HOLD IT! Before my quick review, ensure you have already watched the episode. Then, come back here when you have.
As The Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa) and Belinda Chandra (Varada Sethu) arrive in the 30th century, as they're busy setting up with the Vindicator, they've stumbled across the universe's biggest singing competition; the Interstellar Song Contest. Hosted by Rylan (as himself).
Unknown to them, Mrs. Flood is enjoying the show as she sees that the Doctor's Vindicator setup is complete. However, there's one problem. A Hellion named Kid has raided the Harmony Arena to unleash a terror attack in the middle of the contest.
As the arena's air shield pops, the entire audience, including The Doctor, got sucked out from the arena to space.
As Kid unleashed his deadliest weapon, the Delta Wave, Belinda cowered in fear as time was running out. Thankfully, thanks to a mysterious voice, The Doctor sprints towards the confetti cannon and blasts his way through the arena's airlock, only to be saved by two men who were supposed to be in the VIP booth occupied by The Doctor and Belinda a few moments ago.
Racing against time, and with a little cameo from talk show host Graham Norton, The Doctor confronts Kid remotely. Following the confrontation, one of the contestants named Cora Saint Bavier revealed that she was one of the Hellions, like Kid and Wynn. She even revealed the sad fact about their home planet being invaded by a corporation for Hell poppy, the root for Kid's revenge against the corporation.
As time is running out, The Doctor barged through the studio to put an end to Kid's barbarism, using his hologram glove as his weapon. As The Doctor mercilessly beats Kid with the glove, Belinda steps in to stop him.
With the rogue Hellions behind bars, The Doctor, Belinda, and others are throwing everything they've got to save the show, starting with Rylan. With everyone at Harmony Arena saved, the Interstellar Song Contest is back in action, with Cora Saint Bavier, the Hellion, confessing the truth and performing a song.
As The Doctor and Belinda return to the TARDIS, the hologram Graham warns that Earth will be destroyed on May 24, 2025. As the two race against time, Mrs. Flood reveals her true identity. She is...The Time Lady, bigenerated.
The Interstellar Song Contest episode is like "Die Hard" meets "Eurovision" as the Whoniverse gets into the Eurovision spirit (congrats, Austria!) with terrorizing results.
Yes, an alien terrorist goes by Kid the Hellion did cause havoc, but it's not just Kid that causes the terror attack in Harmony Arena, it's The Doctor's dark side that shocked viewers as demonstrated by mercilessly beating Kid with his new hologram glove.
What's shocking in this episode is the sudden appearance of the mysterious woman from The Doctor's mind. Could that be Susan? Anyway, the mysterious woman wasn't the least of the problems because the epilogue finally unmasks Mrs. Flood's true identity.
Brace yourselves. The last two episodes spell doom for the Whoniverse with the return of... the one who is meant to be dead.
NEXT TIME: On May 24, 2025, Belinda Chandra departed from Earth. This date also marks the day Earth was destroyed, as foretold by The Rani. The countdown to disaster begins with the first part of the Season 2 finale, titled "Wish World." "Let battle begin."
