- MRT-3 operations are back to normal after being delayed earlier, January 22, due to a dog spotted on the train tracks. The DOTR-MRT3 also apologizes to passengers who were inconvenienced. As of 6:31 p.m., the dog was spotted on the MRT-3 tracks and was captured by the Coast Guard at 6:56 p.m. Train operations are now back to normal.

- An ethics complaint has been filed against Senator JV Ejercito, who is the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics and Privileges. Atty. Eldridge Aceron filed a complaint against Ejercito for gross neglect of constitutional duty for failing to act on the ethics complaint filed against Senator Chiz Escudero.

- Six senators from the opposition have signed their own report on the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee's investigation into the anomalous flood control projects in which former Speaker Martin Romualdez is primarily accused of being the promoter of corruption. This was announced by Senators Rodante Marcoleta and Imee Marcos in a press conference and submitted to the office of Senate President Tito Sotto on December 10, 2025. They based their own report on the first three hearings of Marcoleta when he was Chairman of the Blue Ribbon Committee (BRC) and the subsequent three hearings of Senator Ping Lacson, who is currently the Chairperson of the committee. Among the minority senators who signed the report are Marcoleta, Marcos, as well as Senators Robin Padilla, Bato dela Rosa, Jinggoy Estrada, and Bong Go.

- Up to 130,901 families or more than 433,000 individuals were affected by Typhoon Ada. According to data from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), those affected are from 724 barangays in the Bicol Region, Eastern Visayas, and CARAGA. Of the said number, more than 5,000 people are still temporarily staying in 325 evacuation centres in the aforementioned regions. The number of deaths remains at 2, while 2 were injured or hurt. - US President Donald Trump calls the UK's Chagos Islands deal an "act of great stupidity", months after endorsing the move. Trump says the deal in which the UK hands over the Chagos Islands' sovereignty to Mauritius is one of the reasons he wants the US to take over Greenland. Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer stated that the 99-year lease on the UK-US military base will cost the UK £101 million per year. Trump previously supported the UK's Chagos Islands deal, which Secretary of State Marco Rubio described as a "monumental achievement."

- The Highway Patrol Group (HPG) has confirmed that the license plate of one of the luxury cars linked to former Congressman Zaldy Co is fake. According to HPG Director P/BGen. Hansel Marantan, a micro-etching examination revealed that a Ferrari that was recovered was registered under a different name with the same type of vehicle. It can be recalled that four vehicles were recovered by authorities in an operation conducted in Taguig City. Because of this, the HPG is now investigating the possible relationship of Co with the real owner of the license plate of the said vehicle.

- Two female witnesses appeared before the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee hearing and pressed contractor Curlee Discaya on his connection to former Speaker Martin Romualdez in the purchase of a property in a popular subdivision in Makati City. The two women, who went by the aliases Maria and Joy, identified themselves as staff of the former owner of the property in South Forbes Park, Mr. Rico Ocampo, which Romualdez allegedly purchased in April 2023. According to the witness, broker TJ Conti introduced them to Curlee Discaya on February 1, 2024, as the contractor of the purchased property, but that introduction lasted less than five minutes.

- The Malacañang has insisted that the filing of an impeachment complaint is part of the democratic process as stipulated by the Constitution. This is the Palace's statement on the impeachment complaint filed in the House by Atty. Andre de Jesus, and endorsed by Pusong Pinoy party-list Rep. Jett Nisay. According to the Presidential Communications Office, the Palace respects the process and is confident that Congress will fulfill its role as a coequal branch of government honestly, with integrity, and in accordance with the rule of law.

- The Philippine Navy's newest offshore patrol vessel arrived in the country from South Korea on Friday, Jan. 17, 2026, where it will be called Barko ng Republika ng Pilipinas (BRP) Rajah Sulayman (PS20). The new ship was welcomed by the missile frigate BRP Jose Rizal (FF150) as part of standard Naval protocols upon its entry into Philippine waters. The said ship will first undergo post-delivery activities and pre-commissioning processes before its official joining of the active fleet.

NATO member states were warned about US President Donald Trump's tariff threat regarding the Greenland issue. President Trump announced plans to impose harsher tariffs on the UK, Denmark, and other European countries over the Greenland dispute.
