Nissan Roox (BB5/6) and Mitsubishi eK Space/Delica Mini (BA1~6)

The tall kei minivans from the NMKV joint venture, the Mitsubishi eK Space, the Mitsubishi Delica Mini, and the Nissan Roox, have gained their full model changes. Let's find out how much these kei minivans have changed.

The all-new Mitsubishi eK Space starts at 1,749,000 Yen, while the Delica Mini starts at 1,964,000 Yen, and the all-new Nissan Roox starts at 1,672,000 Yen, excluding additional costs. These new-generation NMKV kei minivans have been redesigned with new and exciting ways to please their drivers while maintaining their boxy characteristics that made them special.

For starters, the exterior design retains its boxy attributes from the previous models, but how their designs differentiate between them holds a different story. In the eK Space and the base Roox variant, it's like a mashup between the Serena's back and the front of a certain Chinese EV city car I can't mention due to search query reasons. The Roox Highway Star, meanwhile, is like a mini-me Elgrand. As for the Delica Mini, the derpiest of the three, the iconic Delica Mini design from its predecessor remains. Even with the all-new look, it's still the Delica Mini that every Japanese family loved.

The interior of these new models is spacious, maintaining the roomy feel typical of kei minivans. The driver's view highlights a modern layout featuring a Google-powered panoramic widescreen, which has become a standard in today's vehicles. However, there are no physical buttons or knobs for adjusting the volume or changing the radio station, which may be disappointing for some. The air conditioning controls are touch panels, but the gear lever is still present. Notably, the Delica Mini includes a unique dial for selecting driving modes, allowing drivers to switch between tarmac, gravel, and snow settings.

These kei minivans are powered by the same 660cc BR06 three-cylinder DOHC 12-valve engine mated to a CVT gearbox. Thanks to some slight improvements, the fuel economy is up to 21kmpl for 2WD variants and up to 18.8kmpl for 4WD variants based on WLTC Mode standards. Turbocharging is reserved for the Roox Highway Star and the Delica Mini.

Most variants have Rack & Pinion Power Steering, front MacPherson struts, front ventilated disc brakes, and rear reading/trailing drum brakes. FF variants have rear torsion beam suspension, while 4WD variants have torque arm three-link suspension.

The eK Space, Delica Mini, and the Roox come with a wide variety of safety features from the 3D Multi-Around Monitor, e-Assist, and MI-PILOT, granting them a "Safety Support Car S Wide" credential.

With these new forms, the all-new Mitsubishi eK Space, Delica Mini, and the Nissan Roox are ready to tackle the new normal with their familiar shapes, new interiors, improved fuel efficiency, and tech. Kei car fanatics, rejoice.

Honda N ONE e:

The Honda N ONE e: is the company's second kei EV since the N VAN e:, and it can be yours with an MSRP of 2,699,400 Yen plus additional costs. Let's get to know more about this latest Honda EV kei car on the block.

2026 Honda N ONE e:
2026 Honda N ONE e:

2026 Honda N ONE e:
2026 Honda N ONE e: interior

The first-ever Honda N ONE e: shares a resemblance with the current-generation petrol-powered N ONE, but there are significant differences. It features a distinctive front design that includes charging ports, along with an interior layout that is completely different from its gasoline counterpart.

The design is surprisingly charming for a kei car, and Honda has embraced sustainability by using recycled materials in its construction. For instance, discarded Honda bumpers are collected, cleaned, and crushed to create the vehicle's front end. This innovative design not only sets the N ONE e: apart but also reflects Honda's history, creating a lasting connection to the brand.

The instrument panel is crafted from DURABIO, a bio-based resin known for its soft luster and color. This material also helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Additionally, the insulators are made from old Honda work clothes.

Asked about its EV powertrain, the N ONE e: runs on a 64PS MCF7 front electric motor connected to a 29.6kWh lithium battery, giving a driving range of a modest 295km by WLTC standards. As a city car that weighs a ton, it works rather well thanks to its Rack & Pinion power steering, front MacPherson struts, rear axle, front ventilated discs, and rear leading/trailing brakes.

