Things we learned from Pokemon Day 2023

Happy 27th birthday to the Pokemon franchise! February 27th, 2023 marks the 27th anniversary of the Pokemon franchise. From 151 to 1008 Pokemon discovered, the numbers keep on growing as the franchise evolves to greater heights.

The recent Pokemon Presents presentation delivered Pokemon fans worldwide some big announcements. In case you missed it, here's the lowdown from the recent Pokemon Day presentation;

  • Design office nendo, Creatures, and The Pokemon Company teamed up to create Pokemon Trading Card Game Classic, a premium take on the Pokemon card game with iconic features such as the "stackable damage counter".
  • A new Pokemon cartoon show is coming soon to Netflix. It's a stop-motion Pokemon anime show titled Pokemon Concierge.
  • The legendary Pokemon Zacian joins the Pokemon Unite game as a playable Pokemon. Players who completed the special time-limited event will get access to the Zacian Unite License, allowing players to play as Zacian.
  • Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly are coming to Pokemon Cafe Remix. Complete the special event until March 17th and you can keep one of the Paldean starters.
  • Pokemon Masters EX celebrates its 3-and-a-half anniversary with three powerful new trainers waiting to be added to your roster. Galarian trainers Hop, Bede, and Marnie are now donning their Champion costumes with Galarian Zapdos, Galarian Articuno, and Galarian Moltres joining them.
  • Pokemon Sleep will be launched this Summer of 2023.
  • A new Pokemon GO+ Plus gadget was announced and it will hit stores this summer, featuring connectivity for both Pokemon GO and Pokemon Sleep.
  • This year's Pokemon World Championships, to be held in Yokohama, Japan, will take place this August 11-13. Ace trainers of the world get ready.
  • Two new Paradox Pokemons are joining the Pokemon Scarlet/Violet roster! Scarlet players will take on Walking Wake while Violet players will take on Iron Leaves in an ultra-difficult time-limited Tera Raid Battle event. If players succeeded in defeating it, players get one shot to catch the new Paradox Pokemon.
  • Pokemon GO connectivity with Pokemon Scarlet/Violet is now on. Send postcards from Pokemon GO to Scarlet/Violet and you'll catch different Vivillon designs. Thanks to this feature, you now have the chance to catch Gimmighoul in its Roaming Form in Pokemon GO. Collect 999 Gimmighoul Coins and you can evolve it to Gholdengo.
  • Pokemon Scarlet/Violet will be compatible with Pokemon HOME this early 2023.
  • Last and obviously the big one; the two-part expansion for Pokemon Scarlet/Violet has been announced. The first part will be launched this fall while the second part will arrive this winter. Pre-orders have been commenced and players will receive a Hisuian Zoroark as a pre-order present.
And that's everything you need to know, ace trainers. With such big announcements, there's no sign of slowing down the ever-evolving world of Pokemon.

Think you got what it takes to take on such new challenges? I'm looking forward to seeing you try.
