The 15th Doctor is back for his second outing and this time, he joins forces with a new companion named Belinda Chandra. Their opening salvo involves...The Robot Revolution.
Doctor Who S2E1 |
HOLD IT! Before my quick review, ensure you have already watched the episode. Then, come back here when you have.
The story begins when Belinda Chandra, played by Varada Sethu, gets abducted by robots claiming her as their...queen. As The Doctor, played by Ncuti Gatwa, pursues Belnda's captors, the pursuit ends up on a planet called...Missbelindachandra, a planet overrun by robots.
Resorting to cryptic measures because "robots cannot hear every ninth word", The Doctor rescues Belinda as the citizens begin attacking the robots.
With the rebels keeping them safe, The Doctor introduces Belinda to who he really is, which astonishes her, although The Doctor finds something familiar about...her.
As the robot attack continues, Belinda resorts to something that will jeopardize not just her but the refugees as well. She lured the robots and submitted herself to the AI Generator. As Belinda submits herself, the AI Generator reveals its true identity; Alan Budd. The man Belinda dumped 17 years ago.
To stop Alan's madness, Belinda has no choice but to offer her diploma to Alan. As The Doctor stops her, realities between Belinda and Alan are flashed and Alan disappears without a trace...thanks to the Time Fracture trickery.
With the planet free from Alan Budd's wrath, the citizens and the robots have finally come in peace and The Doctor got his TARDIS back. All that's left is...will he bring Belinda Chandra home?
The season premiere of The 15th Doctor's second voyage provides a decent introduction to Belinda Chandra, who emerges as a new ally, albeit initially as a damsel in distress.
Her abduction by the so-called Missbelindachandrabots is impressive, and their attacks are surprisingly formidable, putting the Daleks to shame. These bots are as deadly as the Daleks, though their design is reminiscent of the one seen in the episode where The 12th Doctor met River Song several years ago.
With The Doctor and Belinda having taken their first steps, we can anticipate more from them in the coming weeks as we build up to what Mrs. Flood referred to as the "absolute terror." We still don't know what that entails, but the ending of the first episode serves as a clue.
NEXT TIME: A terrifying cartoon character in 1950s Miami lurking havoc...