The N ONE e: is loaded with Honda SENSING safety tech, post-collision braking system, emergency stop signal, hill start assist, agile handling assist, and others.

Another kei car with a so-so value for money, the N ONE e: may not be the ideal replacement for the cult classic Honda e, but common sense managed to find its way to this electric kei car for the masses. Whether you're a city mouse or a country mouse, consider this your travel buddy.

Once Upon a Katamari Damacy

The Katamari Damacy series returns in this latest installment! The Prince of all Cosmos and his cousins are excited for you to roll through this newest adventure!

Once Upon a Katamari Damacy
Once Upon a Katamari Damacy
(Nintendo Switch)

"Once Upon a Katamari Damacy" is the latest installment in the Katamari Damacy series after a 14-year hiatus. In this game, players traverse time and space as The Prince. Tasked by his father, The King of All Cosmos, your objective remains consistent with previous titles: roll, collect, and grow your Katamari to its largest size to please the King and help restore the stars.

Various levels feature various objectives to clear. Some are easy to fulfill, while some can be somewhat tricky to finish. Achieve it, proceed to the next level. Fail, and you'll end up getting punished by The King, and you'll have to do it over again. Kinda admit, the "game over" sequences can be amusing.

Aiding your Katamari adventure are power-ups scattered somewhere, such as the clock that adds extra time, a magnet to attract nearby objects, and a rocket for added speed. Make good use of these power-ups and aim for the biggest Katamari!

There are 69 unlockable cousins to collect and play from iconic favorites to new additions. Think you can roll them all? What's even amusing is that you can create a cousin! The more cousins you collect, the more customization parts you'll unlock. Feel free to mix and match to create your own cousin.

Up for a challenge? You can take on online multiplayer and compete with up to four online players.

In franchise traditions, Once Upon a Katamari Damacy features a setlist of songs performed by well-known artists, including singer Clementine's version of Katamari Damacy. There's even a song performed by Gakuen IDOLM@STER's Saki Hanami as well!

After nearly a decade and a half of waiting, Katamari Damacy is back in an all-new adventure, and it's about time...and space. The Prince of all Cosmos and his cousins are ready. Are you?

My GT7 Log: KING OF ROADSTER

The ND-spec Mazda Roadster, known globally as the MX-5, is now officially 10 years old, making it the longest-serving generation in the history of the Mazda Roadster. To celebrate this milestone, Mazda's motorsports division, Mazda Spirit Racing, has introduced a special version of the ND Roadster: the Mazda Spirit Racing Roadster. This exclusive car is available for you to drive only in Gran Turismo 7.

MAZDA ROADSTER 12R '25

So, what's it all about, the Mazda Spirit Racing Roadster? What makes it the King of Mazda Roadster?

MAZDA ROADSTER 12R '25

First revealed as a concept in the 2024 Tokyo Auto Salon and then returned a year later as a full-fledged production model, the limited-edition Mazda Spirit Racing Roadster is the culmination not just of the ND-spec Roadster but of the whole lineage. It's the first of Mazda's new Mazda Spirit Racing brand, a brand synonymous with Mazda's motorsports activities.

Mazda Spirit Racing offers aspiring racers an exciting side hustle behind the wheel. Through its Challenge Program, participants will first compete in virtual e-sports using Gran Turismo 7, specifically in the Mazda Spirit Racing GT Cup. Afterward, they can progress to real racing events, starting with the entry-level Mazda Fan Endurance. From there, they can advance to the intermediate-class Roadster Party Race, ultimately having the chance to race in the prestigious Super Taikyu series while representing Mazda Spirit Racing.

The specifications of the MSR Roadster remain confidential since its addition to the GT7 car lineup. However, sources indicate that the Mazda Spirit Racing Roadster will feature the same 2.0L four-cylinder engine found in the RF model. This marks a significant development, as it is the first time this engine will be available in the open-top ND model's decade-long history in Japan. While the open-top ND models in global markets have had this engine, it has not been offered in Japan until now.

