F1 2022: Gran Premio de la Ciudad de Mexico

Max Verstappen and the Red Bull team may be crowned this season's champions but there's still more action left in the F1 2022 season with the Mexico City Grand Prix.

As the lights went out, the action in Mexico is underway with Verstappen off to a great start while Lewis Hamilton is hunting the champion's rear. As the race reaches its 14th lap, Pierre Gasly was penalized for pushing Lance Stroll off the track. After several laps of close action between Verstappen and Hamilton, Lap 51 saw Daniel Ricciardo crash Yuki Tsunoda out of the race, causing the McLaren driver to be slapped with a 10-second penalty. With six laps to go, engine failures prompted Fernando Alonso out of the race, triggering a virtual safety car.

After a 71-lap drama, champion-elect Max Verstappen nailed his 14th win of the season, breaking the record for the most wins in a season. Lewis Hamilton finished 2nd and Sergio Perez finished 3rd. Other finishers include Geroge Russell, Carlos Sainz, Charles Leclerc, Daniel Ricciardo, Esteban Ocon, Lando Norris, and Valtteri Bottas.

The next race of the F1 2022 season will be at Interlagos for the Heineken Grande Premio de Sao Paulo this November 13th.
