- Philippine Vice President Sara Duterte gave the PH Department of Education office a deadline to finish the investigation of the death of a 14-year-old student in Antipolo City who died after allegedly being slapped by his teacher.

- Over 700 people were reportedly killed and hundreds were taken hostage as Israel declared a state of war against Hamas. In the Gaza Strip, many civilians are among more than 400 Palestinians killed by Israeli airstrikes. 

- Right-wing populists have made gains in Germany's regional elections but the results are a blow for all three parties in Chancellor Olaf Scholz's left-wing-led national coalition. A quarter of voters were able to go to the polls in regional elections in two of Germany's largest and wealthiest states, Bavaria and Hesse.

- The death toll from powerful quakes that hit western Afghanistan has reached the 2000th mark. A powerful magnitude-6.3 earthquake followed by strong aftershocks killed dozens of people in western Afghanistan on Saturday, the country’s national disaster authority said.
