4 starts at 4,500,000 Yen plus additional costs. What you get is a completely new take on the forefather of the crossover SUV boom that focuses more on touring in mind while delivering the same RAV4 experience carried over from its predecessors.

2026 Toyota RAV4
2026 Toyota RAV4

Beginning with the exterior, the all-new model features a boxy silhouette akin to one of its big brothers, the Toyota Land Cruiser 250, while incorporating the current hammerhead look that Toyota shamelessly stole from Ferrari for today's models. The rear view, meanwhile, can be easily mistaken for the Nissan X-Trail, one of its key rivals.

The basic Z model is styled to look like the Toyota Crown SUVs, while the Adventure model features a more rugged design and a hexagonal front face to make its tough statement.

Inside, the all-new RAV4 features a new center stack, shift-by-wire system, 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, and others. Although it's still as spacious as before, the all-new RAV4 comes with a new rear seatback that can be folded flat to increase cargo space and the optional hands-free power liftgate with expanded detection area for better convenience.

With tech as its core, the all-new RAV4 is the first Toyota to be powered by the Arene software development platform. Powered by AI, the new multimedia system delivers enhanced connectivity, navigation, and security tools with a faster processing rate than before.

2026 Toyota RAV4
2026 Toyota RAV4 GR SPORT

The all-new RAV4 is built on the same TNGA-K unibody platform as the previous model but is now exclusively available in an e-Four Hybrid 4WD configuration. It features the A25A-FXS 1.5-liter inline-four cylinder engine, which is paired with two motor-generators via a planetary-type continuously variable transmission (CVT) and a nickel battery. This powertrain delivers a total output of 240 PS and achieves a fuel economy of 22.9 km/L based on WLTC mode standards.

In addition to its EV mode, the all-new RAV4 comes with a Drive Mode Select that includes TRAIL mode and SNOW mode. It also introduces a new Electronically-Controlled Brake system, which enhances performance on rough terrain.

By 2026, a more powerful RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid (PHV) and the first-ever RAV4 GR SPORT will be added to the lineup, boasting over 300 PS of total power output.

Thanks to its Arene software, the advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) in the all-new RAV4 have been significantly improved. Arene supports the latest Toyota Teammate systems, including a new generation of Toyota Safety Sense, which features Front Cross Traffic Alert, enhanced Lane Change Assist, an updated Pre-Collision System, and over-the-air (OTA) software updates, among other advancements.

The all-new sixth-generation Toyota RAV4 continues its over three-decade legacy while incorporating a wealth of innovative features to ensure practicality for the long journey ahead. While some aspects may be controversial, the RAV4 effectively balances tradition with modernity. This is what the new normal looks like.

Subaru Solterra (2026MY Facelift)

The Subaru Solterra, the Subaru version of the Toyota bZ4X all-electric crossover, has gained its minor change following the Toyota bZ4X's facelift a few moments ago. Let's find out how much improvement this revised version has.

2026 Subaru Solterra
2026 Subaru Solterra

2026 Subaru Solterra

Starting at 5.17 million yen plus additional costs, the updated Subaru Solterra is all about reintroducing to the public the Subaru equivalent of the recently facelifted Toyota bZ4X, which is now available for private ownership. Compared to the Toyota equivalent, the updated Solterra features an updated front face that is crisp and fresh compared to the pre-facelift version. At the back, what a surprise. Subaru ditched the logo in favor of the SUBARU lettering, just like every Subaru model made from the 1990s.

2026 Subaru Solterra
2026 Subaru Solterra interior

While the exterior design's been revised to keep it fresh for its potential owners, it's the new interior layout that makes a statement. Pity that Subaru canned the option to have a yoke in it (boo...), but amid the dashboard changes, the boot space is still good for 452 liters with the rear seats present.

2026 Subaru Solterra
2026 Subaru Solterra

The EV powertrain gets a shakeup for the recent facelift. The front-wheel-drive ET-SS features a 73kWh battery with 224PS of power and 746km of driving range. The alpha of the range is the 4WD ET-HS with the same 73kWh battery but with an extra electric motor, producing a powerful 342PS and 687km of driving range.

