- The Mayon Volcano has recently unleashed a dome eruption, sending powerful pyroclastic density currents.

- The Kanlaon Volcano is spewing ash at around 1458 hours local time.

- The Metro Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council has raised the Red Alert Status in preparation and security for the upcoming Traslacion ng Poong Hesus Nazareno. The alert status is effective from 8 a.m. today and will remain until 8 a.m. on January 10. Under this, the Office of Civil Defense–National Capital Region is closely monitoring and supervising all activities related to the festival, from preparations to the actual procession.

- The Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) will be dissolved on the first day of February 2026, according to Senator Imee Marcos. Atty. Brian Keith Hosaka, executive director of ICI, said that no notification has been received from Malacañang that they will be dissolved in February.

- The only paperwork the son of motoring journalist James Deakin had was from the importer, who was ticketed by the Land Transportation Office after crossing double solid yellow lines, according to Chief Markus Lacanilao. This follows Deakin's complaint that the LTO system is corrupt after his son was charged with a reckless driving violation instead of an improper lane change or disobeying traffic signs.

- The UK and France have agreed to send troops to Ukraine in the event of the peace deal, according to UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, after recent talks.

- The United States is discussing "a range of options" to acquire Greenland, including the use of military force, according to the White House, amid European opposition. A few moments ago, US President Donald Trump said he will further discuss the Greenland issue in "two months" time.

- Toyota will enter the 2026 WEC season under the Toyota Racing banner and their new machine, the TR010 Hybrid Hypercar. This announcement comes as the Toyota Gazoo Racing brand was split into Toyota Racing and Gazoo Racing.
