India's Sandhu wins 70th Miss Universe

The 70th Miss Universe pageant took place in Israel for the first time amid controversies and the recent COVID Omicron outbreak. Controversial for the venue of choice aside, the 70th Miss Universe will decide who will take over the title held by Mexico's Andrea Meza after seven months.

Harnaaz Kaur Sandhu from India is crowned as the 70th Miss Universe winner, beating the likes of Paraguay's Nadia Ferreira, who was named 1st runner-up, and South Africa's Lalela Mswane, who placed 2nd runner-up. Colombia's Valeria Ayos and the Philippines' Beatrice Luigi Gomez were on the final five.

This is the third time India won the Miss Universe pageant. The first was Sushmita Sen in 1994 and Lara Dutta in 2000.