The shakeup of the Solterra's powertrain is thanks to its new eAxle with silicon carbide semiconductors for greater efficiency and higher power while also being lighter and more compact.

For a car that weighs over two tons, the Solterra behaves like a normal crossover daily thanks to its Rack and Pinion steering, front struts, rear double wishbones, and ventilated disc brakes. It's not an enjoyable ride as expected, but it feels nice to drive and downright as regular as a regular show.

In terms of safety, the Solterra is packed with safety features such as Pre-Crash Safety, Blind Spot Monitor, and Advanced Park, among many others.

So, there you have it. If you want a Toyota bZ4X but your nearest dealership is a Subaru, the updated Solterra is your bet. With its updated EV powertrain and crisp design, the new Solterra is about taking a different approach to its familiar formula.

Suzuki e VITARA vs Toyota bZ4X

For the first time ever, Suzuki has launched its first-ever EV, the e VITARA. So, what's it all about, the Suzuki e-VITARA?

2026 Suzuki e VITARA
2026 Suzuki e VITARA

Starting at 3,993,000 Japanese Yen plus additional costs, the Suzuki e VITARA is the company's first electric vehicle as it braces the electrification trend that most carmakers are embracing in this unstable era we live in. It goes without saying that this is the fourth time Suzuki has imported this from India's Maruti Suzuki production line. Long before its arrival, the currently available India-made Suzukis sold in Japan are the Fronx and the 5-door Jimny Nomade.

2026 Suzuki e VITARA
2026 Suzuki e VITARA

2026 Suzuki e VITARA
2026 Suzuki e VITARA interior

Beginning with the styling, the e VITARA draws inspiration from the eVX Concept, albeit with some notable differences. Yes, the back and the sidelines mimic the concept's looks; the front face didn't adopt the eVX's front and went for a front similar to a certain not-for-Japan Toyota SUV from a long time ago. Long story short, but you have to give credit to the design team for such a simple but rugged look.

Inside, the e VITARA's dashboard bears an auspiciously similar appearance to the pre-facelifted Kia Sorento MQ4 of 2020. Appearances aside, the driver's side is packed with ambient lighting with multi-color illumination, a 26.04cm multi-information display that combines the virtual instrumental panel and the touch-screen sat-nav system, a twin deck floating console with Shift-by-Wire, and a wireless charger, among others. On the passenger side, because it's bigger than a Daihatsu Rocky, the boot space is a default 310 liters with the rear seats present and up to 1052 liters with all passenger seats folded.

2026 Suzuki e VITARA
2026 Suzuki e VITARA

Running on a newly developed HEARTECT-e platform made exclusively for BEVs, the e VITARA offers two battery packs. The entry-level front-wheel-drive X variant is equipped with a 49kWh LFP battery that produces 144PS of power, 193Nm of torque, and up to 433km of driving range. The range-topping 4WD Z variant features a 61kWh LFP battery and an extra electric motor, producing 184PS of power, 307Nm of torque, and 472km of driving range, although the FF Z variant with the said battery minus the extra motor can do it in 520km.

Bringing common sense to its drivability, the e VITARA comes with Rack & Pinion Power Steering, front MacPherson struts, rear multilink suspension, and ventilated disc brakes. It behaves normally as a front-wheel-drive variant, but with the ALLGRIP-e for the 4WD Z variant, it performs like a beast, just as the Indians said upon experiencing it firsthand. As for safety, Level 2 ADAS features are present as well as familiar safety features such as high tensile steel strength, tire pressure monitoring system, 360-view camera, parking sensors, electronic parking brake, and brake hold.

From concept turned reality, the e VITARA is all about its polyhedral muscular stance, futuristic and spacious cabin, it performs like a beast, and safety beyond imagination. This is what Suzuki's first EV sums up, but can it keep up against Toyota's first EV, the bZ4X?

