F1 2023: Rolex Australian Grand Prix

The F1 2023 season continues in Melbourne for the Rolex Australian Grand Prix and it's a definite madness from start to finish. A real force majeure in the early stages of the latest F1 season.

As the lights went off, the action in Melbourne is underway with Charles Leclerc spinning out of the race. Come Lap 7, Alex Albon crashed out of the race and a red flag was triggered.

As the race restarts, Lewis Hamilton is in the lead until Max Verstappen snags it on Lap 12. However, on Lap 18, George Russell surrenders as his car caught fire. Halfway through the race, the three world champions are locked in for a podium fight as Verstappen leads while Hamilton and Fernando Alonso fend each other off. With ten laps to go, Verstappen made a mistake at the last corner and he lost four seconds to Hamilton in P2. As the race nears its end, Kevin Magnussen lost a right rear tire and another red flag was triggered.

As the race restarted with two laps to go, chaos erupted with a multi-car crash with four cars out of the race since the race restart. Carlos Sainz was slapped with a five-second penalty for his incident with Alonso at the prior restart.
