F1 2023: Heineken Dutch Grand Prix

After a long summer break, the F1 2023 season returns to Zandvoort for the Heineken Dutch Grand Prix and this race is a bit of a surprise because due to Daniel Ricciardo's injury, Liam Lawson takes his place as an Alpha Tauri driver. Lawson's maiden F1 voyage aside, Max Verstappen tries to continue his history-rewriting dominance on his home turf.

As the lights went out, the Dutch Grand Prix was underway. As the opening lap is done, the downpour begins, forcing most drivers to pit themselves to fit their machines with intermediate tires. As Sergio Perez is leading after six laps, lap 13 saw Verstappen heading to the pits, switching back to slicks, while at the lead. In Lap 16, Logan Sargeant is the first to be out of the race following a crash into the barriers.

Lap 22 restart, Verstappen leads from Perez while Fernando Alonso is being followed by Pierre Gasly and Carlos Sainz. Halfway through the race, Oscar Piastri and Liam Lawson are making great progress in Zandvoort until in Lap 43, Charles Leclerc was ordered to retire due to floor damage. As the rain fell in Holland, Lap 64 saw the whole placed under a red flag, after Zhou Guanyu aquaplaned into the Turn 1 barriers and crashed out of the race.

After nearly an hour of waiting for the rain to pass, the action continues with Verstappen leading the race all the way to the endgame.

After a rainy thriller in Holland, Max Verstappen's 2023 win streak has risen to nine, matching Sebastian Vettel's record, while Fernando Alonso finished 2nd and Pierre Gasly finished 3rd.

Can Verstappen's win streak of the 2023 season continue or fall? The next race of the F1 2023 season will be at Monza for the Pirelli Gran Premio D’Italia this September 3rd.