2026 Toyota bZ4X
2026 Toyota bZ4X

Formely a lease-only car that you can still rent via the KINTO subscription service, the new Toyota bZ4X is now ripe for private ownership, starting at 4,800,000 Japanese Yen plus additional costs.

2026 Toyota bZ4X
2026 Toyota bZ4X

2026 Toyota bZ4X
2026 Toyota bZ4X interior

The facelifted bZ4X is now officially available for ownership, although you can still lease one via KINTO if you want.

While the exterior design's been revised to keep it fresh for its potential owners, it's the new interior layout that makes a statement. Pity that Toyota canned the option to have a yoke in it (boo...), but amid the dashboard changes, the boot space is still good for 452 liters with the rear seats present.

The EV powertrain gets a shakeup for the recent facelift. The entry-level G model features a 58kWh Lithium battery packing 167PS of power and 544km. The front-wheel-drive Z, meanwhile, features a 73kWh battery with 224PS of power and 687km of driving range. The alpha of the range is the 4WD Z lineup with the same 73kWh battery but with an extra electric motor, producing a powerful 342PS and 687km of driving range.

The shakeup of the bZ4X's powertrain is thanks to its new eAxle with silicon carbide semiconductors for greater efficiency and higher power while also being lighter and more compact.

For a car that weighs over two tons, the bZ4X behaves like a normal crossover on a daily basis thanks to its Rack and Pinion steering, front struts, rear double wishbones, and ventilated disc brakes. It's not an enjoyable ride as expected, but it feels nice to drive and downright as regular as a regular show.

In terms of safety, the bZ4X is packed with safety features such as Pre-Crash Safety, Blind Spot Monitor, and Toyota Teammate Advanced Park, among many others.

To get the most out of the new bZ4X, this car is qualified for TEEMO, a new charging service that begins at Toyota and Lexus dealerships with a rich network Japan-wide. No admission fee is required, and the monthly basic fee is free. The required cost is only for the time you actually use it, so there is no charge for the month you do not use TEEMO. The TEEMO service is not limited only to Toyota and Lexus EVs like the new bZ4X but also to EVs from most manufacturers. In addition, TEEMO members can also use e-Mobility Power-linked chargers across Japan.

So, which one would you choose? The first-ever Suzuki e VITARA for its reasonable price and sizing, or the updated Toyota bZ4X that poses greater value and user-friendliness? Can't say which, but if it's value you want, it's the Suzuki e VITARA, but if you want everything for an EV crossover, go stick with the Toyota bZ4X that you can now fully own.

Toyota Aqua - Second Generation (2026MY Facelift)

Launched four years ago, the second-generation Toyota Aqua proved that Toyota's reasonably priced hybrid is pretty much alive and became the ideal new car for the new normal. Now updated for the 2026 Model Year, this latest minor change is high time to reintroduce the second-generation Toyota Aqua to the motoring public.

2026 Toyota Aqua
2026 Toyota Aqua

Now starting at 2,486,000 Yen plus additional costs, the updated second-generation Aqua is a far cry from being a reasonably priced hybrid because of that massive MSRP hike, meaning it's more expensive to own than the hybrid variant of the Toyota Yaris, but it's still more affordable than today's Toyota Prius. It's still reasonable even in hard times.

2026 Toyota Aqua
2026 Toyota Aqua interior

Beginning with the exterior design, the Aqua now dons the hammerhead front face that most modern-day Toyotas (or Ferraris) have, while the rear taillights have been slightly revamped. The interior has been slightly revised with a slightly bigger touchscreen, a recalibrated dashboard, and a revised instrument cluster. Despite revisions, it still works and feels just like before.

2026 Toyota Aqua
2026 Toyota Aqua

Like before, the Aqua runs on a similar TNGA compact platform as well as front MacPherson struts, rear Torsion beam for FF models or Double Wishbones for 4WD models, front ventilated disc brakes, and rear reading trailing drum brakes. Although not as sophisticated and fun to drive as the European hatches, it still has checks and balances to give drivers a more relaxing driving feel all the time.

