2021 NTT IndyCar Series - Big Machine Spiked Coolers Grand Prix

The IMS Road Course roars back to life with two of America's favorite motoring pastimes, IndyCar and NASCAR, returned to the Brickyard with a bold new twist awaiting drivers. The IMS race weekend begins with IndyCar for the Big Machine Spiked Coolers Grand Prix.

IndyCar's second outing at the IMS Road Course kicked off with Pato O'Ward leading the pack as the pole-sitter but the opener is met with some early troubles in store for the drivers. Come Lap 12, Chilton and Newgarden went off-track while trying to clash with each other. In Lap 18, Will Power storms into the lead. In Lap 22, Colton Herta and Pato O'Ward face each other. In Lap 62, there are plenty of pit stop dramas in store. In Lap 68, Alex Palou's day at Indy is done because of mechanical failures. With 14 laps to go, the race is getting one-sided until Lap 78 saw Rinus Veekay got nudged, stopped, and the caution is triggered. As the race restarted for one final time, this is getting too close to call.

After an intense 85-lap thriller at the Brickyard, Will Power got his 40th career win while Romain Grosjean finished 2nd and Colton Herta finished 3rd.

After their second outing at Indianapolis, Alex Palou is still in the lead with 415 points, followed by Pato O'Ward with 394 points, and Scott Dixon's in 3rd with 381 points.

With only four races left this season, the fight for the title is getting too close to call. Find out what happens next as the 2021 NTT IndyCar Series continues at World Wide Technology Raceway for the Bommarito Automotive Group 500 this August 21st.
