- The low-pressure area spotted 1,315km east of Eastern Visayas has been formed into a tropical storm with the international name of Khanun. When it reaches the Philippine Area of Responsibility, it will be locally named Falcon.

- Over 30 people were killed when a boat submerged near Talim Island, Binangonan, Rizal. The Philippine Coast Guard began investigating the possible negligence at the sinking of the MB Aya Express while the MARINA agency suspended the safety certificate of the said boat's operator.

- Scientists said that the month of July is "virtually certain" to be the world's warmest month on record, mainly due to fossil fuel use. UN chief Antonio Guterres says the planet is in an "age of global boiling".

- Coutts Bank boss Peter Flavel has stepped down following the handling of Nigel Farage's bank account closure. 

- The United Nations suspends its humanitarian operation in Niger, a day after soldiers announced the overthrow of the country's president.

- Russian President Vladimir Putin offers thousands of tonnes of free grain to Africa.

- Charles Oppenheimer, the grandson of J. Robert Oppenheimer, the American scientist who was immortalized in the recent Christopher Nolan movie that starred Cillian Murphy as the titular scientist behind the atomic bomb, says what scene from the Oppenheimer movie "definitely would have removed". 

- The ABB FIA Formula E received a Guinness World Record for the fastest speed achieved by a vehicle indoors ahead of this weekend's Season 9 finale in London. McLaren driver Jake Hughes set a top speed of 218.71kph in ExCel London, driving the Gen3 Formula E race car.

- The Mercedes-Benz V-Class, Vito, and EQV range have received a minor change for the 2024 model year.


- Capcom and Niantic will release the Monster Hunter Now AR smartphone app game this September 14.

- The 2023 Emmy Awards have been postponed indefinitely amid WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.