Under the hood, the Aqua runs on the 1.5L Dynamic Force engine bolted to an electric motor and a nickel metal battery for all models. No more bipolar batteries, boo. Mated to a CVT, FF models have a fuel economy of 34.3km/L while e-Four models have 30km/L based on WLTC mode standards.

In terms of safety, the Aqua features a wide range of safety techs such as the Pre-Crash Safety System, Radar Cruise Control, and the Toyota Teammate, a first for a compact Toyota car, among many others.

Although slightly less fuel-efficient than before, due to the deletion of the bipolar Ni-Mh battery, not to mention the drastic price hike, the updated second-generation Aqua is still packing common sense as the hybrid that costs less than today's Prius.

Every V8-powered Lexus in history

Lexus is the only remaining Japanese car brand that still offers V8-powered vehicles in its lineup. The brand introduced its first V8 model, the SC430, when it launched in Japan two decades ago. As the era of Japanese V8-powered cars concludes, it's time to compile a list of every V8-powered Lexus model released since the brand's arrival in Japan.

2026 Lexus LC500 Pinnacle
2026 Lexus LC500 Pinnacle

SC430 (2005-2010) - The SC430 was one of the first three Lexus models introduced in Japan when the brand launched in its home market in 2005. It replaced the fourth-generation Soarer, while still utilizing the same 4.3 L 3UZ-FE V8 engine paired with a five-speed automatic transmission. Production of the SC ended in 2010.

IS F (2007-2013) - The IS F is the first of Lexus's high-performance F sub-brand, which is made to target the likes of Mercedes-AMG, BMW M, and Audi RS. Based on the second-generation IS, it was powered by a 5.0L direct-injected 2UR-GSE V8 engine producing 423PS of power and 503Nm of torque. It was mated with an 8-speed paddle shift transmission.

LS (4th Generation, 2006-2017) - Launched in Japan in 2006, the Lexus LS serves as the replacement for the Toyota Celsior, and it was the only Lexus luxury saloon in its fleet to have a V8 engine until the arrival of the IS F a year later. The LS460 is powered by a 4.6L V8 (1UR-FSE) engine mated with an 8-speed automatic gearbox, while the LS600h range features a 2UR-FSE (5.0L V8) engine and 1KM electric motor mated to a CVT with Manual Mode. This is the last generation of the Lexus LS to have a V8 engine in it, as the fifth-generation model is powered by a V6 engine.

RC F (2014-2025) - The RC F serves as the successor to the legendary IS F and represents Japan's answer to the BMW M4, offering comparable performance to its German rivals. Under the hood, the RC F is equipped with a 5.0L V8 engine, derived from the IS F, which has been updated to produce 477 PS of power and 530 Nm of torque. It is paired with an 8-speed SPDS transmission.

The 2020MY facelift Lexus RC F, particularly in its Track Edition (known as the Performance Package in Japan), features a slightly enhanced version of the 5.0L V8 engine. This version has been boosted by 5 horsepower and 8 Nm of torque, thanks to a revised intake routing and a lower RPM trigger for the secondary intake opening.

While the standard RC F may not have extensive lightweight materials, the Track Edition (Performance Package) variant benefits from several weight-saving measures. It includes a fixed rear wing, a carbon fiber bonnet, roof, and other aerodynamic components, along with Brembo carbon ceramic brakes and a titanium muffler and tailpipe. As a result, this variant loses between 70 to 80 kg in weight.

Such extensive lightweight work made this variant go from 0-100kph in four seconds, half a second quicker than the pre-facelifted RC F.

With production of the RC range ending this late 2025, the FINAL EDITION was unveiled.

GS F (2015-2018) - The GS F, based on the facelifted third-generation Lexus GS, is the only GS to have a V8 power in it in the form of the all-familiar 5.0L V8 engine sourced from the RC F. The V8 engine produces 477PS of power and 530Nm of torque, mated with an 8-speed SPDS. Fuel consumption is around 8.2 km/L.

