- Following the resignation of Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II, President Rodrigo Duterte named Senior Deputy Executive Secretary Menardo Guevarra as the new DOJ Secretary. Guevarra studied Graduate Studies of Economics at the University of the Philippines after getting his AB degree major in Political Science at the Ateneo De Manila University in 1974.

- In a follow-up story, Senator Risa Hontiveros welcomed Vitaliano Aguirre II’s decision to step down and President Rodrigo Duterte’s prompt acceptance of his resignation and replacement, the lawmaker said the Department of Justice chief could have done it much earlier as he only allegedly used the agency to “distort” the truth and harass members of the opposition. The DOJ, under Aguirre’s watch, filed in February 2017 three drug charges against Duterte’s top critic Sen. Leila de Lima, who remains under detention.

- Department of Agriculture Emmanuel Pinol confirmed that President Rodrigo Duterte wanted the National Food Authority returned to the DA, along with all other agriculture-related offices such as the Philippine Coconut Authority and the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) that used to be under the department.

- The Communist Party of the Philippines welcomes President Rodrigo Duterte's decision to resume peace talks. In a statement, CPP-NPA-NDF founding Chairman Jose Ma. Sison said that following Duterte’s decision to reopen the peace talks, their doors are now open for another round of peace negotiations.

- The latest in US Politics: US President Donald Trump has signed a proclamation to send the National Guard to the border with Mexico to try to cut down on illegal immigration. In other news, Mark Zuckerberg is set to testify before Congress on the Cambridge Analytica scandal.

- Lotus pays tribute to their F1 involvement with a special edition Exige Cup 430 Type 25, a special edition named in honor of their F1 car and it's limited to 25 units.

- Isao Takahata, the director and co-founder of the respected Studio Ghibli, passed away at the age of 82. Studio Ghibli president Kiyofumi Nakajima and producer/co-founder Toshio Suzuki both issued statements regarding his passing.

- Kamen Rider Gaim actor Tsunenori Aoki was arrested for forcible indecency against a woman.
