During the race, seven safety car periods were implemented, primarily due to incidents caused by wet conditions and crashes. Major incidents occurred at Griffins Bend and The Cutting. Heavy rain started halfway through the race, reducing visibility and creating treacherous driving conditions for the final stretch. Key moments included Golding colliding with Murray at Griffins Bend, Stanaway crashing at The Cutting, and Payne skillfully managing a wild slide at The Chase.

Thanks to the #31 PremiAir Racing Camaro of James Golding and David Russell, demoted to third place after the penalty, despite crossing to the finish line in P1, the #100 Penrite Racing Ford Mustang of Matthew Payne and Garth Tander is named the winner, putting Ford back to the summit of Mount Panorama. McLaren was hit by a double whammy in Baku, with title front-runner Oscar Piastri crashing out of the race during the opening lap, followed by pitstop issues for Lando Norris that saw his lead fade away.

Mercedes driver George Russell finished 2nd, and by surprise, Carlos Sainz finished 3rd, his best result as a Williams driver. Other finishers include Andrea Kimi Antonelli, Liam Lawson, Yuki Tsunoda, Lando Norris, Lewis Hamilton, Charles Leclerc, and Isack Hadjar.

Thanks to Piastri's dramatic crash in Baku, Lando Norris is now closing in on the title race, narrowing the gap between them to an incredibly slim margin. The tension is building, and the stakes have never been higher.

The next race is the Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix this October 5, 2025.

FIA World RX 2025: World RX of Turkiye

Istanbul Park serves as the final destination for what some believe could be the last-ever FIA World Rallycross Championship season. Following the unexpected withdrawal of the Hansens, rallycross is now centered around just four competitors: title frontrunner Johan Kristoffersson, Ole Christian Veiby, Niclas Grönholm, and the only female competitor in rallycross, Klara Andersson.

Because of this, the finale featured wildcard entries and a one-day format to make this send-off more exciting. The wildcard entries in the finale consist of Euro RX1 drivers who performed better in the Euro RX1 finale. While wildcard entries are not eligible for championship points, they are fully eligible to race for the win and stand on the podium. A fitting end.

FIA World RX 2025: World RX of Turkiye
Screengrab from World RX

Johan Kristofferson has truly cemented his legacy in the world of motorsport, and his remarkable achievement of becoming an 8-time World RX champion speaks volumes. There’s no need for further explanation—his dominance on the track tells the story all on its own!

This concludes the 2025 FIA World Rallycross Season. Notably, the FIA has restructured the championship for 2026, reverting to the Euro RX format with a top-tier class using internal combustion engines on sustainable fuels. Additionally, a standalone FIA Rallycross World Cup is planned, reflecting the shift from the FIA World Touring Car Cup to the TCR World Tour in 2023.

Anyway, this is the end of the last-ever season of the FIA World Rallycross Championship. Thank you for being part of this experience, and here's hoping for more rallycross action on the world stage someday.