LX (2015-2021) - The LX is a full-size luxury off-roader based on the Land Cruiser 200 series. It is powered by a 3UR-FE 5.7L V8 engine that produces 377 PS of power and 534 Nm of torque, with a fuel consumption of 6.5 km/L. The LX comes standard with an 8-speed Super ECT gearbox.

LC (2017-2025) - The design of the Lexus LC is heavily inspired by the LF-LC Concept and marks the brand's first use of Toyota's TNGA platform. It is powered by a 5.0L naturally aspirated V8 engine producing 472 horsepower, paired with a Lexus-first 10-speed automatic transmission. The LC is available as both a coupe and an open-top convertible.

The Lexus LC was the last vehicle from the brand to compete in the Super GT's GT500 class before being replaced by the Toyota GR Supra for the 2020 season. During its three-season stint from 2017 to 2019, the LC 500 became a two-time champion, with the #37 KeePer TOM'S and the #6 WAKO'S 4CR teams securing the titles.

As production of the LC comes to an end, the final model, named PINNACLE, has been unveiled. This special edition will be available in both coupe and convertible variants, with only 100 units of each being produced. A lottery system will be implemented for potential buyers.

Lexus IS 500 F Sport Performance - When the third-generation Lexus IS range received a facelift for the 2021 model year, it became the most attractive IS ever produced. This made it the perfect time for Lexus to introduce its flagship model, the Lexus IS 500 F Sport Performance. Powered by a 5.0L naturally aspirated V8 engine, it produces 480 PS, making it the most powerful naturally aspirated V8-powered Lexus to date. The engine is paired with a familiar 8-speed automatic transmission.

As production of the Lexus IS lineup, along with its RC counterpart, comes to an end in November 2025, the IS 500 F Sport Performance Climax Edition was unveiled. All 500 units of this limited edition have already sold out.

Special Lexus models, such as the Lexus RC F Final Edition, the IS500 Climax Edition, and the LC500 Pinnacle, serve as poignant reminders that the era of Japanese-made V8 cars is coming to a bittersweet close. As their time in this uncertain world approaches its climax, we can take comfort in knowing that these vehicles are among the greatest ever produced in Japan, marking the end of an era for V8 sports cars from the Land of the Rising Sun. While this reality may seem harsh, it reflects the new normal we face. Nevertheless, their legacies will always remain in our hearts and minds.

Two decades of Lexus in Japan, and here we are, witnessing the end of an era where Japan made awesome V8-powered cars like the Lexus RC, the Lexus IS 500, and the Lexus LC 500, among others.

Domo Arigato, Japanese V8 cars. You made us proud.

Lexus LX 700h (VJH310W)

A first in Japan, the full-size hybrid SUV built on a ladder frame is the Lexus LX 700h, which is also the most powerful LX to date.

2025 Lexus LX 700h
2025 Lexus LX 700h interior

The first-ever hybrid variant of the current-generation Lexus LX starts at 15,900,000 Japanese Yen plus additional costs, and although it looks similar to its petrol-powered LX 600 equivalent, which is still available, the hybrid powertrain puts the LX 700h at the top of the Lexus SUV food chain, especially with the addition of the new offroad-oriented OVERTRAIL+ variant.

Let's give you a quick refresher on the current-generation Lexus LX. The LX is often described as bourgeois, primarily due to its larger size, which can be challenging to manage in Japanese and European driving conditions. Its massive front grille is another feature that may overshadow even the most ostentatious BMWs of today. Enthusiasts often criticize cars with large grilles as being unnecessary and silly, yet this has become the new norm. Despite the controversial front design, the LX is the second Lexus model to replace the logo on the back with "LEXUS" lettering, a change first introduced with the second-generation NX crossover as part of the brand's new design direction.

Inside, the all-new LX features two screens on the dashboard, a first for a Lexus vehicle. The top screen is a responsive touchscreen, marking a significant improvement over the previous model that relied solely on the Remote Touch system for selecting modes, which the new model lacks. The bottom screen displays climate controls and driving-related information, providing a more user-friendly interface. However, a notable drawback of the new setup is the fingerprint recognition feature on the engine switch. While designed to enhance security, the implementation can be cumbersome; it's reminiscent of having only one account per person, making it difficult to set up a new account if the original one encounters problems.