The limited-to-2200-units, normal Mazda Spirit Racing Roadster has 184PS of power from the said engine, while the limited-to-200-units Mazda Spirit Racing Roadster 12R, seen here, got its 2.0L engine beefed up to 200PS of power, making it the most powerful Roadster ever made. Both are mated exclusively to a 6-speed SKYACTIV-MT.

The optional Sports Package features Advan sports tires, sports suspension, a two-way limited-slip differential, sports muffler, and sports brake system.

MAZDA ROADSTER 12R '25

MAZDA ROADSTER 12R '25

To demonstrate the full extent of the ultimate Roadster, I went to Fuji Speedway, the venue of the annual Mazda Fan Festa, where Mazda fans gather to witness Mazda's greatest hits from the legendary 787B race car to its rotary icons like the RX-7.

By Gran Turismo standards, this car has a 0-100 kph time of around six seconds and a theoretical top speed of over 250 kph. I know this because I tested the car on Special Stage Route X to confirm its capabilities. While it is theoretically faster than a European saloon, its speedometer indicates a maximum of only 200 kph.

Anyway, let's roll the tape and find out if the ultimate Roadster's worthy of its prowess.

My attempt around the Fuji Speedway set a 2m12.224s lap time, the best I can do. Still, the 12R proved its worth as the Roadster to end all Roadsters.

MAZDA ROADSTER 12R '25

From its inception to the present day, the Mazda Roadster exemplifies what a true sports car should be. It prioritizes driving dynamics over sheer speed and power. Although it may not match the acceleration of today's sports cars, its enjoyable driving experience is unmatched. The Mazda Spirit Racing Roadster has pushed the boundaries of the original Roadster in its quest to become the best entry-level sports car that has ever existed.

MAZDA ROADSTER 12R '25

With the Mazda Spirit Racing Roadster ultimately known as the King of Roadsters, what's next for Mazda in the age of the new normal? The world will never know, but in the meantime, let's salivate with Mazda's last true sports car to the last mile. Enjoy it while it lasts.

Autobacs Super GT 2025 Series Round 7

Autopolis is the second-to-last stop for the Autobacs Super GT 2025 Series, featuring a challenging three-hour race.

Long before the race, the Super GT organizers announced that starting in the 2027 season, a one-make tire system would be implemented. This means that all Super GT competitors will use tires from the official tire supplier, marking the end of the ability for competitors to choose their tire manufacturers. It's a difficult decision, but the Super GT organizers are looking into it.

Anyway, the race...

In the GT300 class, meanwhile, the #666 seven x seven Porsche GT3R wins while the #7 CARGUY Ferrari 296 GT3 finished second, and the #0 VENTENY Lamborghini GT3 finished 3rd.

Pokemon LEGENDS: Z-A

Return to Lumiose City in the newest Pokémon LEGENDS adventure, where Mega Evolution makes a comeback. Go Mega before it's too late!

Pokemon LEGENDS: Z-A
Pokemon LEGENDS: Z-A
Nintendo Switch 2 Edition

Pokémon LEGENDS Z-A, the newest Pokémon LEGENDS adventure for the outgoing Nintendo Switch and the all-new Nintendo Switch 2, welcomes Pokémon fanatics back to Lumiose City, the heart of the Kalos Region from 2013's Pokémon XY games.

In this latest adventure, players can explore Lumiose City, where an urban redevelopment plan is in progress to transform the city into a utopia for both humans and Pokémon. As your journey through Lumiose City begins, you can choose which of the Z-A starters is your first: Chikorita, Tepig, or Totodile.

During your adventure in Lumiose City, you will encounter various incidents alongside new and memorable characters, including one you may recognize. First, let's explore the concept of Wild Zones. Wild Zones are part of the Lumiose redevelopment plan, overseen by a conglomerate called Quasartico Inc., designed to promote coexistence between humans and Pokémon.

Like the previous LEGENDS game, LEGENDS Arceus, catching a Pokémon takes finesse and stealth. You can either sneak up on them to catch them by surprise or, when things get rough, engage in a Pokémon battle. Hope you got enough Poké Balls for this.

