- The death toll from last weekend's Typhoon Ompong has risen to 65.

- Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte ordered transport authorities to acquire additional x-ray security machines as reserve in the country’s airports in case of breakdown of existing ones. The President made the proposal to prevent manual inspection of luggage and other goods that could create an “aberration” in the airports.

- Retired Army Major General Jovito Palparan, Lieutenant Colonel Felipe Anotado, and Staff Sergeant Edgardo Osorio were found by Malolos Regional Trial Court Branch 15 guilty of kidnapping and serious illegal detention in the 2006 disappearance of University of the Philippines students Karen Empeno and Sherlyn Cadapan.

- Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki signed a peace agreement in Saudi Arabia on Sunday, the second peace deal reached since July between the once warring African countries.

- Pakistani army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa began a three-day visit to China on Sunday, Pakistan’s military said, days after a Pakistani minister stirred unease about Chinese Silk Road projects in the South Asian nation.

- Most construction workers who were detained after protests over labor conditions at Istanbul’s new airport were released on Sunday, according to the city's governor, but a union leader said hundreds were still held and more protests were likely.

- Lamborghini upgrades the Huracan GT3 racecar with the new EVO machine, set for its debut appearance at next year's Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona.