In terms of seating, the new LX offers five or seven seats, and for the first time, it has a four-seater variant under the EXECUTIVE tagline. This EXECUTIVE version includes two larger rear seats with extra legroom, specialized climate control features, a multifunction rear console, and an ottoman for added comfort—something that many will appreciate. Regardless of which variant you choose, they all offer more space than their predecessors, as expected.

The V35A-FTS V6 3.5L Twin Turbo engine has been bolted to a 1TM 40kW electric motor and nickel battery, churning out about 457PS of power and 790Nm of torque, making it the most powerful full-size luxury off-roader made in Japan. Mated to a Direct Shift 10AT, fuel economy is around 9.3km/L based on WLTC Mode standards.

The new LX is built on its GA-F platform and features a lightweight, rigid body that enhances performance. With front double wishbones, a rear four-link rigid axle, Active Height Control, and Adaptive Variable Suspension, the LX offers improved handling and ride quality. The all-wheel-drive system, Electric Power Steering, and Electronically Controlled Brake system contribute to its capabilities. Additionally, off-road features like Crawl Control and Multi-Terrain Select make the new LX 700h feel more lively and capable than its predecessor, while still retaining some of its traditional heavyweight off-roader characteristics. It has a distinct American off-roader vibe, especially with the OVERLAND+ variant, which comes equipped with a specially designed differential, allowing the LX 700h to tackle challenging conditions with style and confidence.

As a high-end luxury off-roader made in Japan, the all-new LX 700h is equipped with the Lexus Safety System+, which includes an enhanced suite of safety features such as Pre-Collision System, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Road Sign Assist, Lane Tracing Assist, and BladeScan technology, among others.

The Lexus LX 700h is the first-ever luxury Japanese full-size hybrid off-roader, making it truly unique in its class. No other manufacturer has ventured into this territory, which is a positive attribute for the LX. This model combines the familiar LX features with a powerful hybrid powertrain, elevating it to the top of the Lexus SUV lineup. No one offers a better option.

Toyota Corolla Cross - 2026 facelift

The Toyota Corolla Cross has been around for four years since its 2021 debut on Japanese roads, and as the times demand it, the Corolla Cross was revised for the 2026 model year with the addition of the new GR SPORT variant.

The updated Toyota Corolla Cross starts at 2,760,000 Japanese Yen plus additional costs, so what to expect for the 2026 update of the one heavily debated as either a welcoming addition or treason to the Corolla heritage?

Beginning on the front, the 2026MY Corolla Cross features an updated front fascia with a body-coloured honeycomb grille, with the strip joining the headlights now illuminated. The main lamps have been redesigned with available adaptive LED technology and L-shaped daytime running lights framing illuminated “dashes”. At the back, the LED taillights were revamped with a C-shaped graphic and fins. It even features a wide range of revamped wheels to choose from.

The new GR SPORT variant, which wears a Toyota emblem instead of the Corolla emblem on the front, features a massive octagonal lower grille and rectangular outer trims with a 10 mm lower ride height, 19-inch machined Y-spoke alloys, and gloss black logos.

Inside, the Corolla Cross features a new, wider centre console, gaining a USB-C port, a Qi wireless charger, a sliding storage box, and redesigned cupholders. It still fits up to five people and the boot space slightly packs more room than its hatchback equivalent, the Corolla Sport, because the Cross is longer and wider than the Sport.

2026 Toyota Corolla Cross
2026 Toyota Corolla Cross

Like the entire Corolla range (sedan, Touring Wagon, and Sport hatchback), except for the GR Corolla, no more petrol variants for this update. For the Z, S, and G variants, it features a hybrid powertrain with the 2ZR-FXE 1.8L petrol engine connected to an electric motor and Li-ion battery for front-wheel-drive and e-Four drivetrains. With up to 140PS of total power and CVT in hand, fuel economy is around 26.4km/L for FF variants and 24.6km/L for e-Four variants.

