- Wutip which is brewing east of Mindanao, is still outside the country and has a slim chance of entering the Philippine area of responsibility, according to PAGASA. In its weather update, Wutip was spotted off 2,400km east of Mindanao. It packs a maximum sustained winds of 130 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of 160 kilometers per hour and moving northwest at 15 kilometers per hour.

- European and Arab leaders are to hold their first summit Sunday, in what the top EU diplomat sees as a chance to boost cooperation across a troubled Mediterranean region. Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi will host the two-day summit in Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh to discuss topics like security, trade, development and migration.

- The two main challengers to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced an electoral alliance, posing a threat to the premier’s long tenure in office as he also faces potential corruption charges.

- The British government said that Brexit talks with the EU will focus on winning new guarantees to reassure eurosceptic MPs, rather than on demanding the divorce deal be re-opened.

- According to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, the diplomatic status of the father of an Alabama woman who joined the Islamic State group means she is not a US citizen. Under orders of President Donald Trump, Pompeo made the highly unusual determination yesterday that 24-year-old Hoda Muthana, who traveled to Syria on a US passport and wants to return, is not an American citizen.

- A London teenager who joined the Islamic State group in Syria called on the British authorities to reconsider their decision to revoke her citizenship, calling for “mercy”. Shamima Begum was 15 when she ran away to join the jihadists with two school friends from Bethnal Green in east London in 2015. Now a 19-year-old mother, she has become a refugee after the group’s proto-state collapsed.