Some areas are not accessible, and the only way to do so is by taking on the Z-A League. When night falls, an underground tournament called the Z-A League kicks in. You start at Rank Z and your goal is to battle the city's most powerful trainers and, in due course, reach the prestigious Rank A. As your rank progresses, you'll be able to access new areas, and the maximum level for Pokémons to obey you will improve.

LEGENDS: Z-A introduces a series-first real-time battle system, where trainers and their Pokémon can move freely during a fight. In addition to considering type matchups, players will need to pay attention to new gameplay mechanics, such as the exact timing required to switch Pokémon or execute moves. Additionally, moves will have varying reach, areas of effect, and time delays before they take effect.

The XXL-sized Alpha Pokémon can be quite daunting if you're not prepared. However, what's even more challenging than facing an Alpha Pokémon is encountering a Pokémon with Rogue Mega Evolution. As part of your assignment with Team MZ, you will take on these Rogue Mega-Evolved Pokémon. If you successfully defeat them, you will be rewarded with Mega Stones. It's a tough job, but the rewards are worth the effort.

In addition to popular Mega-Evolved favorites, LEGENDS: Z-A features exciting new Mega Evolutions for beloved Pokémon, including Mega Dragonite, Mega Malamar, Mega Victreebel, and Mega Hawlucha. It's worth noting that the final evolution stages of the Z-A starters also have Mega Evolutions, but how they achieve this is a mystery you'll need to uncover by playing the game. As with past titles, you will require Mega Stones to initiate Mega Evolution. You can obtain these stones by trading Mega Shards or purchasing them at locations like the Stone Emporium. Some stones can also be earned as prizes from ranked online battles (requires online subscription).

Starting in 2026, this game will be compatible with Pokémon HOME. This means you'll be able to transfer Pokémon from the Pokémon GO app and previous games to complete the Z-A Pokédex. Additionally, a new DLC expansion is set to launch next year, featuring the mythical Pokémon Hoopa and two brand-new Mega Evolutions for Raichu. Don't miss out on these exciting updates!

The Mega Evolution comeback, evolved battle system, new cast of characters, and new ways to enjoy your favorite Pokémons, Pokémon LEGENDS: Z-A is no doubt the must-play of the season.

Ready to return to Lumiouse City for this Mega-Evolved Pokémon LEGENDS escapade? Good luck!

Super Formula 2025 - Round 9

Fuji Speedway is the next stop for the 2025 Super Formula season, but due to inclement weather, from rain to fog, this whole race weekend got cut short to just a single race, with the first one getting cut short to just seven laps.

Super Formula 2025 - Round 9
Screengrab from Super Formula

The first race got cut short after seven laps due to rainy conditions. The red flag was triggered by Lap 7 due to the weather. Sasha Fenestraz of VANTELIN TEAM TOM'S, who was leading the race, was named that race's winner, with his teammate Sho Tsuboi finishing 2nd, and MUGEN's Tomoki Nojiri finishing 3rd.

The final race was cancelled due to foggy conditions, over three hours after the recent knockout qualifying.

The 2025 Super Formula final will take place at Mobility Resort Motegi from November 21 to 23, 2025. It could potentially be a three-race finale to compensate for the recent cancellation of the final race at Fuji due to foggy conditions.

With the title battle heating up between Sho Tsuboi, Ayumu Iwasa, and Kakunoshin Ota, this is an event you won't want to miss!

Suzuki e VITARA vs Toyota bZ4X

For the first time ever, Suzuki has launched its first-ever EV, the e VITARA. So, what's it all about, the Suzuki e-VITARA?

2026 Suzuki e VITARA
2026 Suzuki e VITARA

Starting at 3,993,000 Japanese Yen plus additional costs, the Suzuki e VITARA is the company's first electric vehicle as it braces the electrification trend that most carmakers are embracing in this unstable era we live in. It goes without saying that this is the fourth time Suzuki has imported this from India's Maruti Suzuki production line. Long before its arrival, the currently available India-made Suzukis sold in Japan are the Fronx and the 5-door Jimny Nomade.