Exclusive to the GR SPORT variant is the 197 PS 2.0L M20A-FXS hybrid powertrain with e-Four, Li-ion battery, and a 10-speed sequential shiftmatic, delivering 23.3km/L of fuel economy based on WLTC Mode standards.

The Corolla Cross, like its counterparts, performs similarly due to its TNGA platform. The suspension setup varies depending on the variant. Front-wheel-drive models feature front MacPherson struts and rear torsion beams with coil springs. In the E-Four variants, the rear suspension is upgraded to a double-wishbone design. Meanwhile, the GR SPORT variant includes a specially designed MacPherson strut front suspension and a double-wishbone rear suspension, both of which offer improved rigidity. Additionally, it features a 4-level Drive Mode select system with SPORT and SNOW EXTRA modes.

Like last time, the Corolla Cross features Toyota Safety Sense as standard, and with a wide array of safety features, it's hard to say if drivers will trust this Corolla SUV for all the reasons.

Is this what the eavesdroppers of this crossover waited for? The facelifted 2026 Toyota Corolla Cross with its hybrid-only lineup, revamped exterior, revised interior, and the new GR SPORT variant? Hope this ends this conversation frankly, but if you want one, so be it.

Lexus GX550 (VJA252W)

The Lexus GX, the smaller sibling of the LX, has finally arrived on Japanese roads. Those who find the Toyota Land Cruiser 250 lacking in power should consider this powerful and luxurious alternative.

2025 Lexus GX
2025 Lexus GX

Priced at 11,950,000 Japanese Yen (roughly $120,000) plus additional costs, the Lexus GX is the more premium alternative to the Toyota Land Cruiser 250 where brute force and first-class comfort matter for this ultra-luxury off-roader capable of mocking Little Miss Sandping in style and comfort.

2025 Lexus GX
2025 Lexus GX

Starting with the exterior, the Lexus GX has a more rugged appearance compared to the Toyota Land Cruiser 250 on which it is based. It also boasts a sharp aesthetic. The same story goes for the offroad-oriented OVERTRAIL+ which comes with the exclusive Moon Desert exterior color, under guard, black arches, bridge-type roof rails, black door panels, and rear center protection. Lexus claims that the GX's design harks back to Toyota's offroad GOAT, the Land Cruiser 70 series. A homage done right, they said.

2025 Lexus GX
2025 Lexus GX interior

The interior of the Lexus GX is a huge contrast to the Land Cruiser 250 donor car because it's meant to be positioned at the Business Class rather than the Economy Class. On the driver's side, the GX features an optional HUD, a standard 12-inch Multimedia Touchscreen Display with Lexus Interface technology, a digital 12.3-inch multi-information display, and others. On the passenger side, the GX seats up to seven people (five for the OVERTRAIL+ variant), and the passenger seats can be folded down for spacing needs. You can fit up to four golf bags with this one.

For sound experience, the GX is offered with the available 21-speaker Mark Levinson Surround Sound for stage-level sound quality on the move.

2025 Lexus GX
2025 Lexus GX

The GX runs on its GA-F platform just like its big brother, the LX. With notable features such as the rigid rear suspension with extended rear wheel articulation, and electric power steering, it behaves like every luxury off-roader should. In the OVERTRAIL+ variant, it's well-armed with all-terrain tires and Lexus-first E-KDSS. The E-KDSS or Electronic Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System can lock or release the front and rear anti-roll bars independently for better offroading. It even comes with Multi-Terrain Select, Crawl Control, and the Multi-Terrain Monitor.

Under the hood, The GX is armed with the same V35A-FTS V6 3.4L Twin Turbo engine as the LX but it's detuned to produce 353PS of power and 650Nm of torque. Mated to the Direct Shift 10AT, fuel economy is around 8.1km/L based on WLTC Mode standards, the same as the LX.

