- Former Senator Bong Revilla is pleaded not guilty on charges of plunder and graft after four years in jail. The Sandiganbayan issued a release order for Revilla on Friday, the same day he was acquitted of plunder in the controversial pork barrel scam case.

- Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte seeks extension of martial law in Mindanao for another year to ensure public safety. Presidential Spokesman Salvador Panelo has cautioned that lifting martial law in the restive south might strengthen the rebellion and “propel it to other parts of the country.”

- The Davao City Regional Trial Court has issued four warrants of arrest against opposition Sen. Antonio Trillnanes IV for libel charges filed by the city’s former vice mayor and presidential son Paolo Z. Duterte and his brother-in-law lawyer Manases Carpio.

- The United States is trying to "stifle" Chinese technology company Huawei and curb its global expansion with the arrest of a top executive, according to state media. Huawei Technologies Co Ltd’s chief financial officer, Meng Wanzhou, the 46-year-old daughter of the company’s founder, was detained in Canada on Dec. 1, the same day U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping dined together at the G20 summit in Buenos Aires.

- The incoming Democratic governor of Wisconsin says he plans to make a personal appeal to his defeated rival, Republican Gov. Scott Walker, to veto sweeping GOP legislation that would strip the new administration of some powers.

- The Trump administration moved forward with plans to ease restrictions on oil and gas drilling and other activities across millions of acres in the American West that were put in place to protect an imperiled bird species.

- Skoda unveiled the new Scala hatchback which is the first Skoda to use the MQB A0 platform from VW Group. The engine ranges include a 1.0L TSi, 1.6L TDi, and the new 1.5L TSI EA211 evo engine producing 150PS of power and 250Nm of torque.