2026 Suzuki e VITARA
2026 Suzuki e VITARA

2026 Suzuki e VITARA
2026 Suzuki e VITARA interior

Beginning with the styling, the e VITARA draws inspiration from the eVX Concept, albeit with some notable differences. Yes, the back and the sidelines mimic the concept's looks; the front face didn't adopt the eVX's front and went for a front similar to a certain not-for-Japan Toyota SUV from a long time ago. Long story short, but you have to give credit to the design team for such a simple but rugged look.

Inside, the e VITARA's dashboard bears an auspiciously similar appearance to the pre-facelifted Kia Sorento MQ4 of 2020. Appearances aside, the driver's side is packed with ambient lighting with multi-color illumination, a 26.04cm multi-information display that combines the virtual instrumental panel and the touch-screen sat-nav system, a twin deck floating console with Shift-by-Wire, and a wireless charger, among others. On the passenger side, because it's bigger than a Daihatsu Rocky, the boot space is a default 310 liters with the rear seats present and up to 1052 liters with all passenger seats folded.

2026 Suzuki e VITARA
2026 Suzuki e VITARA

Running on a newly developed HEARTECT-e platform made exclusively for BEVs, the e VITARA offers two battery packs. The entry-level front-wheel-drive X variant is equipped with a 49kWh LFP battery that produces 144PS of power, 193Nm of torque, and up to 433km of driving range. The range-topping 4WD Z variant features a 61kWh LFP battery and an extra electric motor, producing 184PS of power, 307Nm of torque, and 472km of driving range, although the FF Z variant with the said battery minus the extra motor can do it in 520km.

Bringing common sense to its drivability, the e VITARA comes with Rack & Pinion Power Steering, front MacPherson struts, rear multilink suspension, and ventilated disc brakes. It behaves normally as a front-wheel-drive variant, but with the ALLGRIP-e for the 4WD Z variant, it performs like a beast, just as the Indians said upon experiencing it firsthand. As for safety, Level 2 ADAS features are present as well as familiar safety features such as high tensile steel strength, tire pressure monitoring system, 360-view camera, parking sensors, electronic parking brake, and brake hold.

From concept turned reality, the e VITARA is all about its polyhedral muscular stance, futuristic and spacious cabin, it performs like a beast, and safety beyond imagination. This is what Suzuki's first EV sums up, but can it keep up against Toyota's first EV, the bZ4X?

2026 Toyota bZ4X
2026 Toyota bZ4X

Formely a lease-only car that you can still rent via the KINTO subscription service, the new Toyota bZ4X is now ripe for private ownership, starting at 4,800,000 Japanese Yen plus additional costs.

2026 Toyota bZ4X
2026 Toyota bZ4X

2026 Toyota bZ4X
2026 Toyota bZ4X interior

The facelifted bZ4X is now officially available for ownership, although you can still lease one via KINTO if you want.

While the exterior design's been revised to keep it fresh for its potential owners, it's the new interior layout that makes a statement. Pity that Toyota canned the option to have a yoke in it (boo...), but amid the dashboard changes, the boot space is still good for 452 liters with the rear seats present.

The EV powertrain gets a shakeup for the recent facelift. The entry-level G model features a 58kWh Lithium battery packing 167PS of power and 544km. The front-wheel-drive Z, meanwhile, features a 73kWh battery with 224PS of power and 687km of driving range. The alpha of the range is the 4WD Z lineup with the same 73kWh battery but with an extra electric motor, producing a powerful 342PS and 687km of driving range.

The shakeup of the bZ4X's powertrain is thanks to its new eAxle with silicon carbide semiconductors for greater efficiency and higher power while also being lighter and more compact.

For a car that weighs over two tons, the bZ4X behaves like a normal crossover on a daily basis thanks to its Rack and Pinion steering, front struts, rear double wishbones, and ventilated disc brakes. It's not an enjoyable ride as expected, but it feels nice to drive and downright as regular as a regular show.

In terms of safety, the bZ4X is packed with safety features such as Pre-Crash Safety, Blind Spot Monitor, and Toyota Teammate Advanced Park, among many others.