The all-new GX comes equipped with the Lexus Safety System+ 3.0, which includes several advanced features: the Pre-Collision System (PCS) with Pedestrian Detection, All-speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC), Lane Tracing Assist (LTA), Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist (LDA with SA), Road Sign Assist (RSA), and Proactive Driving Assist (PDA).

Those who have already owned the Toyota Land Cruiser 250 may feel regret because the Lexus GX offers many features that its Toyota counterpart lacks. Those who haven't owned one yet might feel envious, wishing they could experience the new GX someday.

From mocking Sandping in the daytime to a night trip to the City of Dreams at nightfall, the Lexus GX has it all. Comfort, technology, and an ounce of brute force. Nobody does it better than this.

Toyota Crown Estate (H38W/H39W)

The introduction of the all-new Toyota Crown Estate completes the quartet of Crown models, which includes the Crown Crossover, the Crown sedan, the Crown Sport, and this one. Now, let's get to know the last addition to this lineup.

2025 Toyota Crown Estate

The all-new Toyota Crown Estate starts at 6,350,000 Japanese Yen plus additional costs. The final entry of the Crown quartet of models is obviously the most spacious, even though it isn't really an Estate, it's a posh crossover that's about as big as the Harrier.

Let's start with the exterior styling. The Crown Estate is a luxury crossover comparable in size to the current-generation Harrier. It features the latest Crown logo, similar to the rest of the lineup, but it showcases the signature Toyota design that has been inspired by Ferrari. From the rear, the vehicle's appearance could easily be mistaken for an RAV4, a Harrier, or a Corolla Cross. As they say, it's all part of the family.

Similar to the entire quartet, the Crown Estate's interior embraces a minimalist approach. The driver's side features advanced technologies such as T-Connect, smartphone connectivity, voice control, a heated steering wheel, and a digital rearview mirror, among others.

The Estate, being the most spacious option among the Crown quartet, offers 570 liters of luggage space with the rear seats in use and 1,470 liters when they are folded down. It also features a brand-new luggage space extension board mechanism, which allows for a completely flat space of two meters in length when the rear seats are retracted—a first for Toyota vehicles.

The Crown Estate is available with two electrified drivetrains. The hybrid Z variant features a 2.5L A25A-FXS Dynamic Force petrol engine paired with two electric motors, producing a total power output of 243 PS. It comes equipped with a nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) battery and an e-CVT gearbox, promising a fuel economy of 20.3 km/L based on WLTC Mode standards.

On the other hand, the plug-in hybrid RS variant utilizes the same 2.5L A25A-FXS petrol hybrid engine as the standard hybrid. However, it is enhanced with powerful electric motor generators, a new lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery mounted under the floor, and an improved heat pump HVAC system, delivering a total power output of 306 PS. This variant also features a CVT gearbox and achieves a combined fuel economy of 20 km/L according to WLTC Mode standards, along with an electric-only driving range of 89 km. That's more efficient than what you get from one of its main rivals, the Mazda CX-60 with e-SKYACTIV PHEV.

Similar to the other Crown SUVs in the lineup, the Crown Estate is built on the TNGA-K platform. Although it is only available with four-wheel drive, its driving experience can be somewhat comparable to that of the Audi Q5. This platform makes the ride less sporty, but it does provide a relaxed driving feel, reminiscent of a leisurely Sunday afternoon, thanks to its front MacPherson struts and rear multilink suspension.

With an emphasis on safety as a key priority, the Crown Estate comes equipped with advanced safety features, including the latest Toyota Safety Sense. This system includes up to 12 advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) features. Additionally, it offers the innovative Toyota Teammate advanced driving system, which includes Radar Cruise Control and Lane Tracing Assist. These technologies enable the crossover to perform semi-autonomous driving, allowing it to navigate busy roads like the Shutokou with ease.

Although the Crown Estate is a treason to the Crown heritage, like the Crossover and Sport variants, it is all about space, luxury, and efficiency in the name of common sense. With the Crown lineup of models officially complete, it's hard to decide which variant is the wisest, but if you're interested in space, the Estate is the best bet. It's misleading by name, but it's a serious, posh crossover fit for all walks of life.
