BIOHAZARD RE:2

The start of 1998 saw Capcom terrifying gamers worldwide with BIOHAZARD (Resident Evil) 2, the sequel of the 1996 hit survival horror game that sparked a new genre of survival horror gaming, and fans will never forget the struggle of surviving the zombie-infested Raccoon City from beginning to end as Leon S. Kennedy or Claire Redfield. Two decades later, the nightmare of Raccoon City haunts back to the new generation of gamers as the remake of the 1998 sequel, titled BIOHAZARD RE:2, promises to be as scary as the 1998 original but with menacing twists in store for those who want to reminisce the horror or experience it for the first time.

BIOHAZARD RE:2

From its memorable characters, terrifying zombies and BOWs, and puzzle-solving scenarios, it's no wonder why the folks from CAPCOM decided to bring back BIOHAZARD 2 in a new and even more terrifying remake that what makes this survival horror masterpiece a global phenomenon. Like the original, players will venture the nightmarish Raccoon City as both Leon and Claire. Of course, no matter which character you're playing, this game is played by two sides. For instance, you'll start at Side A as Leon and then move on to Side B as Claire. Simple as that.

The remake uses the tried and tested formula from 2017's Biohazard 7 -resident evil-, which is by no means one of the most terrifying survival horror games of this generation, but they made it even more fluid. Back at being a third-person perspective, players can really see how the characters interact by all means necessary. This remade really means something.

For longtime Biohazard players, it's ideal to know that survival is their responsibility. Fighting against a horde of zombies sounds convincing but in times where ammo is scarce, such tactics won't work and how you will survive the nightmare is completely up to you. Same thing goes to the healing items such as herbs and first aid sprays.

What's new in this remake is the subweapons feature which makes them come in handy while facing off against creatures. The combat knife sure comes it handy but use with caution because by the time you are attacking with it, it might worn out. Apart from the combat knife, there are other subweapons you can use such as flash grenades to blind creatures, giving you time to get away. Apart from subweapons, you might come through planks of wood, which is essential if you don't want zombies breaching through the window.

Little did you know that just like in the original, you can unlock extra games just by finishing the game in both Leon and Claire's sides? First up, there's The 4th Survivor where players navigate Hunk to the extraction point. Second, and weirdly, there's The Tofu Survivor. You probably already know how to unlock these extra modes by now.

When the original Biohazard 2 launched in the start of 1998, this sequel catapulted the Biohazard franchise into a global phenomenon and with the arrival of 2019's RE:2, fans can't wait to return to the horrors of Raccoon City, which became the turning point of the franchise. If you had a death wish, be prepared to pick up this copy right now and survive like it's 1998. Good luck.