To get the most out of the new bZ4X, this car is qualified for TEEMO, a new charging service that begins at Toyota and Lexus dealerships with a rich network Japan-wide. No admission fee is required, and the monthly basic fee is free. The required cost is only for the time you actually use it, so there is no charge for the month you do not use TEEMO. The TEEMO service is not limited only to Toyota and Lexus EVs like the new bZ4X but also to EVs from most manufacturers. In addition, TEEMO members can also use e-Mobility Power-linked chargers across Japan.

So, which one would you choose? The first-ever Suzuki e VITARA for its reasonable price and sizing, or the updated Toyota bZ4X that poses greater value and user-friendliness? Can't say which, but if it's value you want, it's the Suzuki e VITARA, but if you want everything for an EV crossover, go stick with the Toyota bZ4X that you can now fully own.

Aikatsu x PriPara THE MOVIE: Deai no Kiseki!

The impossible dream becomes a reality because, for the first time ever, the worlds of Aikatsu and PriPara collide in this movie event of the season in honor of a decade of the Aikatsu anime's Akari Generation arc and the PriPara anime.

Aikatsu x PriPara THE MOVIE: Deai no Kiseki!
Aikatsu x PriPara THE MOVIE:
Deai no Kiseki!

The long-awaited dream collaboration has finally arrived in this season's must-see movie event. In celebration of a decade of the Aikatsu anime's Akari Generation arc and the PriPara anime, "Aikatsu x PriPara THE MOVIE: Deai no Kiseki!" brings together two of the most iconic family-friendly idol anime series that aired on TV Tokyo ten years ago. This exciting mashup promises to leave a lasting impact on both beloved idol franchises.

The Luminas trio from Aikatsu (comprising Akari Ozora, Hinaki Shinjo, and Sumire Hikami) and the SoLaMi Smile from PriPara (comprising Laala Manaka, Mirei Minami, and Sophy Hojo) are joined with some of the most memorable characters from both series for the biggest spectacle fans will never forget.

It's a dream come true to see the worlds of Aikatsu and PriPara combined in this movie. The classic moments, the greatest hits, all the way to the grand finale—this is definitely a must-watch for anyone who loved both the Aikatsu and the Pretty Series. A real treat for kids of the 2010s who fell in love with these two memorable anime series.

The movie has temporarily settled the debate between the Aikatsu series and the Pretty Series. However, while fans got what they wanted, the Pretty Series remains prominent, and the Aikatsu series has diminished as a viewer-only experience due to the recent Aikatsu Academy series. It's a long story, but never mind. Just enjoy it. It's a fitting tribute to both iconic idol anime franchises loved by Japanese families.

Suzuki XBEE (2026MY Minor Change)

First launched eight years ago, the Suzuki XBEE (rhymes with Crosley) compact crossover has received a major facelift for the 2026 Model Year, keeping this baby crossover fresh for more adventures.

2026 Suzuki XBEE
2026 Suzuki XBEE

Starting at 2,212,100 Yen plus additional costs, the massive update on the Suzuki XBEE is all about reintroducing Suzuki's compact crossover with a different approach. Although it's still the XBEE Japanese motorists are familiarized with, the facelift features a revamped front face and revamped taillights.

2026 Suzuki XBEE
2026 Suzuki XBEE interior

The interior has been significantly updated with leather-like panels and a two-tiered center console for a compact car feel. The redesigned instrument panel and door trim enhance the SUV's quality while promoting a spacious layout. Additionally, the HYBRID MZ upgrade package includes water-repellent fabric seats, a unique color scheme, a head-up display, and LED room lamps.

2026 Suzuki XBEE
2026 Suzuki XBEE

The pre-facelift's 1.0L engine was replaced by the same 80PS Z12E three-cylinder 1.2L DOHC engine from today's Swift, connected by the new WA06D electric motor. Now mated to a CVT gearbox, which is a disappointment for anyone who misses the fun of the pre-facelift model, fuel economy is now 22.8 km/L for FF models.

FF models now feature similar stuff from the 4WD models, such as sport mode, snow mode, grip control, and hill descent control, along with active cornering support to minimize sag. Damping adhesives enhance ride comfort, handling stability, and quietness.

