- As of 1420 Manila Time with 72% of the Voter Turnout, Cynthia Villar leads with 24,445,372 votes followed by independent senatorial aspirant Grace Poe with 21,372,956 votes. Those who are still in the Magic 12 are PDP-Laban's Bong Go, Pia Cayetano, Bato Dela Rosa, Edgardo Sonny Angara, Lito Lapid, Imee Marcos, Francis Tolentino, Ramon "Bong" Revilla Jr. and Nancy Binay.

- Pasig City Councilor Vico Sotto wins via landslide at the May 13 elections, ending Robert Eusebio's reign. With 98 percent of the votes counted, Sotto had 188,321 votes compared to Eusebio’s 109,245—an insurmountable 79,076-vote lead. The 29-year-old had promised voters a “new kind of politics,” a message that appeared to resonate in the nation’s eighth largest city.

- The Commission on Elections denied accusations of "cheating" after a glitch with the transparency server caused the delay in the release of partial election results to poll watchdogs and the media.

- Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte is set for his third visit to Japan this month.

- The UN Human Rights Council urged nations to sever ties with Myanmar's military as part of efforts to hold the army accountable for human rights abuses. The statement says there has been no progress toward resolving the crisis over Myanmar’s mostly Muslim Rohingya minority, more than 1 million of whom have fled military “clearance operations” in the northwest Rakhine region.

Canada is facing criticism from environmentalist groups for refusing to support a ban on the dumping of hazardous waste in developing countries.

- The US-China trade war escalates as Beijing hits back on the US by raising painful tariffs on $60 billion in US exports by next month, responding in kind to President Donald Trump’s decision last week to hike duties on hundreds of billions of dollars in Chinese merchandise.

- The US government announced it will provide $160 million in funding to Colombia to help implement the historic peace accord signed between the state and now-disarmed FARC rebels.

NASA’s next mission to the Moon will be called Artemis, the US space agency announced, though it’s still looking for the money to make the journey happen by its accelerated 2024 deadline. In March, the Trump administration moved the date for the next American lunar mission up by four years from its original goal of 2028 while pledging to get a female astronaut to the Moon’s surface for the first time.

- Opel/Vauxhall has launched the brand's first PHEV, the Grandland X Hybrid4 with a 1.6L turbocharged engine mated to an electric drive system, 8-speed AT, and four-wheel drive, resulting to an overall power output of a whopping 300PS.