The new XBEE features advanced safety capabilities, including millimeter-wave radar and a monocular camera, to detect vehicles and pedestrians. It features the Dual Sensor Brake Support II for collision mitigation, adaptive cruise control with full-speed tracking, lane keeping assist, and lane departure prevention. Additional features include active cornering support, a blind spot monitor, and a 7-inch color meter display, a first for Suzuki in Japan.

The major facelift for the 8-year-old Suzuki baby crossover, the XBEE, may have sacrificed some of its fun-to-drive charms in the name of fuel efficiency, but in the end, it never lost its common sense as a user-friendly compact crossover that deserves to be driven daily.

My GT7 Log: AGENT H VS. AGENT H

Come weekdays, both the Honda Civic Type R and the Hyundai Avante N showcase their "everyday hero" potential, but come race weekends, their true colors as TCR competitors will shine. Here in Gran Turismo 7, I got to sample the two Asian turbocharged everyday heroes that became staples for their TCR alter egos.

Civic v Avante

How do these two Asian turbocharged everyday heroes differ from each other? Let's begin with the Korean super saloon first, before the Japanese super hot hatch.

Launched in 2021, the Hyundai Avante N is the first N saloon based on the Hyundai Avante/Elantra CN7. Powering the Avante N is the same 2.0L Turbo GDI engine from the Veloster N, producing 280PS of power while mated to either a 6-speed MT or an 8-speed wet-type Dual Clutch Transmission. With N Grin Shift, the car gets a 10PS boost, sprinting from 0-100kph in 5.3 seconds and an electronically-governed top speed of 250kph.

By calling the Avante N the road-legal version of its TCR machine, it has been festooned with numerous dynamic upgrades underneath, such as the N Corner Carving Differential, integrated drive axle, electronically controlled suspension, R-MPDS, rear stiff bar, and large capacity high-performance brakes.

In 2023, the Avante N received a minor change, featuring the same sharp looks as the normal Avante CN7 while maintaining the familiar specs from the pre-facelift model. A year later, a special TCR Edition of the Avante N was unveiled, complete with the same rear spoiler from its TCR equivalent.

Civic v Avante

Now, let's talk more about Honda's Super Hot Hatch, the FL5 Civic Type R.

Based on the 11th-generation Honda Civic hatchback, the FL5 Civic Type R eschews the obvious styling from its predecessor in favor of a more subtle approach while retaining the triple exhaust setup from the FK8. For the first time since the FD2, the FL5 Civic Type R is back to being a Japan-made hot hatchback.

It runs on the same K20C1 2.0L VTEC Turbo engine as the previous FK8, but it's been boosted to produce 330PS of power and 420Nm of torque while mated exclusively to a 6-speed MT.

With the improved suspension setup, electronically controlled dampers, improved braking performance, and new Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires built exclusively for this car, it smashed the Suzuka Circuit's FF lap record in 2:23.120 and recently, the Nurburgring Nordschleife's FF lap record in 7:44.881.

The FL5 Civic Type R became the 2022-2023 Japan Performance Car of the Year winner.

Recently, in 2025, a special Racing Black Package was offered for the FL5 Civic Type R, featuring a black interior.

Hyundai Avante N

To see which H-logoed car is the best, I went to Watkins Glen to have these two H-logoed turbocharged cars settle the score. Will it be the one with the H in the square or the other one with the H in the circle? It's Japan vs South Korea again. Let's roll the tape.

And here are the results...

FL5 Type R - 2m13.481s

Elantra N - 2m17.417s

Looks like the Japanese Agent H beats the Korean Agent H in the end. The Civic Type R has beaten its arch-rival, the Hyundai Avante N, by a huge margin. Looks like the Koreans aren't pleased about getting their behinds karate-chopped by the Japanese.

Civic v Avante

Both the Honda Civic Type R and the Hyundai Avante N worked well as everyday heroes. On weekdays, they are too busy to drive to work. On weekends, however, they became TCR superheroes ripping through the world's challenging racetracks.

TCR or not, both of these Asian turbocharged everyday heroes never fail to impress their followers, but in the end, it's the Civic that grabs more than the Avante.

Case closed.
